Lucero's Ben Nichols Solo Release and Shows
PR reports: Lucero frontman Ben Nichols released his highly anticipated solo debut album this week, a "mini-LP" titled "The Last Pale Light in the West," via Liberty & Lament / The Rebel Group.

Nichols layed down tracks in August 2008 with Rick Steff (Cat Power, Lucero) and Todd Beane (Glossary) for this seven track mini-LP, which features songs inspired by the Cormac McCarthy book "Blood Meridian."

"The Last Pale Light in the West" is a stripped-down piece with Nichols' gritty vocals at the forefront. Nichols added acoustic guitar to the record, alongside Steff on piano and accordion, and Beane's pedal steel guitar. - more on this story

Flatfoot 56 Begin New Album
PR reports: Chicago's Celtic-punk outfit Flatfoot 56 will enter Absolute Sound in Houston, Texas on February 1st to begin the recording process for their highly anticipated new album, due out later this year.

The as-yet untitled full-length will arrive as the follow-up to the band's critically lauded 2007 release, Jungle Of The Midwest Sea. Johnny Rioux of Street Dogs will take the helm as the album's producer and engineer.

Throughout their eight-year history, Flatfoot 56 have consistently delivered an eclectic mix of punk and folk-tinged hardcore to audiences across the globe. Since releasing Jungle Of The Midwest Sea on Flicker Records, the boys relentlessly toured the world over both as openers and headliners, sealing their reputation as one of the most exciting, prolific, and energetic bands on the scene today. Over the last 2 years, the band has also continuously written new material, compiling dozens of songs to choose from for the upcoming album. Though they are considering offers, Flatfoot 56 have yet to decide on a label for the album's release. - more on this story

Cemetery of Scream Set Release
PR reports: Metal Mind Productions set the release date for Cemetery of Scream's newest offering entitled "Frozen Images" on 2nd February 2009 in Europe and 10th March 2009 in USA (via MVD).

One of the most intriguing bands on Polish atmospheric dark metal scene returns with a new, disturbing album.... Cemetery of Scream's newest offering entitled "Frozen Images" constitutes a unique and innovative work, on which the new vocalist, Olaf Rσżański, leaves his ice-cold fingerprints.

The album has a very different character than the band's previous releases while still maintaining the ethereal style of their music, which fluently shifts between the worlds of reality and fiction. The lyrics, mysterious and symbolic, ranging from the themes of vampires and ancient rituals to Lewis Carroll-style conundrums, for once more confirm that this band is really not afraid to look into the darkest nooks and crannies of the human soul. - more on this story

Monday Laughs
antiMusic reports: Monday's suck so let's forget about today's worries, step outside of music for a moment for a little bit of humor. With that said, here is your Monday laugh: A blonde calls her boyfriend and says, 'Please come over here and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can't figure out how to get started.' Her boyfriend asks, 'What is it supposed to be when it's finished?' The blonde says, 'According to the picture on the box, it's a rooster.' Her boyfriend decides to go over and help with the puzzle.

She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over the table. He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says, 'First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a rooster.'

He takes her hand and says, 'Second, I want you to relax. Let's have a nice cup of tea, and then ..' he said with a deep sigh, ........... 'Let's put all the Corn Flakes back in the box.' -

After the success of KISS, Casablanca signed another visually-exciting group called Angel in the mid '70s. The band created a stir with their first few records and were to be the angelic antithesis of the darker KISS. (4 stars) - Read the full Angel - On Earth As It Is In Heaven review
