Black Sabbath Star Undergoing Stem Cell Treatment
BW&BK reports: Black Sabbath guitar legend Tony Iommi spoke with The Radcliffe & Maconie Show on BBC Radio 2 this week about his recent hand injury. "We're just taking a break now," Iommi says about the brief Heaven And Hell hiatus - the band also featuring singer Ronnie James Dio, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Vinnie Appice.

"I've had this problem with my hand and I'm having stem cell treatment on it," Iommi continues. "I have to wear a guard on my hand to prevent me from banging it. But it's coming along good.

"The cartilage went out on the joints, so the joints were rubbing on the joints. It was bone on bone and it was getting a bit painful. I've had pain for about 18 months and have been taking anti-inflammatories and pain killers. But I wanted to stop doing it because it upsets your stomach. This is the latest thing, so we'll see if it works."

Thought we'd throw you all a quick little update about what's currently going on in the AA! lineup. The band and Nick parted ways recently in a mutually agreed non-explosive fashion, which we all believe is the best for both sides.

Jack's Mannequin Stand Up To Cancer and Announce DVD and EP Releases
PR reports: Andrew McMahon, frontman for Sire Records' pop/rock recording artist Jack's Mannequin, will join Stand Up To Cancer's team of celebrity ambassadors in December 2009. The Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) initiative funds groundbreaking research aimed at getting new treatments to patients faster, and aims to rally the public around the fight against the disease. To date, the group has raised more than $100 million, SU2C's celebrity ambassadors support the initiative by participating in fundraising events and serving as spokespeople in public service announcements and media interviews to generate awareness about cancer's devastating impact and the role research plays in the effort to end it.

In addition, Sire Records will release Dear Jack on November 3rd, a DVD documentary shot by McMahon himself which chronicles his own personal fight against leukemia. Equipped with a DV camera Sire Records originally gave him to capture the making of his debut Jack's Mannequin album, Everything in Transit, McMahon kept the camera rolling after the crucial day in May 2005 when he not only finished his debut solo album, but was also diagnosed with cancer at only 22 years old. Directed by filmmakers Corey Moss and Josh Morrisroe and narrated by Tommy Lee, this documentary is a raw look at the battle that is leukemia. The film will be available in-stores, on the Jack's Mannequin website www.jacksmannequin.com and via digital download through iTunes.

A special Limited Edition Dear Jack pre-order from the website sold out in only one week. The 3,000 lucky fans who reserved their copy of the DVD also received an exclusive, newly recorded and previously unreleased track, "Swim (Music Box)" as an instant audio bonus, along with an autographed poster from McMahon.

Longwave's Steve Schiltz Returns with Hurricane Bells
PR reports: Hurricane Bells will release their debut album Tonight Is The Ghost digitally on November 10, 2009 via Vagrant Records.

Hurricane Bells - a new project from Steve Schiltz, the singer and guitarist of Longwave for nearly ten years - has been garnering serious attention lately for a relatively new and largely unknown band after an album b-side, "Monsters," was chosen for the soundtrack of the second film in the Twilight franchise, New Moon. Suddenly Schiltz's bedroom (or basement, technically) project, which he had originally planned on self-releasing, was part of one of the most talked about current pop culture phenomena.

Hurricane Bells began when after touring the better part of the last year around Longwave's fourth album Secrets Are Sinister (a critical success and arguably the best of the band's career), Schiltz set up shop to create a new project with little else than his MacBook and an Mbox. Writing, playing, recording, and mixing every note himself, he arranged what would become Hurricane Bells' debut, Tonight Is The Ghost. Some songs were fully crafted within the past 18 months, while others are newly architected from pieces written throughout his years as a songwriter.

Rachael Ray Launches Campaign to Induct Daryl Hall and John Oates into Rock Hall
PR reports: Rachael Ray was outraged at a recent taping of her show with guests Daryl Hall and John Oates when she learned that the biggest-selling pop duo of all time have not been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The episode will air November 6.

Determined to right this egregious wrong, Rachael said "Hall and Oates has my vote!" in a call to action posted on her blog, urging fans to leave comments advocating Daryl and John's induction. In fewer than 48 hours, the makeshift petition had amassed nearly 400 testimonials, plus groundswells of support on Twitter (#hallandoatespetition) and Facebook.

Fueling the uproar is the success of 'Do What You Want, Be What You Are: The Music of Daryl Hall and John Oates' (RCA/Legacy), the duo's first ever box set, which debuted at #89 on the Billboard chart this week – the third highest CD box set debut of 2009 behind the two Beatles sets – and #17 on the R&B chart. You can also catch Daryl and John performing on A&E's 'Private Sessions' this Sunday morning, October 25.
