antiMusic reports: Who needs a publicist when you have Ross Halfin to tell everybody about your plans? A couple weeks back we reported about a rumor that Metallica were going to film one their shows for a new DVD. Rumor had it that it was the Paris stop on their world tour, now it looks like the band's first gigs in Mexico City in a decade will be filmed for a DVD. (According to what the band's management told Blabbermouth, the Paris show is being filmed for a DVD to be released only in France) While nothing official has come out from the Metallica camp about the filming plans in Mexico, photographer Ross Halfin spilled the beans about the plan on his website. Halfin blogged, "I'm in LA for a couple of days then off to Guadalajara to shoot The Mars Volta, then back to LA for love making, then back to Mexico to shoot Metallica, who are playing three nights in the football stadium, which is now going to be filmed so I have to shoot a DVD cover." Aside from talking about hanging out with Jimmy Page at his house for a black mass and to worship the devil (he was joking), he had more to tell fans about his "boring" bank holiday.

antiMusic reports: Michael Anthony is energized by his new supergroup Chickenfoot, but his disappoint in the demise of his relationship with Van Halen is readily evident whenever he discusses it, despite his trying to put a positive face on it. BW&BK just posted the second part of their extensive interview with Anthony and here is part of their conversation dealing with the fall out with Van Halen: Anthony: Some people want to go through life being bitter and everything. At my age at this point in my career, I want to have fun. You never know how long you've got in this business, so why waste time doing that? It was very disappointing. It started out in 2004 when we did that tour. For whatever reason, the brothers - Eddie in particular - was upset that I was playing with Sammy again. Van Halen wasn't doing anything. And I didn't think I was doing anything to tarnish the band's name, or career or anything. I just wanted to go out and jam a few of these songs - Sammy wanted me to come out and have some fun and the fans wanted to hear it. They were having a great time. So I figured 'Hey, what the heck.' BW&BK: So no connection, business or otherwise with Eddie or Alex Van Halen? Anthony: "Yes. I could sit there and be bitter. When I actually found out that I wasn't going to be part of the last reunion thing with Dave, I heard about it like all the other fans did. Through the press or whatever. The one thing that hurt me more than anything else was that they launched their new website as they announced the tour, and I looked on the website and they had on the side of the screen on their home-page, all the early Van Halen records and on a couple, they actually took my image off the record. On the first record, if you look very close, he put an image of his son on there. And that's the one thing that actually hurt me, that they - whoever it was, because I'm not pointing any fingers, but I think I know who is behind it - would want to erase me from the history of the band.

PR reports: Phish has done it again. The band that loves to keep everybody on the edge of their seats has surprised fans with its latest news. Earlier today, Phish posted a video of the band recording a brand new track, "Time Turns Elastic," at its website . The video was accompanied by two exciting announcements: "Time Turns Elastic" is available NOW, exclusively on the iTunes Store, and the album that they began recording with producer Steve Lillywhite in March 2009 is already complete and scheduled for release on July 28th.The video - which comes just days before the launch of Phish's sold-out North American summer tour - is the fifth in a series of innovative event announcements from the band. Phish's first shows in over four years were announced with a time-lapse video of an artist creating a painting that included the band's March 2009 dates at Virginia's Hampton Coliseum. Skywriting, Google Earth-style graphics and the Fenway Park organ were enlisted for announcements regarding the band's 2009 summer tour, generating tremendous chatter amongst Phish fans. Those who've been watching closely knew something was up when, just last Thursday, guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio performed a classical version of "Time Turns Elastic" with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. While he didn't say a word about the upcoming announcements, the performance served as a hint of what was to come.

PR reports: At Buckcherry's special intimate show at the Fillmore NY at Irving Plaza recently, the band presented a check in the amount of $10,000 to Childhelp, a leading national non-profit organization dedicated to helping victims of child abuse. The chart-topping, Grammy-nominated band launched the "Rescue Me Campaign" in April as part of the National Observance of Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month. Buckcherry frontman Josh Todd was originally inspired to become involved with Childhelp when he read A Child Called It, the renowned tale of abuse and neglect by Dave Pelzer, when it was assigned as homework to his daughter. Unable to shake the feelings the book conjured in him, Todd and guitarist Keith Nelson wrote, "A Child Called It" and "Rescue Me" for the band's album Black Butterfly. "If we can reach and save just one child or even their abuser from joining the terrible cycle of violence and abuse, then I will do whatever I can to support them. As a father, I can't bear to think of children being abused, and knowing that we will help point them in a direction where they can get help is very important to us," says Todd. Adds Nelson, "We hope that by standing up and saying 'This is not ok; there is help out there,' we can make an impact."

Rhino reports: In 2006, critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Pete Yorn contacted actress and Atco recording artist Scarlett Johansson with the idea to record a duets album in the spirit of Serge Gainsbourg's 1960s recordings with Brigitte Bardot. Johansson was intrigued by Yorn's out-of-the-blue invitation. "It sounded like an interesting little adventure," she explains. antiMusic reports: J.R. Richards made a name for himself fronting Dishwalla but this month he takes it a step further as he releases his new solo album, "A Beautiful End." Normally we ask the artist to tell us about just one song but we've waiting a long time for this album, so to celebrate we asked J.R. to pick some of his favorite songs from the album and tell us a little bit about each one. Here is J.R. with today's song "The Far End of the Black":This song was inspired by the feeling that I was finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. And though it felt good to get this song on paper, I felt at the time that it wasn't good enough to make it on a record and set it aside. Later though, after having a few friends tell me that they thought I should finish it, I made a quick demo of it (just acoustic guitar and vocal) and included it with the other demos I sent to the musicians who would be playing on the record. This is where the song turned a corner. You see with most of the songs on the record I had a very specific idea of what I wanted. But with this one I had none.......... they made it come to life. And when I listen to it now it sounds like a classic record to me. I was fortunate to have some amazing players on the record. Drummer Kenny Aronoff, Bass Player Chris Chaney and guitarists Phil X and Rusty Anderson. Learn more about J.R., his new album, find out where he's playing, and preview tracks from the new CD (and order a physical copy of the CD)
