Bret Michaels Pot Bus Bust
Bret Michaels is used to gaining headlines these days, but we can bet that the last one he would want to see is that police found drugs one of his tour buses. Michaels tour buses were pulled over on Wednesday night in DeKalb County, Indiana and the police found marijuana and unidentified controlled substances while searching the vehicles.

SleazeRoxx reports: "According to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies pulled over two tour buses near the 137 mile marker on Interstate 69 near the Ashley exit.

"After getting license and registration information from the drivers, trained Narcotics Detection K9s found marijuana on both of the buses, as well as a quantity of Schedule II controlled substances on the first bus. Deputies then learned Bret Michaels was onboard the second bus during the traffic stop. Charges will be forwarded to the DeKalb County Prosecutor's Office for review." more

The Toronto Sun reports that Michaels' publicist says, "No arrests were made. Mr. Michaels allowed an open search of the buses and everything was handled in a professional manner." - Read their report here

Bill Ward Addresses Black Sabbath Reunion Rumors
Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward has gone on the record about the rumors that the members of Black Sabbath may be plotting a reunion with Ozzy Osbourne following the death of Ronnie James Dio.

When Sonic Express asked Ward about the rumors of a Sabbath reunion, he responded, "The only thing I know, and I have talked with Tony.... well, the only person I haven't spoken with is Geezer, but that is because he prefers e-mail to the telephone, and Ozzy (Osbourne) called me yesterday. I think the statements have been made into a little bit of a cake. I saw the statements only last night online, when I got home from the studio. Where Ozzy's at, with wanting to tour with Black Sabbath is that Ozzy has been in his place for a long time and says, 'I'm never going to say never'. I have the same attitude. My quotes would be, 'I never want to say never, I'm in the same place'. Tony has a completely open mind to the possibility of touring with Sabbath again.

"I think what's happening is that some people have hooked into that and written a story out of it. I think realistically, right now, I can't see where it would be a possibility, with Ozzy on tour for the next 18 months and having a new record out that's great. I've got a new record, and I know that Tony has other things he wants to do musically, and Geezer also. We might all agree to it, but when it would happen, I just don't know. Other than those few comments, I just don't know about a Sabbath tour anywhere near in the future. Tony has already stated that he doesn't want to talk about it until he finishes that concert for Ronnie in London. It would be great, but I don't know where any of it sits right now. It's like the press has gotten it and is kindling the fire before anything has been said. I talk to Ozzy all the time, and he hasn't mentioned sh*t to me about Sabbath." - Read the full interview here

Creed Take A Stand Against Greed
Dawn Marie caught up with Creed's Mark Tremoni as the band prepare to kick off their 20-10 tour next week. The conversation covered a lot of ground, including what Mark feels is the biggest misconception about Creed. Normally, his response would be a headline but later in the interview he shattered another misconception that all mega-platinum bands are all greedy. While that's true of most, Mark definitely sets the record straight where Creed stands. Here are a few excerpts from Dawn Marie's interview:

antiMusic What was the thought process behind offering tickets for $10 and $20 on your latest tour? - Tremonti: The economy is the reason. Everybody I know has been really affected and hurt by it. you see all these ticket prices going for $100 nowadays and nobody's taking into account that people can't afford that and tours are getting canceled left and right. We just wanted to strip down our show and just play the songs that people really want to hear. Anybody can afford a ten dollar ticket. We just wanted to give something back to our fans that have been there since day one. We realize that not everybody can afford to spend a bunch of money these days.

antiMusic: Do you think this is the way other bands will be going to show their unhappiness about ticket pricing and add-on fees? - Tremonti: I hope so. People have gotten ridiculous with all their fees and bands with their ticket prices. Its one thing if you are going to go see U2 and they are putting on the biggest spectacle you've ever seen in your life. But with us we don't have to blow things up all night and put on a spectacle. We just play our songs. I'm sure that a lot of other bands could do the same thing just to let people see their favorite bands. Fans just want to see you in person and see you play your music. It's a simple as that.

antiMusic: What is your feeling about bit torrent sites that allow for free downloading of your music? - Tremonti: I definitely don't think that people should steal music from other folks. But I do think a $20 a CD is ridiculous. I think with the internet people should pay something reasonable-- a dollar a song sounds reasonable to me. If people aren't willing to pay that then they shouldn't be willing to steal something. People have to make a living. I think people don't have any sympathy for a guy in a rock band. No one feels sorry for a guy out there living the dream so they feel like they're not suffering. But there are a lot of bands that are going under; you just can't stay a float anymore. Pretty soon I think record labels will be dinosaurs. Who knows what the future will hold.

Warrant Disown Jani Lane... Again
The current members of Warrant are not very pleased with how the tabloids are handling coverage of their former singer Jani Lane's recent DUI arrest. The band issued the following statement on their Myspace blog:

"Warrant was founded on the notion that any press is good press, and for that, we would like to thank AOL, Perez Hilton and [removed] for their continued front page cover stories regarding Jani Lane. When you run your next update, please note that he is NOT the singer in Warrant. With the exception of a failed 11 show reunion in 2008, he has not been affiliated with Warrant in over seven years.

To all of the promoters and ticket holders for our upcoming shows, please know that Robert Mason (ex-Lynch Mob) 'the' lead singer of Warrant, along with original band members Joey Allen, Jerry Dixon, Steven Sweet and Erik Turner, will not be in jail and are ready to rock and roll as scheduled. If you (the press) are going to run these stories, please spell our names correctly and get the facts straight. Also, please mention our web site, Warrantrocks.com, as we can always use some extra web traffic. Thanks for the free support.

P.S. We do wish Lane all the best in his on-going efforts." -

Steven Adler To Premiere New Song On Howard Stern Show
Wanna hear the new Adler's Appetite song? Former Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler will appear on the Howard Stern show next Tuesday, July 27th to discuss his new book 'My Appetite For Destruction' which hits stores that day, as well as premiering the new Adler's Appetite track "Alive" which will be available as an exclusive download to anyone who purchases the book.

Here is part of the announcement, with more details about the book: Guns N' Roses is one of the undisputed greatest rock bands of all time. They single-handedly put an end to the glam rock hair band craze of the 80's by reestablishing the true blues roots of rock and roll. Steven Adler is Guns N' Roses' infamous original drummer and co-founder. But Steven's self-destructive obsession with drug use led to Axl Rose firing him from the band in 1990.

In My Appetite For Destruction (It Books, Hardcover, July 27, 2010, $25.99; 9780061917110) Adler tells all, fearlessly addressing his struggles with heroin and crack addiction; his financial ruin after being kicked out of GNR; his shattered marriage; and the severe health problems that nearly claimed his life on several occasions. - more on this story

Sex, Drugs and Bon Jovi
Steven Adler's new autobiography apparently isn't the only rock tell-all that will be released next week. We received an announcement that Bon Jovi's former tour manager Richard Bozzett will release Sex, Drugs and Bon Jovi on July 26th. Here is the info that we were sent about the release:

Bon Jovi has sold more than 130 million records worldwide and performed in front of more than 34 million fans but little is known about how Bon Jovi rose to superstardom as he doesn't often talk about the early years.

For the first time, take an all-access backstage ride into the early years (1983-89) through tour manager Richard Bozzett's eyes in Sex, Drugs and Bon Jovi. This book visually takes you from the group's first performances in front of a few hundred fans through being an opening act to touring on their own and becoming Rock Legends.

Aerosmith Tour Will Kick Off Tonight, Despite Joe Perry's Accident
Aerosmith fans you can now exhale, the band has sent out official word that the show will go on despite Joe Perry's recent motorcycle accident: No wind, no rain, no motorcycle mishaps can stop Aerosmith's "Cocked, Locked and Ready to Rock Tour" which begins their spectacular 18-city Live Nation produced US Summer Tour starting today, Friday, July 23rd at Oakland's Oracle Arena.

Aerosmith, America's Number One rock and roll band, has just finished a run of phenomenally successful dates in Europe and South America but all agree that playing for their American fans is the ultimate. Clearly the Aerosmith army couldn't agree more. The band is scheduled to play their hometown along with the J. Geils Band at a sold out Fenway Park show on August 14th.

"After last summer, we've been looking forward to getting back out there with a vengeance. I can't wait to feel the roar of the American audiences again and give this summer what it needs – a double dose of Aerosmith!" commented Steven Tyler.

Aerosmith's Joe Perry had a motorcycle mishap last week but stated, "Just like the name of the tour, I am 'Cocked, Locked and Ready to Rock.' It was a close call. My bike is smashed but I am ok from head to toe. I want to thank all of the fans for their emails and support." - more on this story

Abigail Williams Set New Album Release
Abigail Williams new album has a title and release date, here is announcement from their label: Candlelight Records confirms September 28 as the North American release date for In the Absence of Light, the second full-length album from black metallers.

Recorded at Conquistador Studios in Cleveland, Ohio, the album was mixed by Peter Tagtgren (Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Celtic Frost) and features artwork by Farron Kerzner (Nachtmystium, Lightning Swords of Death).

In The Absence of Light is true to the rules of black metal. The vocals are harsh and shrill, sounding like the product of a lacerated larynx. Guitars buzz, rip and roar alongside articulate, rapid licks and blazing solos. Drums slam and crash like exploding mortar shells, whether battering with blast beats, double-bass rolls or syncopated snare hits. And there is just the right amount of haunting keyboard washes, a noted difference to the band's previous album In The Shadow of a Thousand Suns. Vocalist/guitarist Sorceron notes, "There is a lot less keyboards on the new songs. I like keyboards, but before we started this record we decided to get rid of a lot of them because we wanted to do something different." - more on this story

Opeth Boxsets Announced
Roadrunner has some good news for Opeth fans- they are releasing a new live collection in three very special configurations. Here is what had to say: As part of the ongoing celebration of their 20th anniversary, Opeth is releasing live footage and audio from the band's recent performance at London's famed Royal Albert Hall. In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, due out 9/21/10, is a fierce testament to Opeth's continued success in the progressive metal community.

Twenty years and nine records into their legendary career, Opeth's "progressively creative spirit" (ARTISTdirect) remains unwavering, propelling the band through the "Evolution XX: An Opeth Anthology" tour, which brought the Swedish titans to six of the world's most unique venues, and now, with the release of In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, into the homes of their fans.

The performance at the Royal Albert Hall (recorded on the 5th of April, 2010) includes two sets, the first consisting of the band performing 2000's now-classic, breakthrough epic, Blackwater Park in its entirety, and the second, a chronologically arranged selection of material from the rest of Opeth's extensive catalogue, totaling almost three hours of music. It is, like the rest of Opeth's greatest work, "purposefully warped in all the right places" (Decibel). The front cover artwork concept pays tribute to Deep Purple´s Concerto for Group and Orchestra, underlining the band's longstanding love for their prog-rock roots. - more on this story

Good Charlotte Plan Rocktober Album Release
Capitol Records sent over word on Thursday that they have inked Good Charlotte and will release the band's new album in October. Here is the official word: Good Charlotte are proud to announce that they have signed to and will be releasing their highly anticipated fifth full-length album Cardiology on October 26, 2010, almost exactly 10 years after their self-titled debut put them on the map as one of the most exciting bands of the decade.

Originally formed as a pop-punk band in Waldorf, Maryland, in 1996, Good Charlotte—vocalist Joel Madden, guitarist Benji Madden, guitarist Billy Martin, bassist Paul Thomas and the latest edition, drummer Dean Butterworth—have sold over 10 million records to date and penned countless mainstream radio hits such as "The Anthem," "Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous" and "Hold On."

However more importantly the band have constantly reinvented themselves and refused to limit their potential, whether that means supporting Justin Timberlake on his FutureSex/LoveShow tour or collaborating with Avenged Sevenfold's M. Shadows and Synyster Gates on their hit single "The River" from Good Charlotte's 2007 full-length Good Morning Revival. That adventurous musical persona continues with Cardiology, an album that features everything from the dance floor-friendly first single "Like It's Her Birthday" to future GC anthems such as "Silver Screen Romance," while still effortlessly retaining the band's signature sound in the process. While in some ways Cardiology is a return to form for these multiple Warped Tour headliners, it also manages to work in elements from throughout the band's classic catalog to create an album that simultaneously summarizes what Good Charlotte are all about and hints at where they are headed in the future.

Singled Out: Transmit Now's Let's Go Out Tonight
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Transmit Now frontman Andy Brooks tells us about "Let's Go Out Tonight" from their brand new album "Downtown Merry-Go-Round". We now turn it over to Andy for the story:

"Let's Go Out Tonight" is a song I think really helped give our band direction at a time when we were essentially "directionless" and nearly "bandless" to be quite honest. We had been searching for a direction we wanted to take our sound and in the process lost a few members along the way.

It had come to a point when all the remained of our band was our drummer Greg, our guitar player Kevin and Me. We were locked down in our practice space and basically asked ourselves "What are we doing? and what the hell are we trying to achieve here?" "Let's Go Out Tonight" answered that question for us…

I'd been listening to the Bloc Party album "Silent Alarm" on repeat and really loved the dance feel it had. So I sat down with my acoustic guitar in an attempt to write something that had that vibe to it and literally let my fingers do what they wanted to do… what my fingers did was play the opening riff to "Let's Go Out Tonight". Needless to say, I think I failed in my initial quest to write something that had that same Bloc Party vibe BUT what ended up coming out helped to shape the direction of Transmit Now. The opening chord progression and lead riff soon followed, so at that point I felt there was a structure enough to bring the idea to rehearsal.

Something however was still missing and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. After about thirty minutes or so of jamming on the initial ideas, Greg, our drummer, seemingly out of nowhere played a beat that would eventually become the foundation for the pre-chorus…Boom Boom, tap, Boom Boom, Boom Boom (in drummer lingo if you will) and the song was instantly alive!

Spontaneity was the name of the game on this tune, so we just went for it! When it came time to lay down a vocal melody for the chorus, I just stepped up to the microphone, guitar in hand, trying not to screw up the chord progression and sang the words "So let's go out tonight", that was it…"Let's Go Out Tonight" was born into this world!

All of us have a lot of love in our hearts for that song, not just because we're proud of it as a piece of music, but because it really did help our band move forward. It pulled us up by our figurative boot straps and answered the questions "What are we doing? and what the hell are we trying to achieve here?"

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

The Dears To Preview New Album in Full at Special Shows
The Dears will give fans a special preview of their forthcoming album when they play a series of residencies where they will play the new album in full.

The eight residency shows - three consecutive nights in Toronto and Montreal and two in Brooklyn (tour dates below) - will recapture the essence of the band's immensely successful string of shows in Mexico City this past May.

The Dears will be donating proceeds from every merch sale at these residencies to Montreal City Mission and War Child. "Some of the items are rare, might be the wrong size, while some things are out of print and may be sold at ridiculous prices. But this is not just about raising money. People hurt everywhere, all the time, and in so many ways. Essentially, this is what we sing about and sometimes singing just ain't enough. By taking some of this stuff off our hands, hopefully folks will remember who they're helping and why," says the band of the endeavor. - more on this story

Guster Announce New Album and Free Song Download
Guster will release their first studio album in four years on October 5, when 'Easy Wonderful,' hits stores via Aware/Universal Republic. Here is what the label has to say about the release (and also how you can get a free song download!):

Recorded in New York and Nashville, 'Easy Wonderful' features twelve new original songs by the group - Ryan Miller (guitar/vocals), Adam Gardner (guitar/vocals), Brian Rosenworcel (percussion), and multi-instrumentalist Joe Pisapia. Their most sophisticated and rewarding work to date, 'Easy Wonderful' is an arresting pop gem, one that's subtle but insistent, layered and complex yet immediately and undeniably catchy.

Check out a free download of the infectious anthem "Bad Bad World" on Guster's website here. 'Easy Wonderful' exudes a kind of effortless appeal that belies the intensive and exacting labor behind it. Work commenced on the album in 2008, the same year three of the band's members became first-time fathers. After recording sessions in New York hit a wall, the band relocated to Pisapia's brand new Middletree Studios in Nashville. "Physically and emotionally Joe's studio was so different," remembers Gardner. "We'd been in this basement studio in New York City, cramped in this space with no windows that we jokingly called 'The Dungeon.' Joe's place is totally the opposite--, this stunning open-concept studio that has a great vibe...There was an immense feeling of freedom the moment we left New York and started recording in Nashville." - more on this story

Three Mile Pilot Return With New Album
Three Mile Pilot will release their first new album in 13 years on September 28th. Here is the announcement: Are we really here? Is this really happening? When we say that we never thought this day would come, we REALLY mean it. The rumor of a new Three Mile Pilot album has been circulating for over a decade, further fueling the mystery and mythology that has swirled around the San Diego trio since the 1997 release of what was thought to be their swan song, the enormously influential Another Desert, Another Sea.

First, a brief history of Three Mile Pilot: Formed in the early '90s, the group released a debut album to a fair amount of acclaim, followed by Chief Assassin To The Sinister, an album that garnered the attention of Geffen Records, with whom they signed for all of one album. After enduring the major label wringer, the group released Another Desert, their most emotionally resonant and commercially successful record to date. Shortly after, bassist Zach Smith formed Pinback with Rob Crow, and singer-guitarist Pall Jenkins began a new project with Three Mile Pilot keyboardist Tobias Nathaniel. Both projects were meant to coexist with 3MP, however, both Pinback and The Black Heart Procession became unexpectedly popular. Next thing you know, it was 2009 and not a peep had been heard from 3MP in a dozen years.

That brings us to the aptly-named The Inevitable Past Is The Future Forgotten, the first Three Mile Pilot album in 13 years, and the first to be written, performed, recorded and produced entirely by the original three members in their own home studios. As such it is the most uncompromising album since their inception - it also just happens to be their most accessible. While Pinback and The Black Heart Procession were obviously influenced by 3MP in their early days, the inverse can now be heard, with many of the songs on The Inevitable Past bearing the unmistakable and inevitable stamps of Pinback and The Black Heart Procession. This circular influence is what makes the album so brilliant; instead of a proper hiatus, 3MP's progression was charted vicariously through its members' other groups. As such, The Inevitable Past makes good on the promising glimpses heard through a long but breathless wait. Yes, we are really here!

Matt Costa Announces New Album and Tour
Matt Costa has set the release of his third album, Mobile Chateau, for September 21st via Brushfire Records. A fall tour has been confirmed with dates throughout the US and Canada, dates are shown below.

The new record was recorded at Pheasant Studios in Santa Ana, CA with Costa taking the production reins for the first time. Mobile Chateau's sound is a distinct departure from Costa's previous work. Mining his longtime love for '60s psychedelic superheroes like Donovan, 13th Floor Elevators, the Zombies, the Electric Prunes, and the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, the new album is a bold step forward into the kaleidoscopic beyond. "I've always been drawn to that sound," Costa reveals. "I've been hearing songs like these in my head for my whole life and Mobile Chateau is the closest I've gotten to getting those songs out of my head and onto a record."

Costa's latest effort comes in the wake of his critically acclaimed 2006 debut, Songs We Sing, and 2008's well-received Unfamiliar Faces. His sophomore set yielded the breakout single "Mr. Pitiful," which featured prominently in the hit comedy I Love You, Man and an iPhone ad campaign, and sent him criss-crossing the globe for well over a year. There were stints with Death Cab for Cutie and Modest Mouse, as well as a high-profile tour with Oasis and Ryan Adams & the Cardinals.

Locusta Tour Hits Roadblock
Locusta had to skip the entire first week of their US tour with Argentinum Astrum due to vehicular trouble. On Thursday the band issued the following update from the road:

Said guitarist Dru Silver: "Unfortunately, due to van trouble we had to scrap the first week of our tour; we had the (dis)pleasure of breaking down in a dry county in Kentucky for three days, and with the added financial stress of automotive repairs it was next to impossible to go on as planned. Fortunately for us they were mostly regional dates, however we apologize to anyone that was planning on attending any of those shows on either band's behalf. We shall return...

"In other news, we've been immensely enjoying the natural wonders that the western frontier has to offer-- particularly Massacre Rocks/Craters of the moon in Idaho -- and have been getting along great with the folks in Argentinum... practically peas in a pod. The reception has been good so far, and we can't wait for what else this side of the country has to offer! Many thanks to those that have aided us in our journey so far."

Frontier Records 30th Anniversary
Los Angeles-based indie label Frontier Records celebrates its 30th anniversary this year with their 100th release, YES L.A., scheduled for later this year.

Owned and operated by Lisa Fancher, Frontier is instrumental in releasing classic punk, alternative country, paisley underground, goth and pop records that are considered classic 'must-haves' to critics and serious music collectors alike.

Among the first to tap into the Los Angeles punk scene, Frontier Records' initial success was releasing the classic Circle Jerks record Group Sex. This was later followed by Orange County's Adolescents' debut known as the Blue Album TSOL's Dance with Me and Christian Death's Only Theatre of Pain. However, it was the eponymous debut LP from Suicidal Tendencies that spawned the unexpected MTV smash "Institutionalized" that put Frontier on the map. If you caught the Don Johnson vehicle Miami Vice episode featuring Suicidal, you'd know the mainstream finally caught up with the underground.
