Earshot reports: Nico Vega is currently on a headlining tour, including a homecoming Halloween show at Club Nokia with rockers Chevelle, before jumping on tour with Inward Eye, and Neon Trees. The band (singer Aja Volkman, guitarist Rich Koehler and drummer Dan Epand) has made a name for itself thanks in part to its blistering and in-your-face live show highlighted by dynamic frontwoman Aja Volkman's volatile stage presence. Having worked with producers Linda Perry (Pink, Gwen Stefani) and Tim Edgar (Earl Greyhound), and mixer Tchad Blake (Pearl Jam, Elvis Costello, Peter Gabriel), Nico Vega channels a classic swagger a la Led Zeppelin and adds soaring, soulful vocals somewhere between Fiona Apple and PJ Harvey.

PR reports: The Wolf meets the vampire, just in time for Halloween. Sea Wolf took a minute from their national, headlining musical voyage to record a song for the anticipated Twilight: New Moon soundtrack, released ahead of schedule (October 16) due to overwhelming demand. The original track, "The Violet Hour," shines plenty alongside a veritable who's who of contributors such as Thom Yorke, Death Cab For Cutie and Grizzly Bear, among others, and will appear in the film as well. Alex Brown Church's confident Cash-like swagger leads this amplified folk-rock ditty along a brisk percussive shuffle that rests on the shoulders of tuneful slide guitar. On November 6, the Twilight frenzy will come to the Hollywood & Highland complex in Los Angeles for a special event featuring performances by Sea Wolf, as well as Death Cab For Cutie, Anya Marina, and Band of Skulls. A Q&A with select cast members will follow.

Glass Onyon reports: Over the course of 48 hours in the studio, Bosch members Christopher Brown, Charles Greenleaf and Kevin Sims created their thirteen track, eponymously titled first release, Bosch. Planning was utterly simple: Sims arrived via car from Athens, Georgia with a carload of instruments, Greenleaf arrived via plane from Athens, and Brown, proprietor of northern Illinois' Studio Roadnoise, set up a mix template to accommodate their many instruments. What you hear on this CD is pure and serious play as three creative and talented musicians abandon all orthodoxy and, like the flocking of birds, allow natural and organic organizing principles to govern the structure and evolution of their play. The schedule was intense, with four recording sessions over 48 hours. The trio replenished themselves between recordings with food, swimming and viewing DVDs on such subjects as Harry Partch and Glen Gould and an array of Adult Swim episodes. Each of the recording sessions seemed to improve on the previous one. By the end, they felt confident they had a CD in the hard drive.

PR reports: Brian Bonz and The Dot Hongs are very excited to announce two upcoming national tours in support of their Triple Crown / Favorite Gentlemen Records debut, From Sumi To Japan. Beginning October 26th in Dallas, TX, these Sunset Park, Brooklyn natives will join Straylight Run for a two week run before joining Person L and John Nolan (Taking Back Sunday) for a 5 week trek that will begin in Cleveland, OH on November 10th. In addition, Brian will perform a solo acoustic set at Nassau Coliseum on November 28th with Brand New and others. A band KEXP praised as "the best of Brooklyn's experimental rock scene," has been winning over fans and critics with what Alternative Press praises as "concepts that are immersed in an entirely refreshing context, producing delicately experimental ornate indie pop." Filled with stories of escape and the value of youth, From Sumi To Japan, draws from a variety of genres that Beyond Race Magazine praises as an intelligent "collection of nostalgic songwriting and dreamy music that will make you feel light years away from New York." The band's enchanting pop, dreamy ballads and experimental rock have also been called "meaningful music and downright fun, two things that have rarely come together on any single 2009 album to date" by Stereo Subversion. Jeremiah Edmond from Manchester Orchestra simply calls Bonz "one of his favorite new musicians" and an "incredible artist" while The Orlando Weekly says, "expect great things from this fledging indie breeze that could easily become a monsoon."

conqueroo reports: I See Hawks in L.A. will release Shoulda Been Gold, a 17-song greatest non-hits collection including five previously unheard songs (including the haunting title track "Shoulda Been Gold"). The set will come out January 26, 2010 on Collectors' Choice Music's American Beat imprint.Never mind their clear-as-country-water name. "The band name was a code, a question, a diffident invitation: If you see hawks, then maybe we should talk." Formed by Rob Waller and brothers Paul and Anthony Lacques, I See Hawks in L.A. was established on an Echo Park front porch in 2000, the last year of the Clinton administration, or as the band recalls, "mellow's last gasp." Now, four albums later -- each the source of radiant reviews in publications like Spin, USA Today, Village Voice, Uncut and the Los Angeles Times. According to Rob and Paul's liner notes from Shoulda Been Gold, "The Hawks imagined an America post-oil, fertilizer and gated communities, and an American folk music with tendrils cracking concrete to reach people aware of the ground they stand on." The bulk of their eponymous first CD was recorded in the living room of Waller's Echo Park bungalow on primitive equipment. It was released somewhat ominously on September 11, 2001.

PR reports: Transfer is poised to release their full-length album aptly titled, Future Selves, on November 3rd. Earlier this year, the band secluded themselves in their studio for a month to write the record. Tucked away in the canyons in North San Diego among the influence of coyote howls and cricket bows, they created a collection of songs with poignant and chilling lyrics and sounds broad enough in range to deem undeniable. While exhibiting all the grandeur of British rock, yet rooted in the gritty allure of the American west, Transfer beseeches personal discovery. You can either experience Transfer by being fully immersed within a good pair of headphones, or, preferably, get caught up in the intensity of their unusually captivating and dynamic live performance. With the impending release of their digital-only second full-length release, Future Selves, Transfer stands poised to win over unsuspecting listeners and to elicit praise for its remarkably savvy take on the art of rock music.
