Ozzy Sabbath Reunion Not Ruled Out
Rock Radio has this report for those pondering what the future might hold for Black Sabbath: Heaven and Hell guitarist Tony Iommi regrets that he didn't make it to Ronnie James Dio's bedside before the singer died of cancer in May. Only after the band play their final show in at High Voltage in London will he think about the future – and he won't rule out a Black Sabbath reunion with Ozzy Osbourne.

Iommi tells the Sunday Mercury: "This will be the last gig as Heaven and Hell. We couldn't carry on without Ronnie – it just wouldn't be right, and none of us has the desire to do that. We wouldn't want to call ourselves Black Sabbath either.

"We'd like to do something, but in what form, and with what singer, I don't know." He says of reuniting with Ozzy, "I spoke to Ozzy after Ronnie's funeral and he said he'd give me a call when he got to England on his tour. I've not had that call yet. Ozzy and I have a complicated relationship. Would I play with him again? Who knows? It's weird with me and Ozzy. We can decide what we'd like to do after the tribute is done."

Rare Early KISS Song Posted Online
The Metal Den have posted what they believe is a never before released or circulated demo from KISS.

TMD reports: the holy grail for KISS fans, "Smoke" is, believed to be cut in and around the same time as Rock and Roll Over – which itself was released in November 11, 1976, and recorded in September '76.

The song is the Stones "Jumpin Jack Flash" meets "Mr.Speed". It's unmistakably KISS, but upon first listen, you can easily understand why they could never release this track without being sued by the Stones, for it has completely lifted the riff and vocal line of 'JJF'. What makes it even more unique, however, is that Stanley and Simmons also sing it in total Stones fashion.

Why New Led Zeppelin Group Didn't Happen
If you were wondering why the recent reunion of Led Zeppelin with a new singer didn't come off, Rock Radio has the answer: Led Zeppelin drummer Jason Bonham says the band got "as close as you could get" to touring without singer Robert Plant after their reunion show in 2007 – but they weren't going to hit the road with Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy.

Kennedy, currently touring with Slash and rumoured to be in the frame for the vacant Velvet Revolver job, was thought to have been the man chosen after Plant decided he didn't want to tour.

The project was abandoned for undisclosed reasons – but now Bonham, son of original Zep drummer John, reveals it was due to a disagreement between Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, and that Kennedy was already out of the picture by then.

Bret Michael Rumored for CBS's Rock Star
Remember rumors earlier this year that CBS would be bringing back Rock Star? The traditionally summer season show didn't show up on the air this year, but the biggest rumor was that the show would be held to pick members for a new KISS. Now you can add a new rumor to the Rock Star saga courtesy of the usual unnamed source. Bret Michaels may be involved in a new season of the show.

Where this new rumor ties into the old KISS one we don't know, but Poison were known to be big KISS fans. They did cover one of their songs and Paul Stanley appeared in an early video of theirs. That is all blind speculation and we warn that with reports based on the word of unnamed "sources" read and believe with a ton of salt. (Also please note that the KISS rumor was never confirmed).

HollywoodLife.com has spoken to a source "very close" to Bret Michaels who told them: "He's been approached by numerous networks," says thier source. "But it looks as though Rock Star could definitely be the one."

That site called it Rock Star: Supernova after the "supergroup" that was formed in the second season but quickly lived up to its name and supernova'd out of existence.

Ozzy Wants Strange Cameo In His Biopic
Ozzy Osbourne has been known to put on a dress from time to time. He was wearing one of Sharon's dresses during the infamous Alamo incident, so this story from SleazeRoxx doesn't come as too much of a surprise:

The heavy metal legend's biography 'I Am Ozzy' is being adapted for the big screen, and although he is reluctant to appear in it himself he would like have an unusual cameo.

He told Germany's FHM magazine: 'I don't really want to be in it. At least I'm hoping I won't. Although I wouldn't mind a cameo - that would be fun. I could play my mother or Lemmy from Motorhead!' - Who does Ozzy want to star in the movie?

Pete Wentz Announces New Group
Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz has officially unveiled his new group, Black Cards. He posted the following statement on the group's website:

The takeover, the break is indeed over. As you may've read about over the last week, I've got a new band called Black Cards. When FOB went on hiatus, I wasn't really sure what to do with myself. I know I wanted to keep travelling the world with my family. We had been to Jamaica recently. I spent a lot of time hanging around the beaches and I started to get inspired again by songs like "two sevens clash" and "warriors". I'd never heard any of these songs but could imagine them having an everlasting imprint, like people would dance to this stuff forever. I could feel these songs really meant something. Not just in Jamaica but globally, crossing through culture and language. I started collaborating via email with my friend Sam, who I knew from working on "As Cruel as School Children". He had been listening to a lot of old British stuff and we mashed that with the island vibe in the studio. I wanted to try a female vocalist cos I couldn't imagine trying to replace Patrick. Combine all this with my nonsense and ideas. Stuff I could never write or never had a perspective to write from in FOB.

Check out some of what we've been working on here at www.blackcardsmusic.com. I know this won't be for everyone but honestly its a chance for me to try something different. I remain Fall Out Boy's #1 fan.

The Pixies have added more concerts to their 2010 U.S. "Doolittle Tour." A second show in Nashville on September 11, a second Austin show confirmed for September 21, as well as stops in Charlotte, NC (September 9) and Asheville, NC (September 12), are now part of the "Doollittle Tour" itinerary.

The 2010 U.S. "Doolittle Tour" extends the 20th anniversary celebration of the release of the band's classic 1989 album, Doolittle, as the Pixies - Black Francis, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering - will perform the album, start-to-finish, as well as its related B-sides: "Weird at My School," "Dancing the Mantra Ray," and "Bailey's Walk," among them. Doolittle, the band's third album and the first to chart on Billboard's album charts, includes classics such as "Debaser," "Wave of Mutilation," "Here Comes Your Man," "Hey," and "Gouge Away."

An imaginative cinematic production has been created for the "Doolittle Tour." Filmmakers Judy Jacobs, Tom Winkler, Brent Felix and Melinda Tupling were brought on board to create 11 films especially for the production. The films are projected onto a massive backdrop video screen to accompany 12 of the 21 songs that comprise the show. - more on this story

John Fogerty For Baseball Hall of Fame
John Fogerty will have his baseball bat-shaped guitar added to the exhibit at the National Baseball Hall of Fame Museum following the induction ceremonies on July 25th.

This marks the first time in history that the Museum will immortalize a musician as part of the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which for more than a decade has been kicked off with the playing of the sport's unofficial anthem, Fogerty's classic song "Centerfield." But the famed bat almost didn't make it to Cooperstown.

John Fogerty comments, "That guitar means a lot to me. It's symbolizes two of my great loves, baseball and the guitar. When 'Centerfield' came out, it was after a long break and was such an important album to me on many levels. The lessons of baseball - the hits, the misses, the triumphs, and the losses - were something that I could really relate to in my life. So I got this idea to make a baseball bat guitar and of course, it had to be a Louisville Slugger. Well, there's nothing else like it in the world, and I think 'Slugger' will be happy at the Baseball Hall of Fame. " - more on this story

Emmylou Harris Plots New Album
Gibson.com caught up with Emmylou Harris to discuss a variety of topics, among them, what she has up her sleeve musically. Here is part of that exchange:

What are you doing musically at the moment? Do you have something that you are working on? I have been writing over this last year and I think I have enough material, almost enough material, between songs that I have written and songs that come my way. Sometime this month but no later than August I will put aside the whole month to start recording. I actually was able to write some songs, so that felt really good. You never know where these things come from. I find with records, they kind of become what they're going to become. They take on a power and a direction of their own. Part of making records is to honor that and not try to force it.

So putting the team together for the record, is that part of that? I'm going to work with a guy named Jay Joyce who produced one of Patty Griffin's records and that's where I met him years ago on Flaming Red. I sang on that song "Mary," which is one of my favorite songs. Then we have done a couple of one-off projects over the last couple of years and so he's going to produce the record. I'm kind of leaving how we're going to do it to him, which is probably going to be at his house and use whoever he wants to use. That's why they call them producers. - Read the full interview here

Singled Out: Shinobi Ninja's Brooklyn To Babylon
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Dave Machinist from funk rockers Shinobi Ninja tells us about "Brooklyn To Babylon" from their brand new "Video Game EP". We now turn it over to Dave for the story:

Before Shinobi Ninja started, Mike and I were in this awkward middle period between projects and were producing some of our own beats. In the winter of 2008, I was in my Grandmother's house when I made the drum pattern to Brooklyn to Babylon on my MPC. I had taken sounds from James Brown's the funky drummer and built three different sequences; an intro, verse and chorus. Clyde Stubblefield's playing inspired me to swing all the tracks in the sequences at around 20%.

It wasn't until the middle of February when Mike and I were building on some of our ideas that Mike wrote the guitar parts. We were in our home studio in Manhattan when he laid down the funky distorted 311-toned guitars to the track. At first, I didn't like what he put down but it grew on me after he laid the bass tracks. The whole production just made you smile because of the way it bounced and all the positive energy oozing out of it.

By March, we had started writing music with D.A. and were having these awesome marathon sessions where we would get hammered off blunts, sushi and sake, and have fun in the studio. The first song we did was pretty out there and had some lyric in it like "I'm bleeding jesus when I'm driving in my car"…..woah dude!!!! The next song we did, D.A. asked Mike and me if we had any other beats he could freestyle to and we put on the track. In 45 minutes, we wrote two rap verses….the only difference between the two was "ladies of the world, throw your panties on the stage tonight".

Over the next two and a half hours, D.A. freestyled the chorus Melody and we all took turns writing chorus phrases. After the chorus was finished, D.A. wrote a breakdown rap and mike put another bass track on it. It wasn't until the end of the month that we decided to re-track the song with live drums in my mom's house and BLAOW!!!! We had Brooklyn To Babylon.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

Sea Wolf Solo Acoustic Tour
Sea Wolf (Alex Brown Church) will embark on a solo acoustic tour this fall. Church, typically accompanied by a five-piece band, will scale back his performances and instead, don the stage with just a guitar and his singular voice.

Appropriately, the 30-date tour will commence in September as the leaves start to turn and Church's autumnal hymns are at their most poignant. Joining him on his solo serenade will be fellow troubadours Patrick Park and Sera Cahoone.

Coinciding with the tour, new single "Turn the Dirt Over" from Sea Wolf's acclaimed sophomore release, White Water, White Bloom (Dangerbird Records), will be pressed on 7" vinyl and made available digitally. The 7" will be backed with a remix by Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning, who radically pushes the limits of the original by injecting a steady disco beat, a flourish of keyboards, inventive percussion and extending the song nearly two and half minutes. - more on this story

December 8, 1980
Backbeat Books will publish December 8, 1980, a new book commemorating the 30th anniversary of the death of John Lennon. The book, by New York Times bestselling author Keith Elliot Greenberg, will be released in November 2010.

December 8, 1980: The Day John Lennon Died is a minute-by-minute account of that tragic day, tracking all of the events leading up to the horrible moment when Mark David Chapman calmly fired his Charter Arms .38 into the rock icon—a shocking act of violence the world is still coming to grips with.

"I've been carrying this story for 30 years," author Keith Elliot Greenberg said. "I was five years old when the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan, and the first movie I ever asked my parents to see was A Hard Day's Night. John Lennon never knew me, but I felt that I knew him, and he understood me. Mark David Chapman felt the same way. But because something misfired in his mind, he decided to take John Lennon away from all of us." - more on this story

The Eagles Flying High On Tour, Kicking Off New Leg in September
The Eagles camp is disputing a touring chart put out by Pollstar last week. Here is what we received from their camp on Friday: The concert industry trade publication Pollstar today released an incomplete and inaccurate mid-year touring chart.

The trade publication's Top North American Tours chart only includes grosses for six of the band's 28 concert dates during the reporting period of January 1- June 30, 2010. Had all the Eagles concert dates been reported, the band would have scored #2 on the mid-year chart, grossing more than $48.7 million with 440,569 tickets sold.

The Eagles 2010 tour will resume in the U.S. on September 25 and the band's Australian concerts, scheduled for December, have already sold out. -

Everest, Veil of Maya Offspring Iron Thrones Set EP Release
Iron Thrones have set the digital release of their new EP, The Wretched Sun, on July 27th. While this seems like a normal announcement, how this EP came to be isn't, read on:

Iron Thrones is getting ready to release the fruits of their very recent, very public labor. The band won The No Label Needed Contest and Series and their music career was instantly turned upside down. The resulting EP, entitled The Wretched Sun, is rich, complex and will be available for sale digitally on July 27th.

The Minneapolis-based four-piece came together from the demise of guitarist and producer Steve Henningsgard's band Everest. Vocalist, Adam Clemans (previously of Sumerian Records' Veil of Maya); Drummer, Peter Clark (whose prior band recorded with Henningsgard) and Bassist, Curtis Parker joined the remains of Everest and since the band was so renewed in sound and personnel, they changed their name to IRON THRONES prior to releasing their debut. That self-produced album, Visions Of Light, was self-released in November of 2008 as a free digital download and was re-released on Tribunal Records in early 2009. - more on this story

Hopscotch Music Festival Lineup
The Independent Weekly has announced the line-up for the Hopscotch Music Festival, which will take place in downtown Raleigh, NC on September 9 – 11. With 120 bands in 10 venues over three days, Hopscotch's schedule reflects the festival's goal of highlighting the Triangle music scene by pairing diverse, well-known national and international artists with a multitude of excellent local bands.

Raleigh psychedelic lords, Birds of Avalon, will join the visiting Akron/Family and Sleepy Sun on Thursday, Sept. 9, for instance, while renegade alt-country bands Lucero and American Aquarium play at Lincoln Theatre. Local hardcore heroes Double Negative will join Toronto's f***ed Up at Berkeley Cafe on Friday, Sept. 10, supported by the menacing Harvey Milk and one of Raleigh's best young bands, Whatever Brains. Meanwhile, Raekwon will be headlining a special show with Grammy-winning Durham producer 9th Wonder at the Lincoln Theatre.

On Saturday, Sept. 11, locals Megafaun host a seamless night of improvisation and song at Kings with songwriter Marissa Nadler, free jazz masters Jeb Bishop and Ned Rothenberg and electronic standard-bearers Keith Fullerton Whitman and Greg Davis. That same night, bands as diverse as Tortoise, Bear in Heaven, Dungen, Woods, Dex Romweber, Pontiak, Washed Out, Kylesa and Weedeater will fill eight other clubs in downtown Raleigh. - more on this story

Help Book Locusta's Summer Tour
Locusta kicked off their summer tour Saturday at the Carabar in their hometown of Columbus, OH.

The tour also features Argentinum Astrum and will run through mid August. Said Locusta guitarist Dru Silver: "Ready as ever to kick some teeth in on the road with our friends Argentinum Astrum, an unholy bastard child of black and doom, a.k.a. Knoxville's best kept metal secret. There will be tour shirts available at the merch table, along with all kinds of goodies.

"We are having trouble with a few holes in our route though, if anyone can help us on any of these days we'd definitely be willing to return the favor in either of our respective cities (i.e. show trade). House shows/parties, BBQs, bar mitzvah's, whatever; we're game. Or if there's already a show happening that we could possibly jump on we'd be willing to share equipment/set times/sell merch to forfeit door money if necessary; anything at this point. Feel free to shoot us an e-mail (locusta614@yahoo.com) if you think you may be able to help. The dates are below." - actually, they are here
