Randy Rhoads/Ozzy News Years Evil Concert Posted Online
The Metal Den reveals one of the last known Randy Rhoads performances with OZZY ever captured on audio.

Late great Ozzy/Quiet Riot guitarist Randy Rhoads played what would be his final show on Thursday, March 18, 1982 at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum in Knoxville, Tennessee. There is no known recording of this event to exist. The last known recording of Rhoads to surface is believed to be the El Paso, Texas (County Coliseum) show that took place on February 23rd, 1982.

However, on December 31, 1981 – less than three months away from his tragic plane wreck, Rhoads suited up for the infamous 'New Years Evil' performance – which was just the second show of the Diary of a Madman U.S. 81/82 first leg, which would later serve as a historical moment in Rock N Roll. - check it out here

The Mars Volta's Omar Rodriguez Lopez Announce North American Film Premiere
The Mars Volta star Omar Rodriguez Lopez makes his North American directorial debut in April when his feature film, The Sentimental Engine Slayer premieres at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival . The film, which was written and directed by Rodriguez Lopez, will have four screenings during the festival. Please see complete time and venue details below.

While The Sentimental Engine Slayer is not his first venture as a director -- he also created two unreleased films, 2001's A Manual Dexterity and 2003's Letters from Dystopia -- it is his first feature released to the public. Made on a relatively small budget using money borrowed from a close friend and Rodriguez Lopez's parents, the cast and crew worked diligently on location in El Paso, TX to bring the project to fruition.

The Sentimental Engine Slayer tells the tale of the overdue coming of age of a 20-something misfit named Barlam. Set against the backdrop of drug-addled suburban El Paso sometime in the not-too-distant future, Barlam's awkward transition from boy to man is as much the story of struggling to find one's essence in a world of stereotypes as it is an indictment of the distorted reality of family life in the disengaged 21st Century. - more on this story

John Oates' Drug Addled J-Stache Vs Super Mario
J-Stache, the drunken, drugged, and just generally incoherent mustache of John Oates, has just released his first iPhone game: Run, J-Stache Run! In this physics-based puzzler, you help guide J-Stache out of rehab to reunite him with his boy Oatesie.

To drum up support for the game, J-Stache did what he does best – ride the coattails of somebody more famous to grab a few headlines. Here is that announcement: In his latest attempt to cash in on the fame of others, J-Stache, the talking, drug-addled, supposedly crime-fighting mustache of John Oates, recently attempted to gain notoriety in the media for a stunt lawsuit against Nintendo visionary and Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto. The suit was intended to raise J-Stache's profile around the release of his new iPhone and iPod Touch game, "Run J-Stache Run."

Unsurprisingly, the lawsuit was a complete fraud and was, in fact, never actually filed, nor did any infringement take ever place. J-Stache released an announcement apologizing, saying "nobody got the joke. I was totally joking guys, you know? Don't sue me for anything. We're cool, right?" - more on this story

Pearl Aday Hitting The Road
Pearl Aday has just announced her first headline tour, kicking off Saturday April 17th in Las Vegas. For fans that have never seen Pearl live, get ready for some straight up, kick ass, pure and true rock n' roll. Pearl says, " I just let the music take me wherever feels right. I've fallen down, peed my pants…I don't care. As long as I can connect with the audience, I've done what I came to do. I'll break myself open to get there. I have a lot to tell, and a hell of a lot to give."

Her debut album, Little Immaculate White Fox is an epic blend of hard rock, blues and soul, connected by Pearl's distinct and empowering vocals. Produced by Joe Barresi (QOTSA, Tool, Jane's Addiction) the album features Anthrax guitarist (and fiancιe of Pearl) Scott Ian, Jerry Cantrell, Ted Nugent and Mother Superior – the touring band for Daniel.

As the daughter of rock legend Meat Loaf, Pearl lived and breathed rock n' roll since the day she was born. Music was everywhere - whether it was in a recording studio (where she could be found napping in a guitar case) or a place where her dad was performing in front of thousands of people, Pearl lived it. Her foray into the music biz began singing back up on tour for Meat Loaf and Motley Crue. You can also hear her unmistakable pipes on Ace Frehley's 'Genghis Khan.' - more on this story

By Blood Alone Announce Mini Tour
By Blood Alone will be playing select dates on the east coast this April. Though critics praise the band, who hail from Portland Maine, for their complex-but-seamless song writing, determination to dodge stylistic cliches and all-around gothic grandeur, that's not what makes By Blood Alone unique. The key element that sets this band apart is its approach and attitude. One never feels as though By Blood Alone are truly content with the body of their work, but always reaching into the murky darkness before them for what mystery lies ahead. You'll not see a head-banging, raucous crowd at stage-front of a By Blood Alone show: instead, you'll find a captivated audience unmoving and silent – locked into the moment. "If you're new to By Blood Alone, you'll get 45 minutes of breathtakingly dark progressive rock, unlike anything you've heard before. If you HAVE seen us previously, you know to expect the unexpected," says guitarist John Graveside. "For some reason when we are onstage people really study our music. They watch very quietly and only make a sound when they cheer at the end of songs. It's sort of like a classical concert or a scene from 'Monterrey Pop', and after 5 years in the band still a tad unnerving."

"Everyone in the band is clearly an accomplished musician in their own right and demonstrates imagination and creativity, but the rhythm section possesses two qualities which are rare to find at the same time in a metal band; precision and finesse. With the powerfully tasteful guitar compositions of John Graveside and the powerful, emotive vocals of Cruella it would seem that By Blood Alone have everything in place for launching a very successful career." - Komodo Rock - more on this story

Dearly Beloved Announce US Release
Rounder Records is pleased to announce the U.S. debut release of Canadian rock outfit Dearly Beloved's Make It Bleed on March 30, 2010. Make It Bleed, the band's third album, speaks for itself in short, sharp bursts: with succinct verses and economical riffs. All of the tracks were recorded at the band's home studio, Phoebe St.

Dearly Beloved began in 2006 when Rob Higgins, songwriter-musician-producer-radio host, and a couple of like-minded friends, pooled their talents. Originally an outlet for the negative energy stemming from his father's passing, the music really started to blossom once Higgins began collaborating among others with deep roots in the Toronto rock community.

Higgins recalls, "I didn't just want to be in a band - the mission was to create something authentic. It wasn't built for commercial avenues or to take over the world, just to be an honest extension of life. Musically, sonically, we were looking to create something that could last beyond the first listen."

Singled Out: Katie Kerkhover
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Katie Kerkhover tells us about "Habit " from her album "Blister". We now turn it over to Katie for the story:

"Habit," like most of the songs on the "Blister" record originated from a work tape. Any time I have a riff idea or possible chorus or verse idea they get logged into Garage Band as a work tape. From there, Tim Craven (my producer, co-writer and band mate) and I pull ideas together, mull them over, and reshape them into songs. "Habit" actually was the combination of two ideas we found in my work tapes that, with some subtle manipulation, came together to create the opening riff sequence and the chorus.

Creating the song from the work tape idea is the process that is the most collaborative. After we pick the ideas we want to explore, Tim and I sit down with two acoustic guitars and flesh out the ideas into a song form. In this case, the chorus ideas lead to a verse chord progression and then to the bridge. The intro riff was set aside until much later. The songwriting process for us is not always a linear progression through the song, from the intro to the end. We often find ourselves starting in the middle of the song and working our way out.

After we created what we felt like was a solid verse idea and chorus idea, we began to discuss content. Tim and I both had been struggling with the sever addictions of close friends and family, as well as, had recently read a couple of books on the topic and thought it would be a great subject to explore in a song. We recorded a quick, acoustic guitar track of the verse and chorus idea into Garage Band and just let it loop over and over again as we formulated the lyrics. The first draft of the song was heavy on the drug addiction idea, with lots of heroin and alcohol references, but with further discussion and exploration we began to write with a broader stroke and used less specific lyrics to include what we felt like were addiction that are equally as hard to curb, but maybe be less easily discussed. What I feel we created is a song that, lyrically, can be interpreted in a several different ways.

With the song now complete, we were ready to head into the studio where we spent the next couple of days creating the basic track to "Habit." The track started with the creation of several drum loops, which would actually make it to the final mix. Then I record a scratch guitar and vocal over this track, which was used for tacking drums, bass, and final guitars.

I'm really happy with the way this song finished. After several weeks of recording guitar and vocal parts, along and rearranging song elements to better shape the song, I feel like we ended up with one of the strongest track on the records. I also feel like, with this song, we really refined our approach to writing, and learned a lot about the song creation process; which was that, it's not always a neat and organized process. It can be messy and scattered, coming from small snippets of half formulated ideas.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
