Portugal. The Man Week: Final Day
antiMusic reports: Alaska rocker's Portugal return to record stores this week with their third album 'Censored Colors,' which promises to take them from underground heroes to the mainstream of the rock world with their incredible sound which takes us back to the day when it was "the music stupid" and not just image that made rockstars. To celebrate the release we asked the band's newest member Ryan Neighbors to pick his favorite tracks from the album and tell us a little bit about each one. Here is Ryan with today's song:

Never Pleased - I think what draws me to this song is the simplicity. It is very on point. The entire song revolves around two riffs going back and forth but they flow into each other in such a way that the verse and chorus feel like one. In fact, I don't even know which is the verse and which is the chorus. I guess I just like that in a song.

This was another one we were doing acoustic demos for and once we plugged in and started recording it became a completely different song. We borrowed an organ from the church Phil works at and I had a good time with that. Very full. John did some sassy vocals on this song as will. Showing some attitude. I look forward to playing it live.

Wanna hear what it's all about? You can do that plus grab tour dates, learn more about the band and their new album and more - right here!

McCartney Ignoring Terrorist Threat
Hecklerspray reports: Paul McCartney's concert in Israel next week could be his last, and not because he'll soil himself getting to the high note in Hey Jude and retire out of shame.

No, instead, the concert in Israel could be Paul McCartney's last because a gang of Islamic extremists are running around telling everyone that they're going to kill him if he follows through with his plan to play there.

Paul McCartney has refused to cancel his concert in Israel, despite threats from Islamic militants, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported. The response follows comments made by Omar Bakri Muhammad, a militant Lebanese Islamic activist, in an interview. Mr. Bakri said, "If he values his life, Mr. McCartney must not come to Israel… He will not be safe there. The sacrifice operatives will be waiting for him. - more on this story

Spice Girls Reunion Better Than Led Zeppelin's
antiMusic reports: You know how we always make fun of pointless awards? There is a reason for this beyond the fact that they are pointless, they are also usually pretty damn clueless. The Vodafone Live Music Awards are a perfect case in point. The BBC tells us why:

The Spice Girls have beaten Led Zeppelin to an award for the best music reunion of the last 12 months. The girl group won best live return at the Vodafone Live Music Awards after getting back together for a world tour.

It was judged to have been better than the one-off comeback by rock legends Led Zeppelin, with The Verve and James also nominated. - more on this story

Band Say Goodbye To Fallen Member
Lambgoat reports: Former The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower bassist Willy Graves passed away on Sunday. The remaining members of the now-defunct group have issued the following statement:

"As I'm sure many of you have already heard, our dear friend Willy Graves passed away Sunday, September 14th. During our years together, we felt more like a family or a gang than we did a band. Every high and every low we experienced together. Willy brought so much to our band artistically, aesthetically, and in terms of general morale.

"When the going got tough (and believe me, things would get fucking rough), we could always count on Willy to be the eternal optimist. Whether we were getting beat up in Salt Lake City, having our tires slashed in Baltimore, or getting pint glasses heaved at us in Wellington, NZ, we could always count on Willy to crack a joke or act silly to distract us from the lows. Same goes for all the highs we experienced together." - more on this story

Spiritualized Announce MySpace Secret Show
Myspace reports: Spiritualized will be playing a club show at The Echo in Los Angeles on September 19 as part of MySpace's Secret Show series.

Two days prior the band will be playing the massive Hollywood Bowl, and The Echo is by far the most intimate show the band is playing this year. The Secret Show is a free, exclusive performance for the MySpace community.

Spiritualized released their long awaited sixth album, Songs in A & E this past Spring. Serious illness struck Spiritualized frontman and songwriter Jason Pierce - aka J. Spaceman in 2005, and his time spent in intensive care interrupted the completion of the recording, but inevitably perhaps, the setback turned into an inspiration as critics and fans alike have recognized the album not only to be one of the band's best work, but its most personal too. Pitchfork said of the new album that it was "Spiritualized's best work in ten years." Pierce recently wrote and recorded the soundtrack to the new film, Mr. Lonely, directed by Harmony Korine (Julian Donkey-Boy and Gummo). - more on the band

Medeski Martin & Wood Launch The Radiolarian Series
PR reports: Medeski Martin & Wood have never been your typical band. Creativity has led their career and their music always stays unique. Now, the restlessly inventive improvising trio Medeski Martin & Wood are set to embark on an ingenious new experiment dubbed The Radiolarian Series.

The Radiolarian Series - named after a type of single-celled organism with dazzlingly intricate exoskeletons - is designed to subvert the age-old music industry cycle of write/record/tour. The trio, consisting of keyboardist John Medeski, drummer Billy Martin, and bassist Chris Wood, will convene for brief writing retreats, perform only that new material on tour, record the material immediately after getting off the road, and release it as an album on their own Indirecto label.

The process will be repeated three times, resulting in three albums - the first of which, Radiolarians I, will be in stores on September 30th. - more on this story

Singled Out: Theresa Andersson's Birds Fly Away
antiMusic reports: Welcome to Singled Out where artists give us the inside story to their latest single. Today we hear from Theresa Andersson and she tells us about her song "Birds Fly Away," off her latest album "Hummingbird Go!" Here is Theresa:

This song started while digging through my New Orleans LP collection. I listened to Smokey Johnson (legendary drummer) and found a funky drum sample from the song "I can't help it". I made a loop from the sample and began to play around with chords and melodies. I ended up finding inspiration while strumming my 6 string mountain dulcimer which lends itself well to simple chord structures.

While I kept the strumming very straight forward I let the melody bounce around playfully with the beat. I was just singing la la la's and nonsense words to find the melody. Once I liked what I had I fleshed it out with some violin plucking and reverberated falsetto melody lines. I used my garage band to find a form and play around with the arrangement ideas.

At some point when the song had found a definite shape and sound I passed it onto my friend and poet Jessica Faust to write the lyrics. My idea was to give her the music pretty much done so that it would inspire the right mood for words. Of course this verse melody was challenging because of it's distinct rhythm. Somehow Jessica penned the most perfect lyrics that makes me feel like I am transported onto that New Orleans mid-city front porch stoop when I sing about it.

The chorus speaks of choices we've made and continue to make, who we are as a people. "Birds fly away-seek shelter. Trees stand strong-don't falter". They're both right. It just depends on your personality.

Check out Theresa's Myspace to preview songs, learn more about her and her new album. It's all right - here!
