Who Needs Hippies When You Have Blue Cheer?
Rock N Roll Universe reports: Inspired by the heavy blues improv of Cream and Hendrix, legendary proto metal gods Blue Cheer roared forth from the San Francisco Bay area onto the national scene in a big way in early 1968 with their debut album 'Vincebus Eruptum'. Completely at odds with almost all of what was coming up from the hippie flower power underground, they were the antithesis of bands such as The Grateful Dead, as subtle as a jackhammer and louder than a 747. In a brand new exclusive interview conducted by Rock N Roll Universe with founding member Dickie Peterson, the legendary bassist discusses the band's new album, their first in 15 years, 'What Doesn't Kill You...', recording the classic 'Vincebus Eruptum', playing with Jimi Hendrix plus much, much more.

RNRU : Blue Cheer has a brand new studio album out 'What Doesn't Kill You..." which is the first studio album from the band in 15 years, and the first one released here in the U.S. in 20. How do you feel the album came out, and why was there so much time between albums?

DP : First off, I think the album came out really great. Duck McDonald is an excellent producer. He did pretty much what I wanted to do, in that we wanted to capture who we really are. I think he did a really good job in doing that with today's technology applied to what we do. We didn't record for quite some time simply because #1, we're performing artists. We record albums because you have to in this business, but if you really want to see what Blue Cheer is all about you have to go stand there. Performing live, that's what we're all about.

RNRU : What do you feel the band's chances are of ever being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame? Is that something that you're even interested in?

DP : It's not anything that excites us. We'd be more interested in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Infamy. The Hall Of Fame is a strange animal. There's a lot of people that should be in there who aren't, and there's a lot of people in there who I don't know how they got there. But I know this, that you join, and that's how you become eligible to be considered. To me, this doesn't have anything to do with rock & roll. Rock & Roll...the obvious doesn't have to be enrolled to be considered. So, it's not something we don't even talk about. The band speaks for itself. If you want to make it a hall of fame type of band, that's up to somebody else, not up to us. If they think we're going to pay money and try to buy fame, they're wrong. Not to mention most of the guys who get in end up playing Atlantic City, Las Vegas, or they die. We're more interested in the gig tomorrow night than being in the hall of fame. - more on this story

Britney's Manager To Be Fired?
TMZ reports: TMZ has confirmed that one of the things that went down in yesterday's hearing involving Britney's conversatorship is that the commissioner granted the conservators the power to fire her manager, Howard Grossman.

Commissioner Reva Goetz ordered Howard Grossman to turn over "all documents, records and assets relating to Britney Spears" to Brit's dad, Jamie, who, along with attorney Andrew Wallet, is the court-appointed conservator of Brit and her estate.

Though the firing hasn't gone down yet, we're guessing the reason Brit's fam wants him out is because Grossman has a very cozy relationship with Sam Lutfi -- something that makes Brit's family very uncomfortable. - More BS stories from TMZ

The Exies Involve Fans in New Video
PR reports: THE EXIES have posted a new video for their song "These Are The Days." What makes this video unique is how the band not only shot and edited it themselves, but also how they involved their fans.

The Exies message to their fans: "What we are looking for is quotes, as if you were writing in your friends yearbook, or just writing to your friend (in a notebook), if you were a soldier writing to a loved one overseas or a mother writing to a son she hasn't seen in years. Make it a message of hope, or a message of thanks, or a look towards the future, whatever makes it personal for you. "

These fan messages are mixed throughout live footage, backstage pics, and a photo history of the band's past few years. Due to the overwhelming response of fans sending in quotes, the band had to create a web page dedicated to everyone that couldn't make it on the video. - Watch the Video

The Cat Empire Set April Release
PR reports: Velour Music Group will release The Cat Empire's latest album 'So Many Nights' on April 22. These acclaimed Aussie superstars have toured the world, released multi-platinum records in Australia, won big awards and are set to bring their dynamic new album to the US this Spring.

'So Many Nights' is a dynamic effort, paying homage to their previous sun-baked albums while venturing into new sonic territory. Picking up where 2007's Latin-drenched 'Two Shoes' left off is the Afro-Cuban spice of "Fishies." Tunes like the ethereal, slow-jam funk of "Lonely Moon," and the dark island riddims of "'Til The Ocean Takes Us All" showcase the band's diversity and fresh sound. Lead-off track "So Many Nights," a blazing R&B bang-up with horns, organ and a gripping melody, sets the mood for this genre-defying record. - tracklisting

Destroy Everything in April
PR reports: After years of relative silence, pivotal Chicago area punks Destroy Everything will be releasing their new full-length album "Freedom Of Speech Means Talk Is Cheap" through Tent City Records on April Fool's Day. (Judgment left to the retail circuit on whether that date is or is not a joke).

Destroy Everything is a five-piece punk band from Chicago, with a sound derived from Midwest hardcore of the early 1980s overlayed with anthemic melodies of the late 1970s London punk scene and mixed in with a bit of Southern California skate-punk (in other words: catchy songs with a sort of turbo-charged swagger). - more on this story

Is Wentz The New Durst?
antiMusic reports: Remember back when Limp Bizkit started their decline from trendy chart toppers to where they are now? It all seem to start when Fred Durst become a label exec. What does that has to do with the following story? We'll let you figure that out and see if think history will repeat itself.

Decaydance Records, the label started by Pete Wentz [the spokesmodel for Fall Out Boy] is proud to announce a new partnership with the band Four Year Strong. It will mark the first signing independent of it's ties to Atlantic Records. [the PR has Wentz calling the band hardcore. Which is funny because if you listen to this band, the vocals are pure generic emo. Annoyingly so. So this is sort of like calling Sum 41 punk or Limp Bizkit metal.]

From Compton, CA, Tyga is the eighteen-year-old cousin of Gym Class Heroes' Travis McCoy who brought the MC to Decaydance and the Bat Squad crew. To celebrate, the full album "Rise or Die Trying" will be available for FREE download starting February 8 through February 13 at - www.friendsorenemies.com.

The godfathers of synthesizer-based music; it is said that everything from the "Krautrock" sound of bands like Kraftwerk to the ubiquitous ambient drone of "New Age" sprung from the band's loins and the fertile mind of their leader, Edgar Froese. .... Demiricous - Poverty
