Slightly Stoopid Week: Day 5
antiMusic reports: Most people will look at a band named Slightly Stoopid and automatically write them off. That would be majorly stupid, as these guys have a lot to offer as their brand new album, 'Slightly Not Stoned Enough To Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid,' shows. They're carrying on the Reggae tradition proudly into the 21 century. With their new album hitting stores this week we hear from the band about some of the songs. Here they are with today's songs:

"On and On" - MILES: That's a little feel-good kinda jam. We used to call it "The Surf Jam" – it's like when you're cruising, checking out the waves, that kind of vibe. We got to record with Chris D. from the G. Love crew on that one, and also Mike Sutherland down at Total Access, so that was pretty sweet.

Two more song stories right - here

Rolling Stones Vs Lil Wayne
antiMusic reports: What? A rapper stole music from real musicians? Wow! Reuters has the tale of grand theft audio: A musical publishing company that owns the rights to the Rolling Stones' song "Play With Fire" sued U.S. rapper Lil Wayne on Thursday, saying he released an altered version of the song without permission.

Abkco Music Inc accused Lil Wayne, his artistic collaborators and his record company, a unit of Universal Music Group, of copyright infringement and unfair competition.

Lil Wayne's "Playing with Fire" is a clear derivative of the Rolling Stones song with the original lyrics and music altered in a recognizable way, Abkco said in its lawsuit.

Miley Cyrus Up for Auction on eBay
Hecklerspray reports: You can win a date with Miley Cyrus if you successfully buy her on eBay. It sounds a bit like human trafficking or something, which several border-authorities have expressly told us is quite illegal. Be careful - that's all we're saying.

All Headline News says of the auction: The Disney teen star is auctioning off a date on eBay, with the highest bidder being able to attend the premiere of Cyrus's Disney animated film "Bolt," which opens November 26.

The highest bid for the night-on-the-town with the Hannah Montana star, 15, currently stands around $2,000. The auction kicked off Tuesday night and ends July 29. The auction is benefiting the Cyrus family's charity, Pappy Cyrus Family Foundation, named for Miley's grandfather, which supports underprivileged children."
- Wait - don't get too excited. The whole thing sounds a lot less date-like when you read about it on the actual eBay site

Smashing Virgin Legal Fight
TMZ reports: Two members of The Smashing Pumpkins are suing Virgin Records America, claiming the label has screwed them out of ringtone fees and other stuff.

James Yoshinobu Iha and D'Arcy Wretzky-Brown claims in 2005, five years after the band broke up, Virgin negotiated a deal solely with frontman Billy Corgan for electronic transmissions (ringtones, download computer files, etc), without ever getting the consent of Iha or Wretzky-Brown.

In the suit, filed today in L.A. County Superior Court, the plaintiffs are seeking unspecified damages. - more on this story

GZA Sets Release
PR reports: One of the most continually relevant hip-hop emcees of all time, GZA returns August 19th with his long awaited fifth solo album, Pro Tools.

An original member of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan, GZA has established himself as a perennial force in hip-hop over the last two decades. On this first-leaked track, "Paper Plate" - when he's taking on a certain Vitamin Water mogul - GZA infuses his flow with vivid imagery and metaphorical symbolism, with the reference to "Paper Plate" connoting the disposability of certain emcees' rhymes and their questionable long term career prospects. - more on this story
