Velvet Revolver To Continue Singer Search Despite Solo Projects
With his new star-packed solo album coming out in April you would think that the last thing that Slash would be thinking about is filling Scott Weiland's shoes in Velvet Revolver, but while finding a VR frontman is not his first priority, the thought isn't completely out of his mind either as he looks past his upcoming solo album release and tour.

Slash spoke with RollingStone.com in an interview that was published on Monday and says that Velvet Revolver plan to resume their search for a new vocalist once he finishes touring is support his own record. "I think [bassist] Duff [McKagan] is doing something with Jane's Addiction right now so we're all sort of all over the place doing whatever until we can all regroup," he says.

He also spoke about what they are looking for in a singer and their fruitless search so far. "We did listen to a lot of singers, but there hasn't been anybody that's going to be the guy so far." And unlike Velvet Revolver's original search that landed them Scott Weiland and Aerosmith's recent short-lived singer search, don't expect the band to recruit a big name frontman this time around. "It's really hard to do something with a voice that's already really well known in an original band," Slash says. "We want someone who is really good that hasn't been recognized by the whole country as being amazing, but somebody who is just on the precipice of just being discovered." - Check out the Rolling Stone feature here

Metal Band Searched At Gunpoint At Canadian Border
Your Demise guitarist, Stu Paice just posted a story on the band's official Tumblr page about how the band was stopped at the Canadian border, searched and held at gunpoint by the police:

"As we headed our back into America from Canada, we decided to head to to Tim Hortons for the Last time before we entered the states. Shortly after leaving, everyone was full of bagels and coffee, Drifting of to sleep, our rest was interrupted by the sound of 3 Canadian Police Cars. Sirens blasting, we pulled over completely baffled as to why we where being stopped as we had done nothing wrong.

So we stopped at the side of the free-way to the sound of, 'Driver, get out of the car now', at this point we had no clue what was going on. So danny gets out and they tell him to stick his hands up and turn around, walk toward the car, we then saw a Police man stick a Gun in Danny back and drag him to the car, Handcuff him and put him the back of the Police car. so we now mental stuff was going through our heads. Next they shouted for the passenger (Pumpjack) to get out, Same thing, GUN, HANDCUFFS, CAR BONNET!. - more on this story

Cypress Hill's New Album Includes Linkin Park, System of a Down and Rage Against The Machine Members

Frank Zappa Freak Out List DVD
Sexy Intellectual and MVD Visual are proud to announce the DVD release of Frank Zappa "The Freak Out List" on April 20, 2010.

When an artist, regardless of his significance, lists his favorite musicians and performers it is usually met with little fanfare, as over time the names mentioned are almost certainly going to change. But when Frank Zappa did likewise, and actually published a record of his most important influences on the inside cover of his debut album, it became a road map to the music he was to make over the following forty years. Even in the early 1990s, when asked about his most-loved composer's, musicians and artists, he would repeat names from this, by then legendary, index.

This film explores the musical roots of Frank Zappa by putting "The Freak Out List" under the microscope and tracing the lineage from the most pivotal names therein to the recordings and performances of the man himself. - more on this story

Chimaira Drummer Offering Lessons Via Skype
Drummer Andols Herrick of Chimaira will be testing out teaching drum lessons via Skype over the next two weeks, and again after the band's upcoming tour in the U.K. with Trivium.

This is a chance for beginner-to-intermediate-level drummers all over the world to work one-on-one with Andols from wherever is convenient for you!

The lessons will be similar to the in-person ones done in Cleveland — usually split between focusing on hands and focusing on the whole kit (or just kick drum pads, if noise is a problem). As long as you have either a webcam or a built-in one on your laptop, all you have to do is download Skype and the video to video interaction doesn't cost anything. - more on this story

Blind Guitarist Joey Stuckey Receives Key To The City of His Birth
Christened the Official Ambassador of Music for Macon, Georgia (home of the "southern sound"), award winning blind guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, radio and TV personality Joey Stuckey has recently been given the key to the city of his birth Green Cove Springs, Florida.

A prestigious honor bestowed upon Stuckey by the Mayor and City Council. "It was such an honor to present a Proclamation and a 'Key to the City' to Mr. Stuckey at our February 2, 2010 Council Meeting," expressed Mayor Felecia Hampshire. "It was wonderful and delightful to have Mr. Stuckey share his love and talent for singing with us. We were favored with a wonderful rendition of the song 'Georgia'. I believe that anyone who loves blues or jazz should take the time to visit the world's best fair in my opinion, and listen to the melodious sounds of Joey Stuckey - you will not be dissapointed!" As part of the celebration of Joey receiving the key to the city, his band will be performing at the Clay County Fair in Green Cove Springs on April 6th. (www.claycountyfair.org)

"When I first heard that I was being honored by the city of my birth, I was over come with a real sense of gratitude and of accomplishment," Joey humbly admits. "It isn't often that an artist's hard work is recognized by folks outside of the immediate family and or ones peers. To know that the city where I was born was proud of me, my work in music and in inspirational speaking about over coming adversity honestly made my year! Doctors have said that the most formative years of a child's life is from around three years old to about seven years old and that the person that you will be when all grown up is set in those years. Well, I lived in Green Cove Springs from my birth until about eight years old and what I learned in those years from my parents, neighbors and the citizens of Green Cove is to never give up. As my friend Jimmy Hall of Wet Willie says in his hit song, 'keep on smiling'. I am so proud to be as the city's proclamation calls me a 'Native Son of Green Cove' and I look forward to performing for the good folks of Clay County at the Clay County Fair." - more on this story

Photographer Calls Cops on Travis Barker
A trash media photo-stalker (aka paparazzo) reportedly called the cops on Blink-182's Travis Barker after a run-in on Saturday at a Calabasas, Ca restaurant. Information about the incident is a "star said, stalker said" affair with Barker taking to his Twitter to give his side and the other side posting what Barker has labeled an "edited" video.

The tabloid reports vary, Jam! places the incident on "Sat night" and says that Barker was at the restaurant with "friends". However, Barker's account places the incident in the morning and hints that he was out to breakfast with his children when he had a run-in with a photo-stalker who threatened him. Apparently there were 3 photographers, then an hour later Barker had evened the odds by calling in reinforcements. The cops were reportedly called because Barker allegedly took away the photo-stalker's cell phone and slashed his tires, according to the Jam! report. However, while police were called to the scene for a vandalism claim, no arrests were made.

Here is what Barker had to say about the incident: "When I'm out at breakfast at 8am in the morning the last thing i appreciate is some photographer threatening me 2 a fight while he's 3 deep. When i defend myself/my kids that don't make me a tough guy .I was outnumbered and threatened so i did what any man would.

"Paparazzi cried like young girls when it was no longer 3 of them against me and my kids. Didn't they remember threatening me an hr ago?? What happened to the tough guys with the cameras? It was gonna be a fair fight..3 against 3? I mean i weigh a buck 40, your 200lbs and 6′6. - more on this story

Anne McCue Promises Raw Rockin Roots On New Album
Anne McCue describes her new album, Broken Promise Land, due out on May 18, 2010 on Flying Machine Records Records, as "a bit dirty, a bit rockin', a bit swampy and a bit bluesy, with a touch of mysteriousness to it."

What isn't mysterious is McCue's musical talent and range. She was voted the Roots Music Association's Folk Artist of the Year in 2008, performed in a Jimi Hendrix tribute at the 2007 International Guitar Festival and was included in the Four Decades of Folk Rock box set alongside the likes of Bob Dylan and Wilco. Heart's Nancy Wilson has described her as "my Aussie clone," while Americana icon Lucinda Williams had this to say: "Initially, her stunning voice hooked me in. Then I got inside the songs. The first chance I got, I went to see her perform . . . I was floored! The combination of her tomboyish beauty mixed with the precision and assertiveness with which she approached the guitar, her surrounding languid and earthy vocals created an intoxicating blend."

The new, self-produced album is one that she has long wanted to make. Combining heartfelt songwriting with gritty guitar playing, the record harkens back to McCue's breakout Roll release, although she says that the new disc's sound is even more raw than its predecessor. While earlier albums covered a range of roots-rock styles, Broken Promise Land focuses on McCue's hard-charging "cosmic biker rock" sound. - more on this story

Tesla's Dave Rude Hitting The Road With His Solo Band
The rockin' Dave Rude Band is about to embark on a Midwestern tour that kicks off Friday, March 19th at The Dawghouse in Clinton Township, Michigan.

The Dave Rude Band's unabashed, uncompromising, highly melodic hard rock sound is both unique and instantly recognizable--a modern take on the classic rock influences the band grew up on.

In 2005, Dave Rude decided to start a solo project as a singer/guitarist, but as soon as he hooked up with bassist Marco Guzman and drummer Josh Schmidt, things gelled so well that it quickly solidified into a permanent band. Some may recognize lead singer/guitarist, Dave Rude, as multi-platinum rock band Tesla's newest guitar hero. When Tesla randomly came across the Dave Rude Band myspace page, they were so impressed they offered him the job in early '06 and he is still a member today. - more on this story

Extol Spawns Mantric

The album will hit the streets on April 27th in North America and April 26th in the rest of the world. The album cover has also been unveiled.

Linfinity Hitting The Road
American Myth Recordings is excited to announce that Linfinity have confirmed their first-ever tour of North America, a 37-date run with Murder By Death that kicks off in St. Louis on the 31st of March, and winds its way from coast to coast before finishing up in Chicago in mid May. On April 27th Linfinity will release their debut full-length, Martian's Bloom.

In late 2008, Linfinity gained recognition for their Songs of The Weeping Willow EP, produced by Kevin McMahon (Titus Andronicus, The Felice Brothers).

With a full-length album in mind, Linfinity spent the next year scrapping together resources to realize their vision to its fullest. They hustled their way in and out of the studio, finishing bits and pieces at a time; re-tracking a few songs one month, then heading back the next month to record new material when they'd saved enough to return to the studio. In late 2009, upstart Brooklyn indie label American Myth Recordings took notice and stepped in to help Linfinity finish the job. Linfinity's Martian's Bloom covers an impressive sonic landscape. - more on this story

The Hoodoo Gurus Set May Album Release
The Hoodoo Gurus, known for high energy, hook-laden rock 'n' roll, have completed their ninth album, Purity of Essence, which will be released May 11, 2010 on their own label in the United States via Virtual Label/ADA.

Formed in 1981, the band is described by AllMusic.com as "(channeling) their inspiration from the vast entirety of the American pop cultural landscape, drawing on such disparate sources as B-movies, bad sitcoms, and junk food — in tandem with the usual suspects like garage rock, power pop, and surf — to create a distinctly kitschy and catchy sound. . . .and if you don't like the Hoodoo Gurus, I suspect you don't like rock & roll very much."

A jam session at a Sydney rehearsal studio earlier this year produced eight songs and set the template for their ninth studio record. All four band members were pole-axed by the lightning bolt moments that brought singer and songwriter Dave Faulkner's songs to life from his demos. - more on this story
