Bitter:Sweet Tour
PR reports: Los Angeles-based duo Bitter:Sweet will kick off their summer tour on July 18 at the El Rey. The band will perform material from their sophomore album Drama (released in June from Quango via Fontana/Universal) which includes a bonus version of the powerfully emotive title track featuring System of a Down's Serj Tankian. Earlier this month, Bitter:Sweet performed live on KCRW'S "Morning Becomes Eclectic" with Nic Harcourt.

Drama is a richly textured exploration that pushes Bitter:Sweet in new sonic directions, while retaining the lovable rhythms and hooks that brought them to the forefront of electronic music. The album includes the jazzy, dark "Drink You Sober," the dream-like voyage of "A Moment," the intense, luscious hook of "Waking Up," and the quirky, spy themed "Trouble." Drama's meticulous production and impeccable songwriting highlight Shana Halligan's dexterous and impassioned vocal capabilities and Kiran Shahani's keen ear for cadence and production. - more on this story

Buddy Guy Album and Tour Coming
PR reports: We told you about this a month ago but to refresh your memory here is an update: Buddy Guy's new lp, Skin Deep, comprised of all original material and including fellow guitar luminaries Eric Clapton, Robert Randolph, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, will be released on July 22 by Jive/SIlvertone.

Elaborating on his inspiration for the album title and song Skin Deep, Guy touches upon a powerful series of personal memories and observations on the ways in which "underneath" we're all the same. "I used to play with this boy, ride horses, down close to where I was born," he says. "Then when we were 13, his parents made us stop. They used to say you had black blood or white blood, but we'd get a flashlight and hold it up to our skin and we'd just see red blood. That's what I mean by 'Skin Deep.'

Buddy Guy will be honored at a special tribute concert on July 20th in Millennium Park for his "outstanding contributions to popular music and American culture." But you can catch him on tour this summer!
