antiMusic reports: Sister Hazel will be releasing, "Before The Amplifiers, Live Acoustic," a new live acoustic album next week. The CD features the band's hits, fan favorites, and live concert staples. To celebrate the release we asked frontman Ken Block to tell us about his five favorite tracks from the CD. Here is Ken with today's song:"World Inside My Head": I actually wrote this song with Richard Marx at his house outside Chicago. It was right before I got clean and Sober and I had some heavy thoughts bouncing around in my head. I was feeling pretty disconnected, misunderstood and I was isolating a bit. I told him I wanted to write a song that was kind of an "Ode To Oddness".... Some of my favorite lines that I've ever been a part of are in this song -- Like, "Watch the sunrise - like it's a big surprise" and "Strange is just a different point of view"... antiMusic reports: It's not just the less than favorable reviews of their live return that might have members of Stone Temple Pilots now regretting their decision to reunite, it's the fact that their label now expects the band to live up to their recording contract and deliver new music to them. Yup, Weiland's heading back to court.Atlantic Records filed a lawsuit on Thursday against frontman Scott Weiland and drummer Eric Kretz after the two allegedly "threatened to stop performing under their contract and have indicated they would like to end the agreement unless Atlantic makes significant changes," according to Reuters. It's unclear from the report, but it appears that the band's contract with Atlantic calls for giving the label the option on up-to three additional albums from the band. They claim that the contract was "written under New York laws and that the musicians are trying to use California laws to terminate it."

antiMusic reports: If you are one of those guys that have a secret desire to hook-up with Ashanti. Aside from not having a snowball's chance in hell of realizing that dream, you might want to watch her latest video, it could change your mind altogether. Her label pulled the clip for her single, "The Way That I Love You," after the violent blood filed video sparked protest. Imagine that. Billboard reports: The clip features a scorned lover, played by Ashanti, who gets revenge on her cheating boyfriend by stabbing him to death. A murder scene with the boyfriend's body in a tub and a bloody knife are among the images featured in it. A separate promotional video includes a fake news reports about a killing spree allegedly inspired by Ashanti's love crime, as well as bloody walls with the words "black children will die" smeared on them.

antiMusic reports: What follows is a strong argument on why we need to put chlorine in the gene pool. Litigious stupidity knows no bounds and reaches a new low with a new lawsuit filed against Jay-Z. You won't believe the claim! Here is TMZ with the highlights:Jigga what? A guy wants $88 million bucks out of Jay-Z not for a lyric he jacked, or a sample he stole -- but for stealing that ultra-exclusive technique of ... rapping in a low whisper. We're not kidding: Mitchell Rose, who tells us he's a boxer/lawyer/rapper, has filed suit in Brooklyn alleging that he created the technique of "whisper rapping." Rose says that Hova subsequently adopted the technique without properly crediting him -- and now he wants to get paid!

antiMusic reports: Metallica addressed the controversy over their management asking critics to removed reviews (most were positive) of previews they were given of the band's forthcoming album. In a post to their official site they say it all came down to a management error. Here is what they had to say: While we occasionally enjoy reading the various comments, rumors, speculation, reviews, gossip and all the good that the internet brings, rarely do we feel the desire/need to respond to the "blogosphere" . . . hey, everyone is entitled to have their thoughts and opinions, right? However, once we re-surfaced on Tuesday after a few weeks on tour in Europe, we were informed that someone at Q Prime (our managers) had made the error of asking a few publications to take down reviews of the rough mixes from the new record that were posted on their sites. Our response was "WHY?!!! Why take down mostly positive reviews of the new material and prevent people from getting psyched about the next record. . . that makes no sense to us!"" So after a few rounds of managerial ear spank and sentencing everyone at Q Prime to 20 push-ups each, we figured why not take matters into our own hands and just post the links here on our site. Kerrang, Metal Hammer, The Quietus. You see, we have maintained an "in the press" section here on Metallica.com for many years now, posting links to reviews of shows, album and DVD releases, and various other tidbits we've come across while surfing around. Some good, some not so good, but we put 'em all up . . . sort of the same way we treat our message boards on this site . . . welcoming all feedback.

antiMusic reports: Not going to Bonnaroo? Then why not experience this weekend's music festival vicariously through Lonn Friend? With all the inside stories etc, it might actually be better than being there! Aside from being the famed editor of Rip Magazine, MTV personality, syndicated radio show host, the man that actually tried to get Clive Davis to sign rock bands, and acclaimed author of "Life on Planet Rock," (not to mention an antiMusic contributor), you'll find Lonn's distinct writings in any number of publications these days. So when a metal magazine asked Lonn if he wanted to venture to the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee for a cover story on his old friends Metallica, he readily agreed. But we discover another reason why he made the trip from So Cal. In a special Lonnaroo blog Lonn created for this weekend's festival, where Lonn plans to update fans with views, reviews and inside stories on the happenings at the event, he tells us in his first entry: "But it ain't just the four horsemen of Bay Area thrash-turned global hard rock juggernaut that got me jazzed about the bountiful Bonnaroo '08. I'm also excited about reconnecting with old friends whose musical evolution I have also witnessed and enjoyed. The entities are scattered throughout the four-day festival, disparate deities of riff and word like Pearl Jam and Robert Plant, united with Allison Krauss and an old golfing buddy named T. Bone Burnett. Got a friend in Las Vegas who lives and dies for Widespread Panic yet I confess I've never had the live experience. My daughter is crazy about MGMT. Jack White does little wrong in my book so the Raconteurs are high on my list. I could go on and on but this is the debut entry so let me get back to the set up." That's just a small taste of what's already up there and what's to come.

antiMusic reports: If you haven't noticed, we absolutely love Gibson's site. While it's great for musicians, with tips, lessons and allows you to salivate over that sweet Les Paul you've been dreaming of buying, their decision to make the site a destination for music fans in general has succeeded. Once of our favorite features is their "lists," mostly because they come up with interesting topics not the same old "top guitar licks" etc, etc. They published such a list this week that caught our eye. They researched some of the most notorious rock cults. We're talking real cults, not insane fans of karaoke singers from TV contests. While the lead off cult in their article, the Manson Family, is widely known, we discovered a couple we hadn't heard of. Here is one of those: Circle One was the cult-like group that sprung up around Darby Crash and L.A.'s most notorious punk band, the Germs. Both Crash and guitarist Pat Smear met while attending an alternative high school with loose affiliations to scientology and a curriculum vaguely centered on methods of mind control. Crash took these lessons to heart and over the course of the band's lifespan attracted a large contingent of punk rock outcasts, disaffected teens, and runaways who followed Crash's every word. The mark of "Circle One," as they were dubbed, was a cigarette burn or "Germs Burn" as it's better known. The burn originated from Darby and you could only get a burn from someone who already had one.

PR reports: Beck's new album Modern Guilt, produced with Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton, will be released July 8th on DGC Records in North America and July 7 on XL Recordings in the UK and Europe. The new album contains 10 new songs, and with the exception of last year's Grammy-nominated, digital-only single "Timebomb", Modern Guilt is the first new material Beck has written since the prolific stretch that produced 2005's platinum Guero and 2006's universally acclaimed The Information. Modern Guilt is a tightly assembled group of songs that range in lyrical tone from introspection and social commentary to off the cuff wordplay and lighthearted humor. Musically, the album's ten tracks vacillate between economy and experimentation, hybrid and pop classicism, while consistently manifesting Beck and Danger Mouse's shared interest in psych-rock, folk, electronic minimalism and orchestration.

punknews.org reports: As rumoured for many months, the Canadian Minister of Industry Jim Prentice today introduced Bill C-61, which has been described as a "Canadian DMCA law," referring to the controversial American law that has seen academics, like Princeton's Edward Felten, unable to present research papers. The Canadian law notable includes anti-circumvention clause that will make it illegal to break digital locks on copyrighted material. The controversy arises from the fact that this anti-circumvention clause will override existing rights, so the "fair dealing" right to backup, copy, cite and analyze commercial works will be restricted at the whim of copyright holders. Moreover, mashups and satire will be criminalized by the bill if they "distort or mutilate a copyright performance."

The band issued the following statement on their website:We've spent the last year trying to write songs for a new album, planning to go into the studio this summer, unfortunately, after a lot of thought, we have had to make the difficult decision to postpone the recording indefinitely. We know everybody says that their new album is better than their last, but with us we really believed that. From day one we made it clear that we'd stop recording when we felt we'd written the ultimate Bolt Thrower album, we just never knew when that would be, we kind of took for granted that each release would get better and better. PR reports: Neal Morse has accomplished the almost unheard of in commercial music: After 15 years, 22 albums, 3 bands, and 4 concert DVDs, his last two albums (Sola Scriptura and Question) have been received as his best. Now, Morse and his new band bring both albums to the screen, live on 2 DVDS; plus over an hour of other great performances, and 100 minutes of behind-the-scene footage. Sola Scriptura was one of the most ambitious, controversial, and critically acclaimed progressive rock albums in recent memory. The album finds Morse unflinching in his depiction of corruption in the Church throughout history, and the consequences of humankind's attempts to elevate itself to God. Lauded equally in Europe and the United States by the mainstream and CCM press, the album adorned numerous "Best of 2007" lists. Question is a journey on the timeless quest to find the dwelling place of God. Lyrically, Neal creates a compelling story-line that owes as much to C.S. Lewis as Indiana Jones. Neal searches through history, within the nature of men, and across Neal's own life. The accolades range by genre from mainstream progressive rock (Dutch Prog Rock Pages, Netherlands: "Top 5 Albums of the Year"), to Contemporary Christian (Cross Rhythms, UK: "10 out of 10 stars"), to modern rock (The National Review Online, US: "Album of the Year"), to hardcore metal (Metal Glory, Germany: "10 out of 10 stars").

PR reports: On Saturday June 14th, George Jones and his 1957 Martin 000-18 acoustic guitar will reunite after 46 years of separation. In 1962, Jones and the guitar parted ways… but not on mutual terms. The guitar was stolen, by two boys looking to sell it for "beer money," from Jones while he performed a series of shows at Panther Hall in Ft. Worth, Texas. A short time after stealing the guitar from Jones, the two youngsters sold it to a man by the name of Larry Berry. The guitar, equipped with a strap that includes Jones' name bordered with streaks of "White Lightning," was sold to Berry for ten dollars. Now, almost 50 years later, the guitar will be returned to its rightful owner. Larry Berry recently contacted Tom Perryman of 104.1 "The Ranch" (KKUS-FM) in Tyler, Texas, in attempt to reach Jones regarding the stolen guitar. The attempt to contact Jones was successful.
