antiMusic reports: The latest rumor swirling
around Guns N' Roses is that the long over-due "Chinese Democracy" is complete
and with the label but a new battle has emerged that is causing further
delay.
We don't know how much stock to put into
third or fourth generation rumors, but the word on the street is that Axl
has turned in the CD to Geffen at long last but no release date is in sight
because Axl and the label can not agree on the marketing of the album.
Are we closer to Chinese Democracy? We
have no idea but we are hopeful. We have yet to hear back with the official
denials or "no comment" from the GNR or Geffen camp but we'll keep you
posted on what we hear officially or hearsay. Again this is all but rumor
at this point , besides rumors are more fun than official news anyway.
[Update we still have not heard back from
our contacts at the label or within the band. But we were informed that
this was also widely reported on GNR message boards around Christmas.]-
While
we wait for a confirmation, the CD did get an album of the year nod in
our 2007 special

Contact Music reports: Teenage singer/actress
MILEY CYRUS has confessed to using a body double during concert performances
so she has time to make costume changes. The star was caught out by eagle-eyed
fans who spotted a lookalike onstage during a recent show on the sold-out
Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana Best Of Both Worlds tour.
But the 15-year-old's representative insists
a double is a necessity of the performance, telling OK! magazine, "To help
speed the transition from Hannah to Miley, there is a production element
during the performance of We Got The Party incorporating a body double
for Miley.
"After Hannah has completed the featured
verse on the duet with the Jonas Brothers, a body double appears approximately
one to two minutes prior to the end of the song in order to allow Miley
to remove the Hannah wig and costume and transform into Miley for her solo
set.- more

antiMusic reports: Boomers are consumers,
that is the message from Madison Ave. Now the music from the greatest rock
band in music history will be used to whore products. Forget your fond
memories associated with the songs of the Fab Four, soon you'll be able
to associate them with products like a good hippy turned yuppie! Say you
wanna revolution? The revolution is for sale. Gigwise has the sad story:
Songs by the Beatles are set to feature
in adverts for the first time after their back-catalogue was made available
to advertisers. Sony/ATV Music Publishing, who owns the rights to the majority
of the band's music, said that select "brand partnerships" would be considered.
Until now, it had been illegal to use the
band's original recordings in adverts. In 1987, Nike were sued for $15
million for using 'Revolution' in a TV campaign. - more

antiMusic reports: It's not a nighttime soap
you are watching, it's the meltdown of pop singer Britney Spears. The poptart
took her public meltdown far beyond her "head shaving" insanity with a
stand off with police and being hospitalized for observation of her mental
state, according to reports, as she loses custody rights to her children.
Wenn reported: BRITNEY SPEARS has been
classed as a "special needs" patient following her admission to a Los Angeles
hospital, after it emerged she locked one of her young sons in a room with
her at her Los Angeles home. The troubled singer, 26, was admitted to the
city's Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Thursday evening (03Jan08) following
a major stand-off with police at her Beverly Hills mansion after she refused
to hand over her two boys to ex-husband Kevin Federline after a scheduled
visit. Her court-appointed monitor called for emergency services after
witnessing Spears' apparent mental breakdown.
AP reported on Friday, "A court commissioner
gave sole physical and legal custody of Britney Spears' two little boys
Friday to ex-husband Kevin Federline and suspended the troubled pop star's
visitation rights."

antiMusic reports: Remember back when South
By Southwest was a showcase for up and coming bands? Now it's just a label
showcase. That's both good and bad. The good is that attendees are treated
to some special shows, the bad is that it's lost it's indie focus. This
year SxSWers will reportedly be able to check out REM. Gigwise has the
story: REM have been confirmed to appear at this year's South By Southwest
festival, it has been reported.
The Athens, Georgia band will be previewing
their new album 'Accelerate', due for release on March 31, and will no
doubt be one of the highlights of the annual music and film marathon. It
will be the first time they've played in the Texan city in five years.
As local website austin360.com reports,
also confirmed are Daniel Lanois, Cheveu and a bunch of Domino acts in
the shape of The Kills, Lightspeed Champion and Sons & Daughters.-

Gigwise reports: Steal a guitar go to jail.
Steal a signed Alice Cooper guitar that was supposed to be used in a charity
auction, you might go to hell. Gigwise has the tale of the nabbing of the
hotel employees the perpetrated the heist:
Three hotel employees have been arrested
in connection with stealing a signed Alice Cooper guitar that was due to
be sold at a charity auction.
The shock-rocker stayed at the Ontario
Hilton Hotel from the week beginning December 10 and left the Gibson Les
Paul at the front desk so it could be forwarded on at a later date. It
was estimated to raise $3,000 when it went under the hammer.
Ontario Hilton representatives notified
police when they saw CCTV footage of 23-year-old Sarah Richards allegedly
stealing the guitar on December 27.- more

Gigwise reports: Gigwise has spoken to Radiohead's
long-term manager Bryce Edge about the decision to prohibit Amplive from
releasing a remix version of 'In Rainbows' and he explained to us that
the decision boiled down to two major factors.
As reported earlier today, Radiohead's
publishers Warner/Chappell sent a 'cease and desist' letter to Amplive's
label saying that by releasing 'Rainydayz', the producer had created "musical
arrangements and remixes" without official agreement.
Explaining things, Edge said the first
problem was that Amplive used an image of Thom Yorke on his website advertising
the album, therefore inferring the frontman's involvement.
Secondly, Edge iterated the point that
management had a major grievance about fans being told to forward on their
'In Rainbows' purchase email to receive the free remix album.-

Punknews.org reports: Brian Bell of Weezer
recently posted an update on the band's upcoming sixth album. The record
has been the source of much speculation but little concrete information
has actually surfaced in the past few months. Bell explained:
Greetings fellow Weezer-ites. We'd like
to wish you all a Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years. And it's
going to be a very happy one because album six is finished and personally
I think it's our best yet.
Never have the four of us worked so hard
and passionately on an album and we all look forward to performing this
culmination of our talents and combined knowledge in 2008 in a city near
you!- more

antiMusic reports: Dr. Phil has backed off
his public involvement with Britney's meltdown. His issued a statement
Monday on his website concerning his television coverage of the popstar's
mental problems. He writes, "As was widely reported this weekend, at the
request of concerned family members, I visited Britney Spears in the hospital.
The details of that visit will, of course, remain private.
"We had planned to tape a Dr. Phil Now
show today, focusing not on the tabloid side of Britney's latest problems,
but instead on the very serious issues surrounding this case. Clearly,
it is not just Britney's family struggling to find a way to protect adult
children who cannot be ordered or compelled to seek help.
"Because the Spears situation is too intense
at this time, and out of consideration to the family, I have made the decision
not to move forward with the taping at this particular time.-

BW&BK reports: Spanish website RafaBasa.com
has published the following exclusive report about the possible return
of AC/DC: "There is not so many things to tell, but even with the secret
everything is kept under, we have some interesting news about AC/DC. There
is no official announcement at this moment, but our sources in New York
told us that the band is ready to return.
As we have previously informed, the main
problem that has forced AC/DC to be on hold without releasing any albums
or playing live, is an injury on Angus Young's knee, something that we
can say that it's fine considering the information we are revealing. We
know that the album is on the last stage of the mixing process, and the
band have worked with famous producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange (DEF LEPPARD).
They are going to make several secret "showcases"
for very small audiences (maybe 500 people venues) in Europe at the end
of January. The will premiere the new song and also will be a warm up for
the band- more
