Is A New KISS Song Nothin' But a Poison Melody?
antiMusic reports: KISS inspired Poison and now it seems like the shoe is on the other foot with a track off KISS's new album 'Sonic Boom' carrying a verse that has a very similar melody to a Poison hit.

While not a note by note lifting, but take a casual listen to the main vocal melody in the verses in the KISS track "Never Enough" and you can't help but be reminded of the verses to Poison's "Nothin' But A Good Time".

A few fans have posted samples up on YouTube if you want to head over there and hear it and judge for yourself. You can find the Poison song there as well, which ironically featured Poison covering KISS in the intro to the official music video. Given that link we have to assume that this was unintentional on Paul Stanley's part and is just a coincidence. We also don't have a listing of songwriter credits, so it might be an outside songwriters doing (though they reportedly didn't use any on this effort) but it's hard to believe that no one in the KISS camp picked up on the similarities. - YouTube

Aerosmith, Nirvana Sound Engineer Murder Suspect On The Loose
Blabbermouth reports: Seattle man charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of 49-year-old Tom Pfaeffle, who has worked as a sound engineer with Alice Cooper, Queensryche, Aerosmith, Nirvana and other bands and performers in live concerts, has fled and is sought by police nationwide on a no-bail warrant.

Kino Michael Gomez, 51, wrote his family a "goodbye" letter, telling them he was taking a "one-way trip to the mountains."

The letter (see full story) — an exhibit in Prosecutor Karl Sloan's request for an arrest warrant in Okanogan County Superior Court on Monday — states Gomez believes he's already been condemned by society, and would rather be dead than lose his freedom and his gun rights.

Smashing Pumpkins Releasing 44 Free Songs
antiMusic reports: Smashing Pumpkins mainman Billy Corgan had exciting news for fans on Wednesday. Seems he plans to outdo Radiohead's free album concept by giving away 44 tracks to fans for free and only making money off of a string of limited edition EPs and a boxset. Pretty cool fan friendly concept but we'll let Billy tell you about it: I'm happy to finally announce the plans for the new Smashing Pumpkins album.

Recording began yesterday, September 15th, 2009 on the new record which will be entitled 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope'. The album will feature 44 songs, 4 of which are now being recorded. My desire is to release a song at a time beginning around Halloween of this year, with each new release coming shortly after until all 44 are out. Each song will be made available absolutely for free, to anyone anywhere. There will be no strings attached. Free will mean free, which means you won't have to sign up for anything, give an email address, or jump through a hoop. You will be able to go and take the song or songs as you wish, as many times as you wish.

We will however sell highly limited edition EP's (of 4 songs each times 11), and details of how those EP's will be made available are still being worked out. Because the songs themselves will be free, the EP's will be more like collectors items for the discerning fan who will want the art itself, along with the highest possible audio quality available. The EP's will be more like mini-box sets rather than your normal cd single. We may also offer other variations for sale, say for example a digital single with a demo version of a song. The commitment that is most important is the one I'm making to you: that the music of 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope' will be available for free to everyone. All 44 songs: free for ALL.

When the entire album is finished, it will be compiled into a deluxe box set which will also be made available for sale. Those who have bought the EP's need not worry, as the box set will not be a recompilation of the limited edition pieces. - More of this announcement and be sure to check out the news on the band recording in analog!

I Am Ozzy Coming Next Month
antiMusic reports: Ozzy Osbourne has set a Rocktober 1 release date for his autobiography, "I Am Ozzy." That is if you happen to live in the UK, the OzzCamp promises a US release soon, but no world on the rest of the world. What can we expect from this autobiography? Will he gloss over the bandmates who contributed to his career? Will he acknowledge them? Doubtful. But it will be interesting to read Ozzy's perspective on Ozzy. Here is what Ozzy had to say about the book himself, "adfadsgrwtewew SHHHHAAAARRROOOON!!!! ghghgwwdad" Just kidding, here is the real message posted Wednesday on Ozzy's official site:

"They've said some crazy things about me over the years. I mean, okay: 'He bit the head off a bat.' Yes. 'He bit the head off a dove.' Yes. But then you hear things like, 'Ozzy went to the show last night, but he wouldn't perform until he'd killed fifteen puppies…' Now me, kill fifteen puppies? I love puppies. I've got eighteen of the fucking things at home. I've killed a few cows in my time, mind you. And the chickens. I shot the chickens in my house that night.

"It haunts me, all this crazy stuff. Every day of my life has been an event. I took lethal combinations of booze and drugs for thirty fucking years. I survived a direct hit by a plane, suicidal overdoses, STDs. I've been accused of attempted murder. Then I almost died while riding over a bump on a quad bike at fucking two miles per hour. - more on this story

You Really Got Me Drummer Dies
antiMusic reports: Bobby Graham who has been called the UK's greatest drummer, who played on some of the biggest hits of the 60s and also turned down the job of drumming for the Beatles, died of stomach cancer after a short fight with the disease. He was 69.

oneindia reports: The percussionist had played on more than 15,000 records, which saw him working with stars like The Animals, Dusty Springfield and Tom Jones.

However, one of his best efforts was the hit track 'You Really Got Me', which he recorded while sitting in for The Kinks' drummer Mick Avory. "When Dave [Davies] played the opening chords, Bobby forgot the complicated introduction he had planned, and just thumped one beat on the snare drum with as much power as he could muster," the Daily Express quoted the band's frontman, Ray Davies, as recollecting - more on this story

Eddie Van Halen Sitcom Airs Next Week
Blabbermouth reports: Eddie Van Halen will play himself in an episode of "Two and a Half Men" when the CBS comedy returns September 21. Van Halen's scene was taped in early August in Burbank, California.

Executive producer Chuck Lorre approached the guitarist after learning he was a big fan of the sitcom. "He was gracious enough to do a cameo, which is really cool," Lorre told Entertainment Weekly.

Van Halen said, "I was asked to do a cameo for 'Two and a Half Men'. I typically shy away from these requests as I am not an actor, but [actor] Charlie [Sheen] and I are friends and since it was a scene with him, I agreed. Charlie and I had a great time, even though I was very nervous. The cast and crew were a pleasure to work with and helped me feel a little more at ease."

Mick Taylor Not Really Broke and Not Suing his Former Rolling Stones Bandmates
Rock Radio reports: Mick Taylor's manager says the former Rolling Stones guitarist is "horrified" over the contents of a Daily Mail interview which stated he was preparing to sue his ex-bandmates. Jeff Allen, who also plays drums in the Mick Taylor Band, says there's no need to take legal action. The Mail quoted Taylor as saying he hadn't been paid since 1982 and he was considering a lawsuit over the immorality of the situation.

"Mick certainly didn't say he was going to sue the Stones," Allen says. "He's got a very good relationship with them....The last time we met up, him and Keith Richards were like long-lost lovers, hugging each other and happy to see each other. When Mick was ill some weeks ago Mick Jagger had his office phone up to see what was going on, then phoned the hospital just to check on Mick.

"So there's no animosity between Mick and the Stones. You can imagine the shock, horror and disbelief when that article came out in the Daily Mail. The emphasis was that Mick was some kind of run-down tramp living in Suffolk. The reality is Mick's having the house done up, and he's living in Holland at the moment with his girlfriend."
