Singers Strangely Make Top Guitarists List
Technology will never really replace a brain. Case in point: PeekYou's new "Top Guitarists" list which seeks to tell us which guitarists have the biggest digital footprint.

Unfortunately, their crack software failed to distinguish the difference between vocalists and guitarists as they put Red Hot Chili Peppers' lead singer Anthony Kiedis at the top of their "guitarists" list. Oops, Alice Cooper also strangely ended up on this list.

PeekYou's Top 10 "Guitarists" 1) Anthony Kiedis – Red Hot Chili Peppers 2) Jerry Cantrell – Alice in Chains 3) Willie Nelson – Legendary 4) Daron Malakian – System of a Down 5) Alice Cooper 6) James Hetfield – Metallica 7) Kirk Hammett – Metallica 8) Rivers Cuomo – Weezer 9) Lee Ranaldo – Sonic Youth 10) Kyle Gass – Tenacious D and Trainwreck -

The Walkmen are hitting the road for a nationwide tour in support of their forthcoming album, Lisbon, which will hit stores on September 14.

Lisbon was recorded over a two-year period in warehouses on Girard Ave in Philadelphia, and on the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn. A few songs that helped establish the record's tone were written during several inspiring and successful trips to Lisbon, Portugal.

You & Me engineer Chris Zane (Passion Pit, Les Savy Fav, Tokyo Police Club) worked with the band from August to February, and then in March of 2010 the band traveled to south Dallas to finish the album with John Congleton (St. Vincent, Explosions in the Sky). - more on this story

Singled Out: Pierce The Veil's Caraphernelia
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Pierce The Veil frontman Vic Fuentes tells us about "Caraphernelia" from their brand new album "Selfish Machines". We now turn it over to Vic for the story:

"Caraphernelia" is the only song on our new album that is completely about one person in particular. The other tunes are kind of a mix of a bunch of things, but this one is specifically about my ex-girlfriend. The last time we hung out she ended up leaving all of her random things around my house. I kept finding little travel shampoos, her razor in the shower, pieces of clothing, all kinds of random paraphernalia. Her name was Cara, and the rest is history, haha!

I actually had a talk with her before I officially titled the song and sent her the lyrics. It was very awkward and difficult for me to talk about it to her, but thank God she was actually very flattered by the whole thing and didn't think I was crazy. The lyrics are about all those thoughts that you have in the back of your mind, but never bring yourself to say out loud. I made it very clear to her that I didn't want her to take the song literally so that she wouldn't think I was insane. The thoughts and feelings behind the song were 100% real and accurate though. Sometimes when you are away from the person you left behind, you start to wonder why you ever left at all.

Musically, this is one of my favorite songs on the record. My good friend Dave Yaden brought the song to a new level with all his piano and organ work he did. We also brought on board another friend of mine named Jeremy Mckinnon from the band A Day To Remember to do a guest vocal on the chorus and bridge. I had this super heavy scream part written that I knew I couldn't do any justice, so I asked Jeremy if he'd be down to handle it. From the moment I wrote the part I knew that I wanted Jeremy to do it, because his voice would fit so perfectly in the song. If he had refused I would have probably scrapped the song. I'm so happy it all worked out.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

Devin Townsend Announces Solo Tour
Devin Townsend has toured many many times but never as a solo artist. That is about to change as he has announced his very own headlining tour.

This will be a special evening exploring a 15 year musical journey with Townsend performing songs spanning his entire vast catalog. Supporting acts will be announced soon along with East Coast shows.

Addicted was released in Nov. 2009 and has become his fastest selling solo record in his career. Townsend is currently working on two new albums for 2011. Townsend further states: "Sitting here at the airport after months of preparation for the European festivals, getting this material ready to be heard the way it's meant to be heard has been a pretty mean task. Last night's epic rehearsal was one of those moments when you realize the work put into making it right results in an awesome sound. I have been given the opportunity now to bring this music to North America in my first ever solo headlining tour. It's not a huge tour, but I really would appreciate seeing some of the familiar faces and hopefully some new ones as well. It's cheesy to announce your touring plans as 'the biggest or best' of anything, but I love this music, we've worked really hard to get it right. If you're one of the folks that dig it, then this should be a great, heavy and fun time that sounds the way it should.

The Black Angels Set New Album Release
The Black Angels will release their new album, Phosphene Dream, on September 14th in the US and September 13th in the UK.

While past albums Passover and Directions to See a Ghost were recorded in the band's hometown of Austin, Texas, the process by which Phosphene Dream was created pulled the band out of their comfort zone and forced them to look at songwriting and recording in a way they never had before.

Years of non-stop worldwide touring have turned The Black Angels into a tightly wound unit, and those years of work are all on showcase here. The band plans to celebrate the release with more years of touring, starting at the end of August where the band will be playing the Reading and Leeds festivals in the UK, Rock en Seine in Paris, and the highly coveted Jim Jarmusch curated stage at ATP in NYC. An announcement of their full fall touring plans will be coming shortly. - more on this story

Make Do And Mend Hit The Studio
Last week Make Do And Mend (MDAM) began studio work on their full-length debut, which will be released later this year via Paper + Plastick Records, in conjunction with the band's long-standing label, Panic Records.

With plans to be locked away until July 6th, the quartet will split time with co-producers Nick Bellmore (Hatebreed, Kingdom of Sorrow, Death Threat) at Dexter's Lab in Milford, CT and Jason Maas (Bane, Verse, Title Fight) at Getaway Group studio in Wakefield, MA.

With nearly a dozen songs ready to record that range in subject matter from isolation, to the trials and tribulations of playing in a touring band, vocalist/guitarist James Carroll confides "the sound is definitely more mature than anything from our previous EPs, but overall it definitely a MDAM record; very driving, heavy and filled with a lot of emotion." - more on this story
