Singled Out: Story of the Year
(antiMusic) Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Story of the Year frontman Dan Marsala tells us about "I'm Alive" the first single from their brand new album "The Constant". We now turn it over to Dan for the story:

"I'm Alive" was actually one of the last songs written for The Constant. We thought we were pretty much done writing for the record and then one day Ryan and Josh were jamming in the rehearsal space and the whole idea for the song came together in like 45 minutes. Later that day we made a quick demo and I started working on melodies and lyrics. The chorus lyrics jumped out at me right away. I was driving around in my car listening to it and I immediately started singing "I'm alive, but I'm barely breathing now."

After writing the chorus, the hardest part was figuring out what direction to take the song. I didn't finish the lyrics until about a month later while we were in the studio. I decided to write it about being buried by the weight of the world and wishing there was anything you could do to dig your way out of that feeling. A situation that I've been through many times. It's a very personal song, but I think anyone can relate to feeling that way. It ended up being everyone's favorite song on the record, so we're lucky that we had those last couple jam sessions before we decided we were done writing. That seems to be how it always works.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album, grab the presale t-shirt bonus track deal and more - right here!

Soulfly Set New Album Release
Soulfly, lead by metal deity Max Cavalera, have just completed a stint at Edge of the Earth Studios in Los Angeles, where they recorded their seventh album. Roadrunner will release album, titled Omen, on May 4. Logan Mader served as co-producer.

Omen follows up 2008's Conquer, which enjoyed incredible critical reception. Alternative Press awarded the album 4.5 out of a possible 5 stars, deeming it "a furious, sonically adventurous metal disc…awesome" while Kerrang! hailed Conquer as "packed with enough invention, aggression and sheer quality tunes to make most other metal bands blush."

In the true Soulfly style and tradition, the album will feature notable guest appearances. Dillinger Escape Plan's Greg Puciato and Prong's Tommy Victor will lend their voices to separate songs, while Max's songs, Zyon and Igor, will also appear on special B-sides, making Omen an album that is truly all in the family!

Anvil Tweak Tour To Attend Film Awards
Anvil, the Canadian heavy metal band whose "Cinderella" story, "Anvil! The Story of Anvil," is nominated for a Critics Choice Movie Award in the category of Best Documentary, will travel to Los Angeles to attend the awards presentation that will be held at the Hollywood Palladium this Friday, January 15.

The rockumentary has been named one of 2009's Best Documentaries by a slew of film critics associations across the continent, including critics in Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto, and Las Vegas, as well as the International Documentary Association, the Online Film Critics Society, and the National Society of Film Critics. It also made the Year End Top Ten lists in publications such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Newsweek, and Village Voice. The 15th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards will be broadcast January 15 live on VH1 at 9PM ET/PT.

That's the good news. The bad news is that the trip to Los Angeles means Anvil, who kicked off its "The Anvil Experience" North American tour in Cleveland, OH last week, will have to cancel its January 14 date in Baltimore, MD and the New York City date set for January 15. But, it's not all bad news as the New York date has been rescheduled to take place on Friday, March 19, still at The Gramercy Theatre, still with an 8PM show time. Tickets purchased for the 1/15 show will be honored on 3/19. - more on this story

Carole King and James Taylor Troubadour Reunion Tour
Carole King and James Taylor unveiled North American dates for the highly anticipated "Troubadour Reunion" tour today. This once-in-a-lifetime event marks a rare concert experience bringing two of the most beloved singer-songwriters on tour together - intimate and in the round - for the first time in four decades. North American dates begin on May 7 in Portland, OR, and extend through June 19 in Boston, MA.

The tour will travel to over 20 major venues and cities nationwide including Madison Square Garden in New York and a three-night stand at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Tickets for the North American leg of "Troubadour Reunion" go on sale January 23 (unless otherwise noted). King and Taylor will also perform together on The Today Show and The Late Show with David Letterman on January 20.

The idea for the tour was conceived after a series of six performances Taylor and King gave at the Troubadour in Los Angeles in 2007 to celebrate the famed venue's 50th Anniversary. The shows sold out immediately and garnered rave reviews from fans and critics alike.

Joining King and Taylor on tour will be their original bandmates guitarist Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel and bassist Lee Sklar, famous in their own right as "The Section." Also joining The Section will be: Rudy Guess, Robbie Kondor, Arnold McCuller, Kate Markowitz, Andrea Zonn.

Lemonhead Evan Dando Announces Solo Tour
Evan Dando, singer, songwriter, and guitarist of The Lemonheads, will be setting out on a solo tour in early 2010 that begins January 29 at Maxwell's in Hoboken and wraps up March 6 back in New York at Mercury Lounge. See all current dates below.

Evan will be performing an intimate set featuring songs from his solo album and plenty of classic Lemonheads tunes along with several inspired covers, including some from his most recent covers album, Varshons (06/09, The End Records).

Produced by Butthole Surfers ringleader Gibby Haynes, Varshons was inspired by mix tapes that Gibby used to send to Evan. The collection is filled with strange bedfellows - from G.G. Allin to Texas troubadour Townes Van Zandt and garage rockers The Green Fuz. The Lemonheads make each track their own, with help from actress Liv Tyler, singing back up on Leonard Cohen's "Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye," and Kate Moss, who sings over the dance groove of Arling & Cameron's "Dirty Robot," which also features lead guitar by John Perry on loan from The Only Ones.
