Chipster reports: Throughout the course of their career, Meliah Rage has refused to let line-up changes derail or silence the mighty metal quintet from Boston, Massachusetts. And the group continues to live by this rule, as they've just announced the re-entry of the group's original frontman, Mike Munro. After singer Paul Souza exited the band late last year, a six-month search for a suitable replacement began, which led to a dead end. That is, until producer Rich Spillberg suggested that they should contact Munro, and get back to their roots. After being out of Meliah Rage for over a decade, Munro is back for more, joining band mates Anthony Nichols (guitar), Jim Koury (guitar), Darren Lourie (bass), and Stu Dowie (drums). And in a twist of fate, the last Meliah Rage release to feature Munro, 'Death Valley Dream,' was recently remastered, with its release July 29th (yesterday) - coming right on the heels of the announcement of Munro's return.

PR reports: Keller Williams has built a career on his uncanny ability to captivate a packed house-all by himself. So why now, after fifteen-years as a solo artist, is he releasing a live album-simply titled, Live-with three other names on the cover? It turns out that since he first picked up a guitar, this troubadour has wanted to front a band. On Live (September 16, 2008 / SCI Fidelity Records), Keller taps into the world-class talent of Keith Moseley (bass - The String Cheese Incident), Gibb Droll (guitar - Marc Broussard, Brandi Carlile), and Jeff Sipe (drums - Aquarium Rescue Unit, Leftover Salmon). The musical horsepower of four friends playing together on stage proves stronger than even Keller had dreamed. Recorded at select live shows during a winter 2008 tour, and featuring seventeen tracks that span Keller's career, Live is a testament to how a band, with the right chemistry and chops, can take a song to places even the writer couldn't have imagined. "What a treat after so many years of being in control," Williams says. "The band has a knack for hanging a sharp left that I don't see coming." As the principal singer/songwriter, Keller may be driving this musical train, but he doesn't always know where it's headed. Williams puts unyielding faith in Moseley, Droll, and Sipe's ability to sustain the conversation. And, as with every live recording worth a damn, the audience is an integral part. On Live the crowd sizzles with energy; they know they're witnessing something special.

PR reports: Los Angeles-based power trio The Human Value announced today that they will be releasing their second CD, Push and Pull, in the U.S. on September 23, 2008, along with a limited edition LP. The LP (500 blue and 500 yellow vinyl) includes a free download card for a one-time digital download of Push and Pull and two additional bonus tracks not on the U.K. version (released Nov. of '07). The U.S. release is the first on lead singer Turu's newly-formed Pretty Mouth Records via Big Deal Records with distribution from Ryko/WEA. The Human Value (THV) is a power trio fronted by serpentine vocalist Turu, king of the fuzz-tone guitar Hiram Fleites (ex-Kittens for Christian) and whirling dervish drummer Tim Bolish. THV first made a name for themselves in England on their debut self-titled CD in winter of 2006.

PR reports: Brooklyn New York's Free Blood, a band formed in 2003 with influential roots in the art, fashion, and music circles originating there, are now ready to unleash their debut album courtesy of the new joint imprint between Rong Music and DFA Records. Free Blood group came to fruition when former !!! member John Pugh and fashion designer Madeline Davy (Octopi NYC) found common ground and much inspiration in a goal of uniting the divergent settings that host New York's dance and indie music: the Manhattan club scene (or an idealized version of what once was a scene) and the energized modern day bohemia of Brooklyn warehouse parties that have played host to many of their live sweat-soaked gigs. NYC and Brooklyn equally embody the spirit of the group their music is rooted in the leftfield enough to keep all who have followed them continually enthused, while the songs, with John and Madeline's vocals combined, are larger than life pop songs at heart, driven by rhythms bearing the sonic thump of the best new disco and modern R&B. You could boil it all down to an electronic rock act, but that tag misses the point completely. The Brothers, who also produced the record, have become part of the band now, a bass and drum rhythm section that has added a whole other side of what the band can accomplish live. They have recently completed a tour of the United States with Hot Chip and have managed to make it overseas to perform live several times in the UK. While there, the band performed on Radiohead / Beck producer Nigel Godrich's web & IFC music show "From The Basement".

The Lippin Group reports: Alive Records has announced the upcoming album release from Nebraska's 60's influenced garage and old school punks Brimstone Howl. The follow-up to their Dan Auerbach produced debut, the band enlisted Detroit's legendary producer Jim Diamond to man the boards for their sophomore effort, We Came in Peace, hitting stores September 2nd.Led by charismatic singer/songwriter John Ziegler and guitarist extraordinaire Nick Waggoner, with Calvin Retzlaff on drums, the boys traveled to Ghetto Recorders in Detroit for a very productive recording session with the legendary Jim Diamond (The Dirtbombs, The Hentchmen, The Sights, The White Stripes) . Described by NME as "Beatles-headed psych-nerds with a taste for razor sharp snake-rock, We Came in Peace is the follow-up to Guts Of Steel (Alive 2007) an album hailed as "unholy hot-wiring of the Sonics, the Damned and the Blues Explosion" (Magnet) and "cranked lo-fi blues rock from Nebraska's hoodlums" (Uncut). Despite its cryptic title We Came in Peace is another fun explosion of fuzz and American-gothic chit-chatter, with "weird fictional adventure stories, and beginner blues guitar lessons from mongoloids," as they like to describe it. The album is packed with great songs, including the amazing power punk pop "A Million Years," the Cramps-worshiper "Child of Perdition" or the VU-psych influenced "Easy to Dream".

PR reports: Bloodshot Records Brings Back the "Sleazy Dark Heart of Rock and Roll" with Bar Band Americanus... The Best of Charlie Pickett And - In Stores October 7If you accept the premise put forth by Keith Richards that the title of "greatest rock and roll band in the world" is determined on a nightly basis, then we want to tell you about some guys that owned it on quite a few nights in the 80's, a band that, for a variety of reasons, fell through the cracks and never got the recognition they deserved. Twenty plus years on, we're aiming to rectify that with the release of Bar Band Americanus: The Best of Charlie Pickett and
Rising out of the fertile and groundbreaking underground music scene of the Southeast in the early 80's, CP and the Eggs (and later the MC3) were all motorcycle boots and sneers, and rode a squall of throat-grabbing feedback and Stonesy musical middle fingers. They were as much Thunders and Reed as anything country and their tales of scoring in Miami projects ("Overtown"), cowboy dreams ("A On Horseback") and laconic survivors' humor were unlike anything being heard on the nascent college rock circuit. For proof, check out "Liked It A Lot," the love song that didn't just hurt, but had a streak of existential horror in it that STILL raises the hair on our battered souls.

PR reports: Pilot Speed have entered Sweet Tea Studios in Oxford, Mississippi with legendary producer Dennis Herring to record the follow-up to the band's INTO THE WEST (2006). The prior album delivered growing roots in the U.S, as they emerged as a major act in Canada with a Juno nomination, top-twenty album, top-ten single, and a Much Music video award. This upcoming release is poised to become a breakthrough for Pilot Speed.Herring's illustrious career offers a past discography that naturally leads to Pilot Speed in 2008. In the Eighties, he emerged with the massive Timbuk 3 track "The Future's So Bright You Gotta Wear Shades," and produced Camper Van Beethoven's albums Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart and Key Lime Pie. In the Nineties, releases included those from Throwing Muses, Concrete Blonde, The Innocence Mission, The Ocean Blue and Counting Crows. This decade has seen Herring deliver works from Modest Mouse, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, and The Hives. On working with Herring, Pilot Speed's Todd Clark shared, "We are all thrilled, and flattered to have the opportunity to work with Dennis. There is a certain leap of faith involved in choosing a producer. Dennis' outstanding track record and reputation serve to make that leap awfully exciting... I do believe the end product will be some very special recordings."

Just like Billy Talent's 666, this album didn't really need to be made. As a fan of From Autumn to Ashes I can tell you the only thing live about this album the fact that it's flawed. (2.5 stars)
