Metallica To Time Warp On TV
Blabbermouth reports: Metallica will be featured on the April 29 episode of Discovery Channel's series "Time Warp", in which MIT scientist and teacher Jeff Lieberman — along with digital-imaging expert Matt Kearney — uses new technologies to bring truly never-before-seen wonders into a form that your body can actually process.

Using the latest in high-speed photography, the "Time Warp" team takes some natural events (a cat licking its paw, a champagne bottle being opened) — and some not-so-natural (a water balloon to the face, a raw piece of chicken exploding) — and turns them into a thing of both beauty and learning.

Commented Metallica in a statement: "Want to see what really happens while we're playing? Discovery Channel's 'Time Warp' came to HQ [Metallica's headquarters in San Rafael, north of San Francisco] about a month ago with their high-speed cameras to film us in action and the results air on Wednesday, April 29 at 8:00 p.m - more including photos and a link to a preview clip

Metal Star Caught In Drive-By Shooting Crossfire
antiMusic reports: Nachtmystium guitarist Jeff Wilson found himself in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting last week. Blabbermouth posted the band's statement about the incident, "Last Friday (April 17) at about 5:30 - 6:00 p.m., Jeff Wilson left his apartment building here in Chicago (that Blake also has an apartment in) to head two blocks away to our neighborhood grocery store.

"On his way out, walking back down the small side street right near our building….an SUV comes flying around the corner of a small side street just south of where he was walking, two men hung out of the window and opened fire in Jeff's general direction (and many other people, including children…) towards someone located behind where Jeff was walking.

"Fortunately, Jeff's amazing ninja-style, bullet-dodging skills kicked in, instinctively, and he some how managed to escape what became a crossfire of bullets and made it home safely with his smokes and a 2 liter of Diet Coke. Although the Diet Coke was tempting to Jeff, as he was out of breath and parched with thirst after running his ass off from the onslaught of violence, Jeff opted for a can (or twelve) of High Life that he found in the fridge….and then enjoyed one of his cigarettes, which he fought for his life to have. This, dear fans, is just one more example — smoking kills!!" - Now that he has a new lease on life he and the band are hitting the road, find out with who.

That's not all the band is currently working on. In addition to tinkering around with songwriting ideas for its next Christmas single, the percussionist admits there have been internal discussions about the long-rumored Killers covers album

Alexisonfire Set Summer Release
Vagrant reports: Alexisonfire have announced they'll release their fourth studio album Old Crows/Young Cardinals June 23 on Vagrant Records.

For the new album, the St. Catharines, Ontario-based rock group re-teamed with Julius "Juice" Butty (Protest the Hero, City and Colour) to produce. Even more intense and focused than before, the sound here is bracingly rhythmic, shot through with a do-or-die vocal urgency and sharp harmonies.

"Old Crows/Young Cardinals was built on the foundation of Crisis, musically it moves at a feverish pace," explains singer Pettit. "The lyrics span from metaphysical rebellion, to living as a nomad. This album is the culmination of the history of our band. Personally, I feel it is our best record yet, but you get to be the judge of that."

Singled Out: Into the Presence (Primus, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer)
antiMusic reports: Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Luis Maldonado the vocalist/guitarist of Into the Presence, the new duo that features Luis' partner in crime Tim Alexander (Primus, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer), gives us an in-depth look at the band's first single "End Game" from their brand new album self-titled debut which hits stores next Tuesday (4/28). A lot went into the recording of this track and Luis gives us the lowdown on how it all came together:

When we first began recording the INTO THE PRESENCE album we decided to record on the analog tape format. We experimented with tape speeds from 30ips to 15ips.
With 30ips we discovered a cleaner and tighter sound image, with "shiny" highs and tight low end that did not give us the effect we were looking for. We felt the drums sounded a little un-natural and stiff. The cymbals sounded slightly artificial. The guitars however were ok. With 15ips tape speed we quickly discovered the "meat" of what we were looking for in the sound. Tim's drums sounded large and natural, not quite as tight but big in the tone department. The guitars as well seemed to thicken up. The bass was a little tricky to control. With 30ips the bass guitar stayed tight and the notes had good clarity. With 15ips the bass guitar seemed to get a little "loose" and so we had to balance it with the right eq's. We decide not to go direct and ran the bass guitar though a Hiwatt tube amp and cab mic'd. It gave us the perfect balance we needed.

After deciding the tape speed we were able to continue the recording process with few adjustments. We started recording "End Game" by laying a basic click track on the last channel of the 2inch machine. After that I would begin to lay a simple scratch guitar track as a guide for the song. The following became a series of writing actual parts and setting the "mood" for what the type of music we wanted to create. We knew that we did not want to write typical parts. Tim was adamant in not playing a typical 4/4 drum beat. In recording the drums we used a custom made TAMA Starclassic made for Tim with concert Toms and no front head for the Kick drum. It gave us a very huge, open sounding drum sound while still retaining the tone. The attack was very cannon like but at the same time able to get the subtle nuances of his playing. The drums unique sound helped with the creation of the unique drums beats we agreed to. And unique was what we were after. - Luis is just getting started, read the rest of this song story here
