antiMusic reports: With a CD called The Drunken Dance of Modern Man In Love, and a nickname of the Stephen King of Indie Pop, Chris Robley caught our attention. He kept our attention with his moody yet intriguing music. We asked Chris to pick some of his favorite songs from the CD and tell us about each. Here is Chris with today's song "Centaurea".The first time I ever kept a first vocal take in its entirety. Granted, the melody is lower and easy to sing. But still, I'm giving myself credit here. It was also one of the only times where a complete lyric came on so suddenly that I felt as if I were taking dictation. I woke up late one night, went out to the living room, and started scribbling fast. Besides some minor revisions, the words, imagery, and rhyme scheme is exactly what came spilling out. The national flower of Germany belongs to the genus Centaurea. This is a song about that liminal twilight at the end of a war, where peace is coming over the horizon but no one can feel it yet. (He went into a lot of detail so we're only printing the first part of each story in the Day in Rock

Metal Underground reports: VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland has told MiamiHerald.com that fans should be on the lookout for a reunion of his previous band, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, in the coming months. The singer made the announcement during an appearance this past Saturday (January 19) at an all-star gala event benefiting the AROD Family Foundation. The event took place at the Ritz Carlton hotel in South Beach, Florida. Hosts included Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez and his wife Cynthia, who founded the non-profit organization to support programs focused on improving quality of life, education and mental health for families in distress. [what about Velvet Revolver? Who knows, appears Weiland missed their gig at the Sundance Film Fest the following night.]

antiMusic reports: The leading UK music fests are going American this year. The BBC reports that "Three 'American headliners' have agreed to top the bill at the Reading and Leeds Festivals this August, organiser Melvin Benn has confirmed. He said he had booked the acts for the events but would not name them yet."So that started the rumor mill churning and Metal Underground had this rumor: METALLICA and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE are rumored to be two of the three American headliners slated to perform at this year's Reading and Leeds Festivals, which will happen, as usual, in England over the August Bank holiday weekend from Friday, August 22 to Sunday, August 24. We do know that Metallica is heading over there this summer so that is totally possible. But can we guess at the third headliner? Could it be Van Halen? What about Guns N' Roses? Stone Temple Pilots? Hopefully we'll know soon.

Metal Underground reports: The management of Shane Gibson, one of the guitar players currently touring with KORN as members of the group's backing band, has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET regarding the erroneous reports that Rob Patterson — former OTEP guitarist who was in the back-up band for KORN's Family Values Tour in 2006 is replacing KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer on the band's current European trek: "Rob Patterson is NOT replacing Munky. In fact, Shane Gibson, the backup guitarist of KORN and the lead guitarist for [KORN singer] Jonathan Davis' solo tour, was asked to take over Munky's role as the lead guitarist soon after Munky's departure. Shane saved the day by re-learning new parts of all 22 songs in ONE DAY and was ready to rock out by the next evening. "Rob Patterson was brought back to fill in for Shane's backup guitarist's role since Shane is now playing the lead and Rob knows the backup guitar parts by heart by being a backup guitarist in the past. Although Shane and Rob both are playing up front on the stage since two or three shows prior to last night's show (at first, Rob was in the back with Kalen), Shane is playing Munky's guitar parts, the major riffs, heaviest and loudest parts of all songs.

antiMusic reports: Read into this one what you want, especially with Weiland reportedly talking about a Stone Temple Pilots reunion. Blabbermouth has the story: VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland was a no-show for the band's scheduled performance last night (Sunday, January 20) at the 944 Magazine's party at Tao during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. According to PageSix.com, "speculation from inside the band's camp said the singer had missed his flight to Sundance for the performance, but that didn't stop his bandmates from literally asking the crowd if they wanted to have a go." "It's was crazy, they were inviting anyone who wanted to get up sing," an onlooker told PageSix.com.

The band were due to support Social Distortion at a venue on the Disney site in Anaheim, Orange County tomorrow (January 22nd). Contact Music reports: Plans to film a movie about the life of Sammy Davis Jr. have hit a legal roadblock in Dallas, the Dallas Morning News reported today (Monday), citing a lawsuit filed in federal court in Dallas by Davis's widow Altovise against two former business partners. Joining her in the lawsuit are Judy and Burt Boyar, who co-wrote Davis's autobiographies, Yes, I Can and Why Me? They claim that the former partners, California couple Barrett LaRoda and Anthony Francis, enticed Mrs. Davis to sign away rights to her husband's estate to a company they created called Sammy Davis Jr. Enterprises and that they have mismanaged the company ever since. Mrs. Davis claims that the pair demanded executive producer credits in connection with the film bio and then scuppered negotiations with the studio when the talks were near completion.
