AC/DC Drug Bust
(Rock AAA) AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been convicted for being on possession of cannabis – and his criminal record could affect the band's future touring plans.

Rudd, real name Phillip Hugh Norman Witschke Rudzevecuis, was fined $250 and ordered to pay costs of $133 in Tauranga District Court, New Zealand, after police searched his boat in October and found 25g of the illegal substance.

Slipknot Working On New Album
(Gibson) Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison recently told Billboard.com that the band have begun work on a new studio album. It will be the band's first since the death of bassist Paul Gray in May.

"It's already in motion. It's definitely exciting. It's a little emotional, of course, but I think it's going to be really, really cool and I think it's gonna be a really, really great record because everyone's really involved in the process," he said. "It's going to be a little interesting, but I think it's gonna be a healing process for all of us. Slipknot is not going anywhere. We're a family, and losing a family member sucks. You can't help that, but you need to move on, and I think that what we're gonna do might be the most powerful thing that we've ever created."

Jordison said that the band have no plans to replace Gray with a new member. But, when the band tours, they will be bringing along a bass player. "We'll have a bass player that's right next to me, to the right behind the stage, to lock in with me," Jordison said. "But there's no one right now who will go on stage." -

Bright Eyes Final Album Set For Release
(Gibson) More than a year ago, Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst revealed to the Omaha World-Herald that he would be making one last record under the Bright Eyes name before retiring the moniker. That album appears to be The People's Key, which is due out on February 15.

The album's lineup includes Oberst, Mike Mogis (also from Monsters of Folk) and Nathaniel Walcott. The People's Key was recorded at ARC Studios in Omaha, Nebraska and will be released on Saddle Creek Records (as opposed to Merge, which has released Oberst's recent solo discs). The Bright Eyes gang will likely tour behind the album and have already announced two big shows at New York City's Radio City Music Hall and London's Royal Albert Hall.

Jason Boesel, who has drummed as part of Bright Eyes and indie favorites Rilo Kiley, provided some clues to the sound of the album on his Twitter page: "Just heard half of the new Bright Eyes record. Best sci-fi emo album of the last 20 years!!!" - more on this story

Behind the Video: April Smith and the Great Picture Show's Terrible Things
Today April Smith from April Smith and the Great Picture Show tells us the story behind the new video for "Terrible Things" from the album "Songs For A Sinking Ship." Here you go!

My song "Terrible Things" was inspired by the show Dexter. After the album came out, I had this idea for a campy, creepy video for it. I wrote a treatment and then I started looking for a director that I felt could really bring it to life. I had seen Ryan Stober's work and loved it. I reached out to him and asked him if he would be interested in shooting it. He got back to me right away and was in! Then he put together a really solid team of people that he trusted. But we knew we really needed to invest in the production value - the location, make-up, equipment. It had to look just right. So we rented this kooky old mansion in Philmont, NY and we slept there during the shoot. The place was grogeous and had the vibe we wanted. My friends and band mates were the actors and they all did such an incredible job!

My favorite part of the video is the very end when Stevens, my bassist, bites the dust. I was so impressed with his acting. I watched him shoot his scenes and Ryan was directing him and yelling "you're taking a sip of the champagne! It tastes funny...so you're sweating! Your throat is getting tight! You loosen your tie!"...and so on. I had no idea he could act like that and he totally nailed the ending!

I aso love that my dog, Scout, is in the video. She makes a really short appearance but it's perfect for the scene. It was so easy to get her to do it too. She's a Border Collie so she's incredibly smart and really well-behaved!

Now that you know the story behind this video, you can watch it for yourself - right here!

Queensryche Not Hurt in Iraq Bombing
(Rock AAA) Queensryche frontman Geoff Tate states no band members were injured during a mortar attack while the band were on a troop support visit to Iraq.

And although being victims of two assaults in the same day was a terrifying experience, reports which suggest the band were hurt are "out of proportion".

Last week RockAAA.com reported that Tate had told BraveWords.com: ""We got bombed. We had to spend a lot of hours in bunkers there, waiting for the insurgents to get under control. We all lived through it although we got injured – that was a scary situation."

But the singer has now told 99.9 KISW in Seattle the injury report is - wrong

The Strokes Scrapped New Album
(Gibson) The Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. says the New York-based band has finished recording the tracks for their new album, having discarded initial work done at the start of this year.

As reported by Rolling Stone, the tracks for the yet-to-be-titled disc, which features 10 songs, are set to be mixed soon. "I'm positive that [fans] will be as excited as we are [about the new album]," Hammond says. "We're all really excited to be stepping into the next chapter. We spent the last six months recording in my studio upstate and we are beyond thrilled with the 10 songs we have for this record."

The album, which the band produced themselves with help from engineer Gus Osberg, will be The Strokes' first full-length disc since 2006's First Impressions of Earth. Reports of dissension within the group have surfaced regularly in recent years, but Hammond describes the mood in the band these days as upbeat. -

Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughan TV Special
(conqueroo) PBS has announced that the Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughan In Session program will air as a special on its stations throughout the month of December (check local listings). Grammy Award winning bluesman Robert Cray will serve as special fundraising host on the public television broadcasts.

In 1983, when legendary blues guitarist Albert King, then age 60, was joined by his disciple Stevie Ray Vaughan, then age 29, on a Canadian sound stage for the live music TV series In Session, magic took place. Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughan In Session is not simply a television program: it's a summit of two master musicians. The only known recording of King and Vaughan performing together, this is the concert that blues fans in general, and Stevie Ray Vaughan fans in particular, have been waiting for.

The audio recording of the performance went on to sell more than 325,000 units from two releases: the first in 1999, the second in 2009. On November 9, 2010, Stax Records, a division of Concord Music Group, released In Session as both a DVD and a deluxe DVD/CD combination. - more on this story

Have A Burning Question for Duff McKagan?
(hennemusic) Seattle Weekly are trying something cool with Reverb columnist Duff McKagan – taking questions for the renowned bassist.

Here's the blurb from Seattle Weekly: McKagan has been around the block a few times. He's played in a few bands (Loaded, Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver) and studied business at Seattle U; he's a voracious reader, a bassist, a married father of two, and he's here to help.

We're going to try something new next week and let those of you who have been regular (or irregular, for that matter) consumers of Duff's weekly columns a chance to ping him with a few queries. Like his column, the questions need not be music related. - more on this story

Gregg Allman Already Itching To Record Again
(Gibson) Gregg Allman's new album, Low Country Blues, won't hit record stores until Jan. 25, but already the blues-rock veteran is looking ahead to that disc's follow-up.

"I'll tell ya, I can't wait to get back in there and cut another one," Allman said in a just-published interview with Billboard.com. "That would be fine with me. It really would. It seems like every time we do a record it somehow gets your writing juices flowing. That kind of stuff just starts to come forward, so I'm hoping that maybe for the next one I can write a bunch of [new songs]."

Allman went on to say it was a meeting last summer with T-Bone Burnett, who produced Low Country Blues, that rekindled his interest in making a solo disc. "One of the first things out of [Burnett's] mouth was [longtime Allman Brothers Band producer] Tommy Dowd – that almost sold me right there," Allman said. "Plus, he was there in Memphis with two architect friends of his and they were measuring the Sun Records building board by board, and he was going to replicate it right next to his house. And I was like, 'Man, that's the hippest thing I've ever heard!' So I decided to give it a try." - more on this story

Sammy Hagar Talks Autobiography
(Gibson) Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar is putting the finishing touches on his autobiography, according to the Marin Independent Journal. Titled Red: My Uncensored Life as a Rocker, the book is due next year on HarperCollins.

"The book's basically done, but the editors want me to go deeper in a couple of areas," he said. "They said, 'There were problems in Van Halen? Well, what kind of problems?' The way I've written this book is that I'm just telling the stories, from childhood until now. It's humorous in places, there are sad things, inspirational things."

In addition to his work with Chickenfoot, Hagar's also been involved in a new film. Go There Once, Be There Twice is a documentary celebrating the 21st anniversary of Hagar's Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Metallica's Lars Still Loving Death Magnetic
(Gibson) Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich says that, more than two years after its release, the band's last studio album Death Magnetic still sounds great to him. Ulrich explains his opinion to Andrew Haug of Australian radio program The Racket.

"I'm hard-pressed to think of a Metallica record that has lasted as long in the positive department," he said. "Death Magnetic's had a good lifespan. We finished it about two and a half years ago. I cranked a couple of songs in my car when I was home last time – a couple, three, four songs – and it still sounds... I mean, it's got great energy, it's really in your face, and it's kind of just nutty and lively and cool. A lot of the earlier Metallica records we would always find faults with very quickly after you let them go or give them to a record company or release them or whatever, but Death Magnetic is still viewed upon with a very much positive kind of vibe."

Ulrich also defended the album against complaints that the music sounds very compressed and lacks a dynamic range. "Obviously, when you listen to tiny, little earbud headphones or whatever on an MP3, compressed type of device, it's got a little bit of a different vibe than if you listen to a big, kick-ass home stereo," he said. "I think people always find something, and we try to just do the best we can on all fronts. And that one may have slipped... We may have turned it up to... Is 11 the clichι? We may have turned it up to 12." - more on this story

Bob Dylan's Handwritten Lyrics to be Auctioned
(Gibson) Bob Dylan's hand-scrawled lyrics for "The Times They are A-Changin'" will be a-sold to the highest bidder during a December 10 auction. The words to the classic protest song were written on "a sheet of unruled three-hole notebook paper," according to Sotheby's auction catalog. The song went on to become the title track of Dylan's 1964 album.

The Dylan lyrics sheet will be auctioned off as part of a large collection of books and manuscripts. Sotheby's expects the lot to sell for more than $200,000.

The reason that the "The Time They are A-Changin'" lyrics are no longer in Dylan's care is because he ditched the sheet as soon as he memorized the words. He gave the sheet to his folk-singing friend Kevin Krown. When Krown died in the '90s, he left the paper to Mac and Eve McKenzie, who were also fixtures on the New York folk scene in the '60s. - more on this story
