Reuters reports: War has broken out among the original members of Jane's Addiction, who are gearing up for their first tour in almost 18 years. Singer Perry Farrell told Reuters that a mediation attempt by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, with whom Jane's Addiction will tour next month, was unsuccessful. But despite the temper tantrums, Farrell is determined to keep Jane's Addiction together. He, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Steven Perkins have toured on and off over the years. Bassist Eric Avery is back in the lineup after declining to play with the band after it first broke up in 1991. His return appears to have changed the delicate chemistry. "I'm not going to tell you it's been all smooches and hugs. But it shouldn't be because that would be a bore," Farrell said on the sidelines of the Coachella music festival, where he was scheduled to perform on Sunday.

Hecklerspray reports: One of this year's Coachella performers was Morrissey - a man so removed of happiness that a trip to a furniture shop, a stint watching paint dry and a visit to a cemetery bring more joy than an hour of his company. The much-publicised vegetarian got slightly pissy during his Friday slot as his nostrils sniffed the odour of burgers and other meaty delights. Of course he didn't keep his opinions to himself.During his performance at Coachella, Morrissey's passion for spreading the joy of non-meat based products came out in force. Whilst we badly wanted him to be dressed as a giant stick of celery, handing out leaflets and confusing drugged up hippies, he didn't. NME reports that midway through the set, Morrissey said: "I can smell burning flesh and I hope to God it's human," as the smell of barbecued meat from nearby food stands wafted through the air. A few minutes later, the famous vegetarian walked off the stage in the middle of 'Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others'. He returned shortly afterward, saying, "The smell of burning animals is making me sick. I just couldn't bear it."

MusicRadar reports: It's always been hard for original bands to get noticed (and make a few bucks in the process) , but with people scaling back because of the economy, it might be even harder than ever. However, the Chicago-based band Yakuza (Prosthetic Records) have figured out the best way to play music and rake in some dough - play in a tribute band. A Led Zeppelin tribute band, to be exact."That's the moneymaker for me," Yakuza singer-saxophonist Bruce Lamont told the Chicago Tribune, referring to his side band called Led Zeppelin 2. "We played House of Blues in January and sold out. Now House of Blues and Live Nation are all about the band, and they booked other shows for us." "The money is coming in, but I'm not spending it on a Corvette, I'm funneling it into the six other bands I need to feed."

antiMusic reports: UFO's new studio album "The Visitor" is set to hit stores 06/02/2009 and the band has announce their initial tour dates behind the effort. Here is what their label SPV sent over about the album and tour: UFO composed more than 35 new tracks in the run-up to the recordings, 13 of which were short-listed and produced at the studio. The current lineup continues to consist of the three original members, Phil Mogg (vocals), Paul Raymond (guitar, keyboards), and Andy Parker (drums), as well as American world-class guitarist Vinnie Moore. Bass legend and original member Pete Way is currently suffering from a liver disease and was unfortunately not available for the studio production. "All those who have been into UFO for a long time will find all our characteristic trademarks on 'The Visitor', and anybody new to the band will be impressed by our enthusiasm and dynamism," frontman Phil Mogg enthuses on the subject of the new songs. "The Visitor" sees the band benefiting especially from their collaboration with Vinnie Moore, who joined UFO in autumn 2003 and has made an excellent impression on the albums "You Are Here" (2004) and "The Monkey Puzzle" (2006), and on the band's tours. Mogg says,"Without running down previous UFO lineups, it's been a long time since we had a team as strong as this one. Vinnie contributes his youthful energy and amazing guitar technique, and in Andy's return we've seen the reappearance of a musician who has always been very important to the band's original sound."

antiMusic reports: It was 40 years ago today that Jimi Hendrix entered the studio to record one of his most famous songs: "Room Full of Mirrors" Obviously we couldn't ask Jimi to tell us the story of this song but we are lucky enough to hear from Hendrix expert John McDermott, bassist Billy Cox, and legendary producer Eddie Kramer who was the sound engineer for Hendrix. They recently teamed up for pen "Ultimate Hendrix: An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Live Concerts and Sessions," a new book that is a wet dream for any Hendrix fan looking for the inside story to their favorite songs and Hendrix performances. Backbeat Books was kind enough to send us an excerpt of the book which deals with this historic date and the recording of iconic "Room Full of Mirrors". Here it is!Record Plant, New York, New York. Engineer: Gary Kellgren.: When Cox arrived in New York to meet Hendrix, he realized that Hendrix's problems were not entirely musical. "Jimi had told me all of these fabulous stories about how a limousine would pick me up at the airport, and I believed all this of course," Cox explains. "Nobody from the office, however, was there to pick me up. That's when I started to realize that Jimi wanted me here, but the office didn't seem so sure. At that point, I knew it was going to be a battle from there on." Following Cox's arrival, Hendrix revealed some troubling news to his friend. "When I arrived in New York, Jimi sat me down and admitted that his creativity had drawn dry," Cox recalls. "He just felt that he couldn't think of anything new." By reaching out to Cox, Hendrix may have been trying to find his musical compass, someone who might allow himprivatelyto examine just where and how he had veered off the track. "With me, Jimi knew that I had a direct link to him musically," says Cox. "He knew that I was familiar with his style, sound, and creativity. I hadn't played with him in a long while, but when I first heard 'Foxey Lady,' I knew that to be an old song of his we used to call 'Stomp Driver' in Nashville. Jimi's creativity had been stifled, and I guess he thought of me because even in the early days we had always been able to make up stuff. We enjoyed doing that, but we could never use any of it because our living depended upon playing cover tunes or behind an artist who had already recorded his own songs. Jimi must have felt that I could help him pull all of the pieces of ideas that he had together into something as good as those three albums he had released."
