Geffen reports: The King of the Blues is set to release a new album featuring covers of old blues songs from B.B. King's early influences. With production by T Bone Burnett (Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Roy Orbison, Elvis Costello) the set revisits the music that influenced B.B. in the 1950s, the beginning of King's extraordinary professional journey that, literally, changed the texture of modern blues playing. One Kind Favor will be released on Geffen Records August 26th.Recorded at The Village Recorder in Los Angeles, CA One Kind Favor is meant to sound like an album recorded in the 50s. To get this sound Burnett and King replicated the kind of blues band King had back in the day bringing in some of the greats Dr. John on piano, Nathan East on stand up acoustic bass and Jim Keltner on drums, to name a few. Studio conditions of the time were reproduced. The result is a vintage sounding album filled with the songs that influenced King in his early days as an artist. The full track listing for One Kind Favor, along with the name of the artist who originally recorded the track, is:" See That My Grave Is Kept Clean" (Lemon Jefferson), "I Get So Weary" (T-Bone Walker), "Get These Blues Off Me" (Lee Vida Walker), "How Many More Years" (Chester Burnett), "Waiting For Your Call" (Oscar Lollie), "My Love Is Down" (Lonnie Johnson), "The World Is Gone Wrong" ( Walter Vinson, also known as Walter Jacobs, and Lonnie Chatmon, core members of the Mississippi Sheiks), "Blues Before Sunrise" (John Lee Hooker), "Midnight Blues" (John Willie "Shifty" Henry), "Backwater Blues" (Big Bill Broonzy), "Sitting On Top Of The World" (Walter Vinson and Lonnie Chatmon) and "Tomorrow Night" (Lonnie Johnson).

PR reports: Journey To The West, an album conceived and created by Damon Albarn (music) and Jamie Hewlett (visuals) under the guise of Monkey, will be released in North America this fall by XL Recordings.Created by the Gorillaz team of Albarn and Hewlett, Journey To The West is performed by an assortment of European and Chinese musicians and singers and was produced by Albarn. The album's packaging does likewise, moving beyond the stunning design of the opera Monkey: Journey To The West and exploring to the fullest its characters, storylines, themes and inspirations. Monkey: Journey To The West, the opera upon which the album is based, makes its London Premiere July 23 at the Royal Opera House. A singular and unique fusion of traditional mandarin opera/folklore and modern audiovisual interpretation, Monkey... is the result of director Chen Shi-Zheng having enlisted Gorillaz masterminds Albarn and Hewlett to provide unique, modern musical and visual interpretations of the themes and characters of this most beloved work of Chinese folklore. PR reports: The Silent Years are proud to announce the release of their forthcoming album The Globe, set for release on August 26th (with the iTunes only release coming out on August 12th). The band has been in the studio throughout the harsh Detroit winter of 2007, making the final touches on The Globe with none other than Chris Coady (!!!, TV On The Radio, Grizzly Bear, Architecture in Helsinki, Blonde Redhead). Critically acclaimed by the press and having been compared to and equally inspired by artists such as Elliot Smith, Tim Buckley, Flaming Lips and Sunny Day Real Estate; they combine simple and sweet melodies with sharp and powerful bursts of emotion via instrument and vox; leaving even the most stoic of listeners with goose bumps and a smile. Allow yourself to be taken into the weird and wondrous world created by The Silent Years, a very special band indeed. [ok, we couldn't take any more of this PR gushing.

conqueroo reports: Television was the anomaly among the New York bands who broke out of the CBGB scene of the late '70s. Musically adventurous and expansive in contrast to its minimalist scene mates, the band was two propelled by two inventive guitarists: Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd. Of the two, Verlaine kept the torch lit with a series of nine post-Television solo albums. His second and third long-players 1981's Dreamtime and Words From The Front from 1982, both originally released on Warner Bros. Records are thought to be two of his strongest. The two albums will be reissued on September 16, 2008 by Collectors' Choice Music, with liner notes by Jason Gross, editor of Perfect Sound Forever.Debate rages among Verlaine fans about which is his best solo album but a significant camp opts for Dreamtime, his 1981 sophomore release, with its dense, ringing instrumental interplay. Highlight tracks include "There's a Reason," "Penetration" and "Always." The all-star band featured Verlaine on guitars and vocals; Fred Smith (Television), bass; Bruce Brody (Patti Smith Group, Pretenders), keyboards; Jay Dee Daughtery (Patti Smith Group, The Church), drums; Rich Teeter (The Dictators, Twisted Sister), drums; Ritchie Flieger, guitar; and Donnie Nossov (John Waite, Pat Benatar, Lita Ford), bass. In the liner notes' oral history by the band members, bassist Smith recalls, "Recording with Tom was much the same as recording with Television. The only difference was for Television's Marquee Moon, we played that stuff for years live. [On this album] there was stuff that developed in the studio." Daughtery added, "There's an improvisation and intensity to his music with dynamics and tension that builds and subsides." And Nossov summed it up: "I thought artistically, it was a very successful record. I'm sorry that more people didn't get to hear it. But maybe that will change."

At nearly two hours long Nostradamus is going to test the patience of even the most diehard Judas Priest fans. There is far too much filler. The band could easily trim the 23 songs in half, if not further. (3 stars)
