Glenn Danzig Returns
Glenn Danzig is set to unleash his first new Danzig studio album in six years. Deth Red Sabaoth, produced by Glenn and recorded in Los Angeles over the course of 2009, will be released on June 22, 2010 (Evilive/The End Records).

The 11-track collection, penned by Danzig, is laced with Glenn's lycanthropic growls and blues-infected wailing. Tracks including "Black Candy, "The Revengeful," and "On A Wicked Night," emit a spectral glow to rival the highest points in Danzig's colossal discography. Part I of the exquisite two-part "Pyre of Souls" opens with acoustic guitar, haunting piano, Glenn's plainsong vocal, and an almost dirge-like feel; Part II explodes with electric guitars and a driving, mesmerizing cadence.

"I think that fans will really dig this new album," said Glenn. "I've been told several times that the album has a cool vitality to it, that it sounds energized, and I got that feeling when I was recording it. I wanted to have an organic sound, bigger and thicker, so I went out and bought some 1970's Kustom tuck 'n roll bass amps to play some of the guitar parts through. You'll hear real reverb, real tremolo on this album, which sounds completely different than the stuff that's done with computer chips." - more on this story

The Shins' Jason Mercer and Danger Mouse's Broken Bells Hitting The Road
In the wake of their new band's self titled Columbia Records debut charting at No 7 and selling just shy of 50,000 in its first week (and reaching as high as No. 1 on iTunes), James Mercer and Brian Burton a/k/a Danger Mouse have confirmed Broken Bells first ever tour. The dates commence May 18 in San Diego and will include stops in 16 North American cities.

In addition to being the year's highest charting debut album by an alternative/rock band, Broken Bells' has met with an insanely and unanimously positive critical reception. The mere handful of shows the band has played to date have fared likewise, selling out as quickly as tickets could be processed, and dazzling crowds in Los Angeles, New York, and most recently Austin.

Broken Bells features Mercer on vocals, guitars and bass while Burton plays organ, drums, piano, synths and bass. The pair play all instruments on the album with the exception of a full string section arranged by Daniele Luppi. Broken Bells was recorded by Todd Monfalcone and Kennie Takahashi at Mondo Studio in Los Angeles and produced by Danger Mouse. - more on this story

The Outfield Still Playing Deep
Our friend Ross CAT from Nightlife Online Magazine recently caught up with Tony Lewis of the 80s hitmakers The Outfield. Here is a little of that exchange. Ross CAT - Seems we've caught up with you at a great time as The Outfield is in the midst of creating some highly anticipated new music while celebrating the glory days of the "Play Deep" album all at once.

Tony Lewis - Well we certainly hope it's going to be as great a record; as you already mentioned we are extremely pleased to have Alan Jackman back playing with us once again on drums. Alan is actually in the studio as we speak laying down the drum tracks. It's really a great vibe being back in the studio with both John & Alan; we really hope to capture the spirit of the bands beginnings with these new songs.

Ross CAT - Do you feel John's battle with cancer may have inspired this reunion of the original band members?

Tony Lewis - I really don't think it was John's illness that lead us here; obviously he sees life through different eyes after that humbling experience. It was after a reunion tour back in 2000 that we just kind of looked at what's happening in the music scene from bands from our era. There are very few bands out touring right now with their original line-ups in tact for whatever reasons. The thought process was since we are all still here & close friends if this is going to be our last record we can at least give to the fans through the same organic process that gave us "Play Deep" new songs we can be proud of. - more on this story

Ben Kweller Offers Free Song Download
Today Ben Kweller, in conjunction with Esquire Magazine and its April issue (on newsstands nationwide March 23), is offering an exclusive, free download of his song "It All Happened" on the magazine's Web site.

For this issue, Esquire Magazine asked five of its favorite musicians - Dierks Bentley, Charlie Mars, Bob Schneider, Griffin House, and Ben Kweller - to come to the Shack-Up Inn in Clarksdale, Mississippi and take part in a two-day fashion shoot with world-famous photographer Danny Clinch.

To make things interesting, Esquire also asked each of the musicians to take the "Esquire Songwriting Challenge" which called for each artist to write, perform, and record an original song with lyrics that include the phrase "Somewhere in Mississippi." For some of the musicians, this became the title of their song and they used it time and again. For others, they used the phrase once before heading in another direction. The results are five songs as unique and entertaining as the men who created them.

New DVD Exploring Atlantic Music Scene Features Black Lips, Deerhunter, Mastodon and More
MVD Visual is pleased to announce the release of "We Fun: Atlanta GA Inside/Out" for North American distribution on April 17 (Record Store Day). It will be offered exclusively to independent record stores for a period of 90 days.

Directed by Matthew Robison (producer, Silver Jew) and produced by Bill Cody (Athens GA Inside Out), "We Fun: Atlanta GA Inside/Out" is a companion piece to cult classic "Athens GA Inside Out". The film examines the underbelly of the Atlanta music scene and stars Black Lips, Deerhunter, King Khan & the Shrines, Mastodon, the Selmanaires, and the Coathangers.

Cody explains the differences and similarities between the two films: "The similarities were working with each of these scenes, and there was some overlap there. The filming was different this time around because of the funding issues, but Matt [Robison, the director] really persevered. It was amazing to see how much the technology had changed since doing "Athens," so there was a lot we could do with the editing on this film. We were able to shoot a lot of different shows and get onstage and be there with the bands. The idea is to get people to appreciate that they were at that scene even if they weren't. You get these retrospective documentaries [about older, more established bands] where it's like, "Oh man, thank God someone shot that," but doing it in real time is harder because people don't think the same way." - more on this story

Delta Spirit Set New Album Release
Rounder Records is excited to announce the release of the new Delta Spirit Record on June 8, 2010. Entitled History From Below, the record was produced by My Morning Jacket's keyboardist Bo Koster and Eli Thomson.

History From Below is the follow up to the band's critically acclaimed debut, 2008's Ode to Sunshine. "All we wanted to do is put the record together one song at a time," says Delta Spirit's singer/guitarist Matthew Vasquez about History From Below. "It's been three years of straight touring off our last record so most of the songs were written in hotel rooms and tested in front of an audience. We spent spent six months of this last year making a record that sums up three years of growing up."

History From Below was recorded at Prairie Sun Studio C in Cotati, CA -- the same place Tom Waits has recorded almost exclusively since 1991. The record is brimming with incredibly deep and moving songs that are alternately grand and explosive, always eloquent and melodic. It has a powerful energy that radiates musically, lyrically and vocally from the moment you hit play as it finally captures the uncontainable spirit the band exudes on stage. - more on this story

Booker T. and the MGs' Steve Cropper Teams With The Rascals Vocalist Felix Cavaliere For A Second Album
Steve Cropper, guitarist for Booker T. and the MGs and one of the primary architects of the unmistakable Stax sound of the 1960s, and vocalist/keyboardist Felix Cavaliere, the voice of the Rascals and the pivotal figure in the blue-eyed soul movement of that same era, have reconvened for their second collaborative recording. Sparks fly at the crossroads of Memphis soul and East Coast R&B when Stax Records releases Midnight Flyer on June 15, 2010.

Midnight Flyer, recorded in Nashville and mixed by the legendary David Z, is the follow-up to Nudge It Up a Notch, the 2008 maiden voyage by Cropper and Cavaliere that scored critical acclaim from the music and mainstream press. The San Francisco Chronicle called Nudge It Up a Notch "an unexpected delight," while Blues Wax heralded the project as "one of the great surprises of 2008, and further evidence of Concord's genuine commitment to the revamped Stax imprint."

The Stax legacy — and Concord's commitment to it — are very much alive in Midnight Flyer, an album that once again showcases the songwriting prowess of two towering figures from one of the most seminal periods in the history of American pop music. Assisting with the songwriting throughout most of the album's 12 tracks is drummer/percussionist/vocalist Tom Hambridge, who also lent a hand with the crafting of the previous album.

Hear Why People Are Excited About Ruby James' New Album With A Free Song Download!
Ruby James reveals her new CD Happy Now to the world this week with AOL giving away a free download of her single "The Predictable Kind" today here.

Produced by Charlie Sexton, the sophomore release features both Charlie and Will Sexton playing guitar, bass and drums along with Mike Thompson of the Eagles flying in on keyboards. Born out of the "Austin Sessions" that took place over three years, Ruby deems this album her most serendipitous and satisfying effort yet.

How did this Los Angeles native find herself working with Austin music royalty? Ruby James still asks that question. Happy Now is a veritable triumph for a girl who had, just prior, found herself living in a deep artistic depression causing her to give up her musical dream altogether for a time. Ruby James' life would turn upside down in a virtual instant when she ventured off to Texas at the suggestion of a new friend, Matt MacCormack.

Alcoholic Faith Mission Book Some Dates
To coincide with the U.S. release of their new album on Paper Garden Records on April 27, Alcoholic Faith Mission will be heading out on a "tour" of the northeastern U.S in April and May.

Let This Be The Last Night We Care, the band's third album, seems destined to become one of the summer's ubiquitous favorites. It is equal parts melancholy and celebratory, electronic and organic – propelled along by shout-sung choruses, stacked harmonies, walls of electric guitar, analog clicks and crashes. The album's hallmarks are its seemingly infinite textures, and beautiful melodies sung with a sense of urgency to often despondent lyrics.

No Symmetry for Those Mockingbirds
New Jersey's Those Mockingbirds came together with the intention of capturing a collective desire for new sonic fusion. With a balance of old and new, soft and spacey, and in-your-face rock grit, the band will be introduced to the world with the release of their debut EP No Symmetry digitally on April 20 and in stores June 8.

Songwriter Addam Bird and instrumentalist Dom Lettera first envisioned the birth of THOSE MOCKINGBIRDS after combing through hundreds of new songs and fresh ideas. After recruiting drummer Matt Yeager, guitarist Dane Zarra and violinist/keyboardist Tory Daines, the newly assembled outfit began to shape songs with a meld of eclectic elements that match mood with energy. The music is decorated with contrast, though held together with stylistic consistency all their own.

"We mix the old with new, violins with distorted guitar, meshing male and female vocals," explains Bird. "These tools work next to each other because the songwriting holds them all together." And as THOSE MOCKINGBIRDS realized they were striking this balance, their debut EP NO SYMMETRY came to life.

Epitaph for Veara
Veara have announced plans to release their new album, What We Left Behind, on May 25 via Epitaph Records in partnership with Running Man Records. Starting today, fans can listen to the brand new track "My B-Side Life" on their MySpace page

The quirky foursome from Augusta, GA, made up of Bradley Wyrosdick (Vocals), Patrick Bambrick (Vocals/Guitar), Bryan Kerr (Vocals/Bass) and Brittany Harrell (Drums), has officially arrived on the scene with their highly energetic new album, What We Left Behind. Co-produced by A Day To Remember frontman Jeremy McKinnon and master of the boards Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, Our Last Night), Veara's sophomore release draws influence from genre groundbreakers like New Found Glory and Blink 182, while boasting a sharp contemporary edginess that will rapidly elevate them within the scene.

Veara has a lot to prove with the release of What We Left Behind, a title which the band says is about leaving behind doubt and naysayers, and a theme that can be found throughout the album. After years of fighting a revolving door of band members, ceaseless doubt and small town narrow-mindedness, Veara respond with a bold new album. "We have been through a lot of turmoil as a band," says drummer Brittany Harrell. "Whether it be people doubting us, saying you can't do this, members quitting, people lying, etc. The songs on this record have to do with everything that we were going through within that year. It pretty much means all those topics are being left behind because we can do this and we will do this no matter what." - more on this story

Singled Out: Hey Guy's How To Kill Me
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Hey Guy vocalist Boris Pelekh tells us about title track from their EP "How To Kill Me". We now turn it over to Boris for the story:

During a brief intermission in my music journey I found myself toying around with the idea of starting a metal project. I quickly sat down and started laying out material. One of the first songs that I wrote had a really heavy verse and somehow a really pretty modal chorus. I sent it over to a friend that was offering to do vocals for the metal project and he replied that the ideas were good but way too different to all be in one song.

About half a year later I was doing work on the record that is now the "hey guy EP". I was browsing my song notebook for material that I had written through the years. I found the chorus that I originally wrote for the metal project and was absolutely stunned at how beautiful it was and immediately started shaping it into a song. That became the chorus of "how to kill me"

The verse of the song was developed quickly during a session of playing around with my effects pedals. I used to love to use harmonizers on guitar back in my fusion days but had never messed around with them for rock. I threw up a harmonizer and a delay and out came pouring the riff and the melody that would be the verse for how to kill me. It took me many hours to tie the Chorus and the verse together, they were in different keys but I knew that they belonged together emotionally(i sort of feel that way with most girls). After hours of tangling harmonies I figured out the transition and it evoked so much emotion in me that I went outside and ran around the block 3 times.

Later reviewing all my new material I voted "how to kill me" as my favorite composition of mine. The lyrical content of the song was very apparent to me. I was reading a lot of Kurt Vonnegut at the time and learning insane amounts of philosophy. Since "how to kill me" was my favorite composition I decided that it would be perfect music bed for a philosophical analogy of what is that is "me". I called it "how to kill me" because the song is a backwards explanation of how to take away certain factors that would amount me to nothing.

The bridge of the song came about in a production session with my brother Leo. We had both decided that the song needs to climax into a rich rock pinnacle before it can properly say what it is trying to say.

"how to kill me" was recorded for the original EP and is being rereleased on the first "hey guy" self-titled LP.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the band and album
