PR reports: In writing songs for her new album 'Little Wild One' (out September 9th) Joan Osborne fell under the spell of two of New York's most beloved poets."The album's opening track, 'Hallelujah in the City', is a riff on the idea of the city as a spiritual place," says Osborne. "This idea comes up in Walt Whitman's and Alan Ginsberg's poetry, the concept that the shared bond of humanity of all the citizens, all their interactions, adds up to a unique environment of the soul. The album marks the reunion Osborne with Rick Chertoff, Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian, the writing producing team that worked with album on her debut, five-million selling breakthrough album 'Relish', which was nominated for six grammys.

Koch reports: With Didn't It Feel Kinder, songwriter and erstwhile Indigo Girl Amy Ray's third solo release and her most ambitious to date, Ray again trades in her acoustic guitar for an electric, cranks her amp and reaffirms her position as one of the truest, most striking voices in contemporary music. For the first time, Ray enlisted a producer for a solo album. Greg Griffith (The Butchies, Le Tigre, Loudspeaker, Vitapup), a fearless listener and multi-talented musician, worked with Ray to incorporate a variety of sounds and influences to create her unique and evolving voice throughout this record. The album hit stores on August 5, 2008 and here is Amy to tell us a little bit about it: By way of introduction, let me just say, I love making records. No matter how tough it is, I always want to make the next one. In fact, I am usually thinking about the next CD before I am done with the one I am working on, it's a process I have grown into and crave. Even in the midst of collaboration, there is a solitude that goes along with making music, a loneliness that feels right. This project happened over the course of a year -- a year in between Indigo Girl shows and taking care of life. I locked myself in my hotel room and wrote whenever I could. My most productive days were at the Mohegan Sun Casino and a luxury hotel in Sydney, Australia. I did a lot of driving. I drove through long nights and small towns to get home from the studio in time for the next Indigo tour. I found that WNCW lasts about an hour each way outside of Asheville and when you drive out of Georgia up 85N to get to Greensboro, you can catch a lot of college radio. I found a great Motel 8 during a snowstorm in Waynesville, N.C. I found that the YMCA in Asheville is really cool, but very crowded. Most importantly, I found that first takes aren't always the best. Now I am adding up the receipts, compiling notes, and remembering the timeline. I am looking at the horses hanging out on the CD cover wondering what that means. Some kind of strength, some kind of kindness, I guess.

PR reports: Talking House Records announces the release of Blueprints of Jazz, a series of recordings that shines the spotlight on some of the lesser known innovators and style-setters in jazz. The first three volumes of the series, spotlighting drummer Mike Clark, saxophonist Billy Harper, and drummer Donald Bailey, will be released on November 4, 2008. While their names may not be as well known as some, their musical ideas have helped define the sound of jazz as it has developed over the past 50 years - they are true musical architects that have helped lay down the BLUEPRINTS OF JAZZ.

PR reports: Laibach announce details of a new DVD, Volk Dead In Trbovlje (out September 2, 2008). Laibach will also return to the US for their first U.S. tour in four years in September. The DVD was filmed during the extensive tour based on Laibach's acclaimed album, VOLK, a collection of interpretations of national anthems which includes the national anthem for NSK, the State in time without territory and national boundaries which Laibach have been linked with since its formation in 1992. On the album, Laibach uncovering a common ground linking the nations, a shared patriotic sentiment based around the bloody and violent foundations of nation which here, can be heard in the lyrics and pomp of the largely hymnal tracks. By reinterpreting the music and translating the lyrics of each anthem, the band have not only shown us this common ground, they have also offered up a very pertinent comment on today's political situation and a warning for future generations.

PR reports: LA-based singer-songwriter WAZ will be independently releasing "The Secret" EP exclusively on iTunes. "The Secret" EP was mixed by Jamie Candiloro (REM, Ryan Adams) & produced by Will Golden (Gary Jules, Meiko, Jay Brannan, Joe Purdy). Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, WAZ was heavily influenced by his parent's record collection which included artists such as The Pretenders, ELO, & Neil Young. At the early age of 8, 10cc's song, "The Things We Do For Love" inspired WAZ to pick up his first guitar. After graduating college, WAZ packed up his car and drove west having no idea what the future held. Within a day of arriving in California he got a call from his college buddy Pete Yorn to start a band. After three years of hard work and gigging in Los Angeles, Yorn signed a major deal with Columbia records. The boys picked up and went on road. It was the next three years where WAZ witnessed the emotional impact music had on people. "Playing shows night after night I was always amazed to see the raw and emotional connection people have with heartfelt music & lyrics." It was this connection that inspired WAZ to start writing his own songs.

This film is not a giant leap in the genre of rock star bios but the combination of a powerful subject in Strummer, the artistic vision of Temple and the support of many talking heads makes this one of the better rock documentaries. (4.5 stars)

Here is a blast from the past. This Rocket Attack is powered by nostalgic, fond memories towards the 1980s symphonic and arena hard rock movements, presenting The Man from the Moon as decidedly retrogressive.
