Paper Rival Week: Day 1 "Dialog"
antiMusic reports: Paper Rival's debut album "Dialog" just hit stores. The band's rootsy indie rock has been winning them fans and critical praise and caught our attention, so we asked frontman Jacob Rolleston to tell us a little about his favorite tracks from the new CD. Here is Jacob with today's song:

"Cassandra" - This song is actually about my constant negativity and unwillingness to stay in one place. Most people think it's about a girl but "Cassandra" is actually the name of a nay sayer or prophet of doom in a lot of old Greek and Roman folklore.

The recording process for this was a lot different because none of us thought it would make the record right up until it was completely recorded. - check out streams from the new album, plus grab tour dates here

Kid Rock Hospitalized
E! reports: Minutes before he was to hit the stage, Kid Rock pulled out of a performance in England Friday afternoon and was rushed to a hospital and treated for dehydration.

The 37-year-old rocker was scheduled to play at the Download Festival, a three-day British music concert that also featured Judas Priest, Incubus and The Offspring.

At the last minute, announcers told the audience that Kid Rock was unwell and wouldn't perform. - more on this story

Metallica Mystery Solved
Blabbermouth reports: It's good to be right. Last week we made a guess that the "mysterious" images appearing on Metallica's website was their way of revealing the name of their new album. That's exactly what it was. And the joke about Magnetica wasn't too far off either. We'll resist the temptation to joke about the title since it's a step-up from St. Anger.

Blabbermouth has more: Metallica has announced the title of its new album — "Death Magnetic" — by posting the finalized/complete version of the image that originally appeared on the band's official web site on Tuesday (June 10) under the headline "???."

The CD is due out in September. A short video clip revealing the new album title and featuring an audio sample of a brand new song can be viewed - here

The Sh*t Hits The Band, Waters Hasn't Ruled out Pink Floyd Reunion, Gene Rules Out Full KISS Reunion, Coldplay Tops, Macca Knocks Out Ukraine Girls and more
antiMusic reports: Sorry for the abridged version of the Day in Rock today. We'll return with a full report for Tuesday. But with that said, let's get on with today's quicks!: Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme called out an audience member last week (Friday, June 13) for allegedly "throwing shit" at him during Queens' performance at the Norwegian Wood festival in Oslo, Norway. The entire incident was captured on video by NRK Lydverket and can be viewed here

Pink Floyd's David Gilmour has suggested the original members of the band could get together for another one-off gig in the future. However, the singer and guitarist claimed that a full tour was unlikely. read his comments

Kiss star Gene Simmons has ruled out ever inviting former bandmates Peter Criss and Ace Frehley back onstage with him - because they're not fit enough to cut it live. Criss and Frehley joined Simmons and frontman Paul Stanley in three separate Kiss incarnations, but the bass player insists they won't be back for a third reunion run. more

Sir Paul McCartney has performed in front of tens of thousands of people in the Ukrainian capital Kiev. The former Beatle braved thunder, lightning and torrential rain to perform his first concert in the former Soviet republic. Sir Paul sang a range of Beatles classics and solo material during his two-and-a-half hour set.

Hopefully the Doggfather has some pull at the station. Snoop's wife, Shante Taylor Broadus, was arrested at 12:15 AM PT Saturday morning in Fullerton, Ca. for driving under the influence.

Coldplay have shot straight to the top of the UK albums chart - despite their record having been on sale for just three days. The band's fourth album, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, has sold 302,000 copies since Thursday. more

Doubtful anyone that visits this site would be interested in this but just in case some undiscerning people happened upon the site: On Tuesday June 24th, join Melissa Reyes of "The Search For The Next Pussycat Doll" fame with Demi Lovato of the Jonas Brothers movie "Camp Rock" at The Crazy Donkey in Farmingdale, NY; doors open at 6pm.

MySpace says it will undergo a major site redesign beginning next week, including a new splash page, search functions, profile editor and overall site navigation. The much-heralded MySpace Music service will not go live as part of the June 18 redesign BUT

Fresh from the news that she cancelled her forthcoming UK tour, MIA called her performance at Bonnaroo her "last show ever" at the weekend (June 13). - more

Band Yanked Off Stage At Music Festival
BW&BK reports: The Wildhearts were dramatically pulled offstage at Download Festival today (Sunday, June 15). The veteran British rockers' set was cut short after an apparently good-natured festival bottling got out of hand.

Towards the end of a rowdy show which saw frontman Ginger bantering with the crowd throughout, the rocker began to complain about the lack of objects being thrown forward, chastizing the crowd by saying, "is that all you've got to throw?"

However, the audience took this as encouragement, and a torrent of objects began to come forward. When a sharp object landed at the barrier, the song "29 x The Pain" was stopped in its tracks and the band were removed from the stage. - more on this story

Pearl Jam Thrills and Kayne Pisses Crowd Off
antiMusic reports: What do Pearl Jam and Kanye West have in common? We can't find one thing. One has long term credibility and a strong measure of integrity, the other has a big ego. One has created at least one album that will go down in history as a classic long after any hype has died down, the other has a big ego. One blew fans away by adding an extra hour to their two hour set at a music festival this past weekend, the other delayed his performance at a music festival this past weekend by two hours so his big ego sized stage could be set up. Guess you have to use "frills" when your music is too vapid to sustain a concert all on its own.

Here are some quick reports about both from AP: Pearl Jam wowed the Bonnaroo crowd with a three-hour performance late Saturday, returning the band to the grand stage of a music festival. In the midst of their concert — which went almost an hour longer than scheduled — lead singer Eddie Vedder acknowledged that the band thought they might never again play such a show — and "with good reason." read about that and more about this performance

Kanye West's late night performance at Bonnaroo was delayed nearly two hours, angering the festival crowd who responded by chanting "Kanye sucks" and pelting the empty stage with glow sticks. The delay was caused by problems setting up West's elaborate stage set, which included an interplanetary landscape of a wavy black platform with a slanted floor in the middle and a video screen above. - Read more about Con Ya's delayed performance

Did You Know That Jim Morrison & Michael Hutchence Were Brothers?
antiMusic reports: Jim Morrison & Michael Hutchence are speaking from their graves, at least that what a new book claims. We were sent the following press release, but what we really want to know is if these psychics can send us some winning lottery numbers. While you're at it, ask John Lennon is the walrus was really Paul or if it just rhymed. Here is the PR: In her new book, "A Tale of Two Brothers: Jim Morrison & Michael Hutchence"
Jacqueline Murray shares very detailed accounts of the lives and deaths of two of the most charismatic front men in music history. At 732 pages, it's hard to imagine anyone's imagination or eye for detail could be so strong as to author such a book without genuine spirit communication.

In Volume One, "Renaissance Man (The Memoirs of Jim Morrison),"revelations are made about how Jim Morrison of the Door's really died on in the summer of 1971, how he struggled to stay alive and why he was later placed in a bathtub. Learn of the dark secret that caused Jim Morrison to downward spiral into hardcore alcoholism and tore this genius apart from the inside out. Learn what some of the true inspiration was for Morrison's songs and how he views the Door's legacy from the other side.

In Volume Two "Chilled Divine ((The True Essence of Michael Hutchence)," Michael Hutchence (lead singer of INXS) seems to want to end the controversy over his tragic death. Michael also reveals his disdain for reality show "Rock Star" and how INXS sought a replacement for him. Michael's legacy of pain in his final days, his missing millions and his tortured relationship with Paula Yates are revealed in this chilling volume.

Bonham Hoping for Led Zeppelin Tour
antiMusic reports: Last week Jimmy Page told the Telegraph.co.uk that the band were ready to reunite and perform more live events. And now Jason Bonham has spoken out about the possibility of finishing what he helped start with his father's former bandmates last year at the one-off reunion show.

Blabbermouth has the story: Since the concert, rumors have been rife as to whether the band will announce any more shows. Speaking to the BBC, Bonham said: "It's up to them but if it was up to me, I'd love to."

Bonham, who said the reunion show was "better than I could have imagined," said he hoped to be "put into the loop" regarding more shows. "My fingers are crossed and I would do it in a heartbeat," he said.

R. Kelly Jurors Explain Verdict
TMZ reports: Even though jurors in the trial of R. Kelly absolutely believed it was him on the tape, they could not reach a guilty verdict because they said there was "not enough evidence to prosecute." Huh?!

Five of the twelve jurors met with reporters immediately after handing down the acquittal. They said that as recently as this morning, the vote was split nine to three for a not guilty verdict, but that fell apart as they voted -- on the hour, every hour -- because the alleged victim hadn't testified and refused to cooperate.

The jurors also say they were absolutely disgusted with the tape. They said unlike the bootleg version you can buy on the street corner, what they saw was "clear as day." - more on this story

R. Kelly Not Guilty, Be Your Own Pet Slam Warped, Lil Wayne Selling Huge Numbers, Winehouse Replaced?
antiMusic reports: A couple of quick stories for you this Friday afternoon: R. Kelly was acquitted of all charges Friday after less than a day of deliberations in his child pornography trial, ending a six-year ordeal for the R&B superstar.more

The magic million is within sight of Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter III." The Cash Money/Universal album continues to lead Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart, released today (June 13). Based on the new tally, the album could sell a million copies by the time SoundScan closes out its tracking week on Sunday night. more

Leona Lewis is reportedly set to replace Amy Winehouse as the singer of the theme of the new James Bond movie. She is said to be in talks with the movie's producers to sing the theme for the 22nd Bond flick 'Quantum Of Solace'. more

Be Your Own Pet's frontwoman took a bit of a swipe at the Warped Tour and the bands that play it. Here it is: I just associate it with a certain look and a certain style and the kind of kids at school that I thought were-- this is really bad, I'm sure-- the kind of kids that were dumbasses wearing Rancid t-shirts who thought they knew what punk rock was and threw things at people in the cafeteria.

So it's like, okay, now we're going to be performing for these people. Our label is under the impression that we're going to play one date and then automatically sell 100,000 more records. All those bands have this very specific look and sound and style. It's like the new hair metal or something. There are like 10 different rules about how you write a song and what everything sounds like and looks like. - Find out how their major label censored their album

Stone Temple Pilots Respond To Lawsuit
antiMusic reports: Stone Temple Pilots issued the following statement responding to the lawsuit filed by Atlantic Records: Stone Temple Pilots were deeply disappointed to see that Atlantic filed a surprise lawsuit against two members of the legendary band STP when they were in the middle of what were believed to be cordial and positive discussions about STP returning to the studio to make a new album after 5 years.

Despite the allegations in the complaint, the band never threatened anything more than remaining away from the studio until equitable terms could be arranged. The precipitous filing of this action is yet another example of the difficulties facing artists in the new music environment, as relationships between artists and their labels fall further and further apart.

Eric and Scott have not yet been served and hope that Atlantic will allow cooler heads to prevail, and have the courtesy of shelving this action to permit negotiations to continue in a positive spirit rather than under a dark cloud of hostility. Should everyone operate in good faith, STP are certain that a new album from the band will be available soon. Should Atlantic instead pursue this scorched earth policy towards the band, the ultimate victims will be STP's fans, who will never be able to enjoy a new album from the group.
