Axl Says Slash is a Cancer
Reuters reports: In his latest public interface, published on Friday at AOL Music's spinner.com website, Guns N' Roses mainman Axl Rose sat down for a friendly interview with his pal, songwriter Del James.

The duo sidestepped the commercial failure of "Chinese Democracy," and the topic of a reunion inevitably came up. Rose said it was "highly doubtful for us to have more than one of the alumni up with us at any given time."

"I suppose (former bass player) Duff (McKagan) could play guitar on something somewhere but there's zero possibility of me having anything to do with Slash," Rose said. "In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed, avoided -- and the less anyone heard of him or his supporters the better." - Ouch, but he's not done!

Critics Vs Bono
Reuters reports: Irish band U2 releases its 12th studio album on Monday and while reviews are generally glowing, critics argue that lead singer Bono's dual role as rock star and campaigning "saviour" may be meddling with the music.

The U2 frontman has long juggled a dual career of rock superstar and high-profile campaigner, badgering world leaders and businessmen to fight everything from AIDS to poverty.

There are those who feel his mission is beginning to hinder the harmony, alienating potential fans and colouring everything that U2 does. "It's becoming increasingly difficult to hear U2's music without filtering it through your feelings about the other Bono, that strident, sanctimonious swirl of idealism, agenda and ego," J. Freedom du Lac wrote in the Washington Post. - more on this story

Barenaked Reason for Exit
AP reports: Singer-guitarist Steven Page said a big reason he decided to leave the Barenaked Ladies was he felt his songwriting voice was occasionally being squeezed out as a result of being in a five-member band.

A day after he announced on the band's Web site that he was leaving the group, Page said the Barenaked Ladies has so many songwriting voices that he's looking forward to a future as a solo artist.

"Frankly, the band itself was a five-way democracy and one of the great things about it is that it's been about the five-way collaboration, but it's also one of the things that's made me decide to be a solo artist," he said Thursday.

Jack White Working With Bob Dylan On Tribute Project
Angry Ape reports: Jack White has teamed-up with Bob Dylan for a tribute album to Hank Williams.

According to the White Stripes guitarist, Dylan "came upon, somehow, 20-25 unfinished songs by Hank Williams - just the lyrics, no music - and he started to ask people if they would finish these songs."

On his involvement on the project, White told MTV News: "He did one, asked Willie Nelson to do one, asked me to do one, and I think Lucinda Williams and Alan Jackson are on it too." - more on this story

Cypress Hill Return
Billboard reports: Cypress Hill is finishing its first studio album in five years and planning a fall release on Suburban Noize Records, according to the group's B-Real.

"We're mixing right now," B-Real, who just released his first solo album, "Smoke N Mirrors," tells Billboard.com.

He describes the rap troupe's new music as "gritty. It's aggressive. It's like hip-hop straight-up. We just felt like we needed to go back to that raw, gritty hip-hop sound but try to find a way to bridge it with what's going on now." - more on this story

Band Labeled Nazis, Fascistly Pulled From Toyota Music Festival
antiMusic reports: Nachtmystium frontman Blake Judd issued a statement about the band being pulled from the Scion Rock Fest. Another reason why corporate sponsorship of music and music events does not work (especially Scion who hires marketing companies that take two years to pay their advertising bills!) Here is what Blake had to say:

"Nachtmystium has sad news today with a once-again recurring issue surfacing from the wake of our past. We've been forced, at the request of the promoters and the folks at Scion/Toyota, to pull out of the Scion Rock Festival, scheduled for Saturday, February 28th.

"This news came to us just this past Tuesday and was very disheartening to say the least. A troubling, and unjustly-applied notion that we are, or ever have been, in any way, a "Nazi" band or a political band on any level, is completely absurd and we are disgusted that there is someone out there who really believes we are of this ilk. It made it as far as the sponsors of this events desks, and now we are forced to pull out of it after some political threatening on the part of these ridiculously uneducated person/people who have caused this ruckus. - more on this story

Dope Album Reloaded
MMP reports: Metal Mind Productions presents European release of Dope's "American Apathy Reloaded". The album contains remixes and alternate versions of songs taken from Dope's 2005 "American Apathy" album along with a DVD featuring 9 incredible live performances. The album will be available in a digipak edition on 16th March in Europe only.

Dope is an American nu metal band from Chicago, IL, formed in 1997. Over the course of a decade Dope has recorded 5 studio albums, established an incredibly devoted touring fan base, and sold more than a million albums worldwide. They've shared the stage with bands they love and respect, had their music featured in major motion pictures and in hit videogames like "Guitar Hero".

According to Edsel Dope, all of those things got topped when he learned that Dope's cult classic song "Die Mother F*cker Die" was on a short list of songs actually used by the US military to interrogate Iraqi P.O.W's. Yes, the success and growth of Dope is complex and impressive and on their new album, appropriately titled "No Regret" (out on 10th March 2009), Dope continues to show a plethora of reasons that their fans keep coming back for another fix. - more on this story
