Van Halen Denial- Ozzy Not Cast- Possible Who Quadrophenia Tour- Bret Michaels Trashed- Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax Tour- Frampton Crew Injuries- Aaron Lewis- more
Here are today's quick roundup of the top rock news stories from across the web: Those unnamed sources struck two times this past week Melodic Rock claimed an inside source told them that Van Halen were half way done with a new album. Rolling Stone reached out to the band's PR spokesperson (and Eddie's wife) and got this response: "What is going around is exactly that, rumors. I don't have any updates at this time," Janie Van Halen said. Read their report here

The Metal Den claimed in a report that "Paramount Pictures and MTV Films have revealed that actor Colin Farrell will portray the role of Black Sabbath's Ozzy Osbourne in a biography film about the Prince of Darkness." However, a rep for Farrell tells Gossip Cop that this report is "not true". We're still holding out hope that Dave Matthews lands the role after nailing the part in a recent SNL skit. You can read the Gossipcop report here. We did run The Metal Den story but as with any reports that claim info from "inside sources" we are careful to not report these rumors as solid fact, thus why we said "apparently" and included a question mark in the headline. We'll try to be clearer on our end in the future.

Billboard reports that The Who are hoping to hit the road again in 2011, with "a new show," according to singer Roger Daltrey, or possibly a retooled stage presentation of the group's 1973 rock opera "Quadrophenia." Read what Roger had to say here. Note that the band's website ran part of this article but also stated: The band's management has have not confirmed or denied tour plans for 2011. Perhaps they forgot to tell Roger or vice versa?

In their review of Bret Michaels' new album, "Custom Built," AP declares: Michaels drenches this entire disc in country-fried grease that's a jarring departure from his 1980s-hair metal franchise.... But ultimately, this all sounds and feels fake, the obvious attempt of a guyliner metalhead pandering to a new demographic" Ouch, read the full review here

During a recent interview with Megadeth's frontman Dave Mustaine with 24ur.com, Mustaine revealed that Anthrax will be apart of some shows on the American Carnage Tour alongside Slayer and Megadeth. Korn Album Leak
Fans have the chance to hear Korn's new album a full week before it hits stores as the band has announced that, Korn III: Remember Who You Are, is now streaming in full online.

Korn III - Remember Who You Are, the band's 9th studio effort, marks a return to form for the modern metal powerhouse. Enlisting famed producer Ross Robinson, the man who helmed the boards on their first two albums, guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer explains the dynamic, saying, "Teaming up with Ross has brought that raw, emotional feeling back to the music.

"Ross is the only person in the world that's ever been able to draw us to that place. He reminds us why we're here, why these songs are important to our fans and why what we do as a band relates. He made us remember how our music saves lives, and he came into the picture at the perfect time. We had no record label and just wanted to make a great album. Ross stepped in at the right moment to hit the reset button."

Mustaine Equates Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth Shows With A Car Crash
While that headline is true, his meaning was actually positive. Rock Radio has the report: Dave Mustaine of Megadeth says the historic Big Four shows – which saw thrash giants Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer and his own band share a stage for the first time – felt like one big car crash to him.

And he believes the most memorable moment for the metal community at the Sonisphere festivals and cinema showing wasn't the music or the all-star jams, but the moment he and Metallica frontman James Hetfield hugged at the end.

"Standing on stage flanked by so much tremendous talent was great. It's one of those things where in the moment it doesn't seem as enormous as it really is," Mustaine says. "It's like when you survive a car crash. You don't think it's such a big deal until you watch it in slow motion. Then you're thinking, 'I can't believe I survived.' - He has a lot more to day here

Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd Unleashes The Wild Trapeze
We received some more info on the new solo album from Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd, which was released this week. Here is the announcement:

Epic Records are pleased to announce the July 6th release of Brandon's first solo album entitled, The Wild Trapeze. Fans can purchase a limited edition CD that ships with a personal letter and T-shirt featuring hand drawn artwork by Brandon at www.thewildtrapeze.com. The album is also exclusively available digitally on the iTunes Store.

"This group of songs was born of a very different process than the many my band and I have been employing for our almost two decades at work now. The Wild Trapeze began as pot induced meanderings on my dusty acoustic guitar while Incubus was off of the road, and has slowly been morphing into things that I originally could never have imagined , " says Brandon Boyd. "So much of my identity, both personally and creatively has been attached to and related to Incubus. For better or worse! And I do believe that every person in every corner of the world asks themselves at some point on their ride, 'Who am I…today?'The Wild Trapeze is an exercise in self reliance." - more on this story

Plans For Thursday
Epitaph sent over an update on Thursday which includes the news that the band are hitting the studio to begin work on a new studio album and news of a new release from Geoff Rickly's supergroup project with members of Glassjaw and Converge, plus word about what guitarist Steve Pedulla has been doing on the side. Here you go: Thursday have entered the studio to record their sixth studio album and follow-up to 2009's critically acclaimed release, Common Existence. Thursday will spend the next few months recording at Tarbox Road Studios in Fredonia, NY with Common Existence and A City by the Light Divided producer Dave Fridmann (MGMT, The Flaming Lips, Mogwai) and plan to release the new album in spring 2011.

"We've worked with Dave Fridmann before, but this is definitely the most we've ever clicked with him," says singer Geoff Rickly. "In style, this record feels like a radical departure from our earlier records but in substance it feels like a return. The songs are more vulnerable than they've been in a long time. Some of the song titles include "A Darker Forest" and "Little Sparks Against the Sun"... It's very atmospheric and mood oriented so far."

In other Thursday related news, singer Geoff Rickly recently re-activated his acclaimed side project United Nations along with members from GlassJaw and Converge to release a 7" vinyl called Nevermind The Bombings, Here's Your Six Figures via Deathwish. He will also be singing with groundbreaking punk band Ink & Dagger this summer for a benefit show, "This Is Hardcore," for the Maks & Zielanski family. More information here: . Lastly, guitarist Steve Pedulla recently scored the soundtrack to the "Malibu Film Fest: Best Feature" winning film, "Yeardley," which is now available on iTunes. -

The Devil Wears Prada Detail Zombies
We told you yesterday in the Day in Rock digest that The Devil Wears Prada will release their first-ever EP, the conceptual Zombies EP on August 24 (Ferret Music). Now we have some more information about the EP to share with you along with the latest tour dates:

"The whole thing is just completely based upon zombies," explained TDWP's front man Mike Hranica. "Last fall, I was on a real zombie kick, I read 'The Zombie Survival Guide' by Max Brooks, and I thought, 'what if we made a zombie song?' All it took was me just saying that to the band, and we had our hearts set on doing this EP."

Zombie EP is an extremely heavy record that includes songs such as "Survivor" that follows the plight of a man who loses his beloved to the undead and ultimately, in surviving the zombie plague, spends his days warding off the brain-starved and loneliness. The story continues to unfold with the tracks "Outnumbered," "Escape," "Revive," and "Anatomy." Serious TDWP fans will note that the Zombie EP song titles are straight-ahead and serious, unlike the "joke" titles that the band's full-length CDs have been known to feature - "Reptar, King of the Ozone" from 2007's Plagues, as an example. - more on this story

Singled Out: Black Water Rising's Brother Go On
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Black Water Rising tells us about "Brother Go On" from their self-titled album. [Which incidentally scored 5 star reviews from 11 of the 12 fan reviewers at Amazon... that 12th review was 4 stars.]

"Brother Go On," was written out of frustration. I was in a bad place personally with my family and music and the country was in a bad place as well. I was getting real tired of watching our government pull the wool over our eyes, watching the f***ed up world spin out of control, and sick of feeling powerless to make a difference. I was having some personal issues and I wanted to write a song about self-empowerment. I didn't want to write a typical dark depressing rock tune, I wanted to write a song of defiance with a big middle finger sticking out of it. The song gave me an outlet to speak my mind even though I really didn't expect anyone to hear it because I didn't even have a band at the time. It was therapy you might say. I started with the chorus riff which came about after envisioning things like Godzilla crushing s*** and monster trucks spitting dirt. Bad ass, skull crushing, groove oozing, single note riffage that says f*** you! The song really wrote itself and pretty much laid way for the sound that became Black Water Rising. I wanted a big chorus, an anthem that commanded attention and I think I achieved my goal. After completing the chorus I moved onto the verse which wrote itself and stayed true to the groove. I screwed around with a couple of different bridge parts for the middle and decided to keep it simple and just throw a lead in. The song is honest, short, to the point, and no frills. Pure Rock. Almost every song I had written since was inspired by the direction I took to that tune and helped to create BWR.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

Hendrix Digital Bootlegs
Rare Jimi Hendrix bootleg catalog has gone digital. Here is the announcement: Experience Hendrix LLC today announced that releases on its official 'bootleg' Dagger label are now available for digital download for the first time in the company's history.

Dagger Records was founded in 1998 by Experience Hendrix to provide fans of the legendary guitarist with exciting, never before released studio recordings, home demos, rare interviews and unforgettable live performances. Each album in the acclaimed series provides new insights into Jimi's remarkable creativity.

Experience Hendrix LLC CEO Janie Hendrix encapsulated the label's history, "With my late father's blessing, Dagger Records was devised as an avenue to fulfill the requests of the 'deep' Jimi collectors and worshipers for recordings beyond the 'core releases' such as Electric Ladyland, Are You Experienced and the recent Valleys of Neptune. Dagger material is certainly of great historical significance but might not have been recorded most optimally, a situation that mandated the establishment of a specialty imprint to ensure that consumers are treated as fairly and as honestly as possible." - more on this story
