Mike Mangione Week: Day 1
antiMusic reports: We continue our look at outstanding artists this week with Mike Mangione. This critically acclaimed Midwestern singer/songwriter's latest new album "Tenebrae" is getting a wide release this week and we caught up with Mike to tell us a little bit about his favorite tracks from the album. Here he is with today's song:

Slowdown: This was recorded in the first take. We tried a couple after to see if we could get something better but there was sincerity that could not be replicated. Recording can quickly become artificial as you try to capture and create what comes natural.

The first take had it because I didn't think we were going to get it, so I was relaxed. I am glad it worked. All good will cause pain. The best thing in your life will hurt you because it means that much. Even if you are changing something in your life for the better, there is still some tearing that will occur and sometimes we are not ready for it. When it happened to me all I could say was slowdown. This one is personal.

Hearing is believing so preview some songs from the album, learn more about Mike, grab tour dates and more right

Velvet Revolver Close To Picking New Singer
Blabbermouth reports: Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan has told UK's JournalLive that the band should hopefully have a new singer by the end of next month.

The new vocalist's identity may still be a closely guarded secret but McKagan explained: "We have a guy who we've been working with who's a really good singer and a great guy. I really hope he's the one.

"The question is, does he have that extra thing? It's just really hard to tell until you do a gig. There's a lot of expectation. In truth, he has to be killer to front Velvet Revolver. We're writing amazing material and I really think the new record will be the best thing that we've done as a band. So do we have the right singer to do that music justice?" - more on this story

Shooting At Dupri Party
TMZ reports: Several huge stars were sent running for their lives when a gunshot was fired at Jermaine Dupri's afterparty in an Atlanta nightclub, this according to a source inside the club.

According to law enforcement sources, things got violent when club patrons heard private security hired to work inside the club were double charging people to get into the VIP area -- where stars like Usher, Diddy and Nelly were partying.

Cops say pushing and shoving broke out, and as the masses were being thrown outside, that's when a shot rang out. A security guard was treated for a shot in the arm, but has already been released from the hospital.

TMZ has obtained exclusive photos of Diddy's bodyguards rushing the mogul out of Club Dream after allegedly fired a round inside the club. Diddy didn't even have time to put his champagne down before his hired muscle ran him out the back door. - Watch Diddy Run!

Stoned Temple Pilot Falls Into Drum Kit During Show
Blabbermouth reports: Jim Louvau of The Arizona Republic reviewed STONE TEMPLE PILOTS' July 29, 2008 concert at the the Dodge Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona. An excerpt from his review follows. "As lights went out and [Scott] Weiland [vocals] appeared in front of his microphone stand muttering something about VELVET REVOLVER and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS before the rest of the band had even made their way on stage. Part of the beauty of attending a Weiland event is that you never know exactly what version of the singer is going to show up and the singer's erratic behavior set the tone early on for what would be a rough night for the '90s alt-heroes.

"The lengthy set opened with 'Big Empty' from 'The Crow' soundtrack. Dressed in a grey suit Weiland stumbled around the stage and fell into drummer Eric Kretz's drum kit which confirmed he is now officially the Amy Winehouse of rock 'n' roll. When he did sing he often forgot words or changed them. 'Conversations Kill' quickly became 'Masturbation Kill'.

"The singer's incoherent rants in between songs were cut off by his band members starting the next song to stop the bleeding. Guitarist Dean DeLeo and his brother bassist Robert DeLeo looked humiliated as they ripped through classics like 'Wicked Garden', 'Big Bang Baby' and 'Vasoline'."

Metallica Release Dates
Blabbermouth reports: Metallica has officially set Friday, September 12 as the "worldwide" release date for its new album, "Death Magnetic".

Assuming that the band has yet to announce separate release dates for the different parts of the world (since physical CDs are virtually never released on the same day "worldwide"), the September 12 date in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (where albums are traditionally issued on Fridays) would indicate that the album would arrive in the U.S. on Tuesday, September 16, with most of continental Europe getting the CD one day earlier on September 15.

METALLICA's new CD will be available to download for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock on the same day the album arrives in stores.Confused? Blabbermouth has some clarifications as well as the tracklisting and video footage

Rage Against Lollapalooza
Blabbermouth reports: According to MTV News, the crowd surge during Rage Against The Machine's set on Saturday (August 2) at Lollapalooza in Chicago got so bad that the group's frontman Zack de la Rocha "stopped the show on three separate occasions, pleading with fans to take a step back to avoid crushing the audience members up front.

At another point during the set, Lollapalooza's head of security conferred with the members of the band and their team at the front of the stage."

MTV News also states, "The relentless fury of the music, combined with the sense of chaos in the crowd, made for some tense moments. Concertgoers trying to go up a set of cement steps were pushed backwards or blocked from exiting as a bull rush of male fans barreled down the steps, knocking people over like dominoes."

Cavalera Conspiracy Barred From Priest Tour
Blabbermouth reports: "Cavalera Conspiracy has been deemed an 'inappropriate' band to perform with Judas Priest on their Priest Feast 2008 tour dates in Australia and New Zealand, and have thusly been forced to cancel their appearance at the previously announced tour dates in the southern Pacific.

"Although Cavalera Conspiracy (featuring Max and Iggor of the legendary Sepultura) had several amazing and successful dates with their brothers in Priest throughout Eastern Europe, apparently the band has been deemed too inflammatory to open for Priest in Australia and NZ.

"So, with that said, this post is an apology to the fans in the Australia and New Zealand for the cancellations." - more on this story

Compromising of Integrity, Morality, & Principles in Exchange for Money Tour
PR reports: From the label that brought you Plain White T's and Sugarcult, [wait, don't stop reading because of that] Fearless Records is excited to announce that Mayday Parade, The Maine, and Every Avenue have joined up on a nationwide tour this fall with All Time Low (Hopeless Records).

Humorously named by All Time Low, the "Compromising of Integrity, Morality, & Principles in Exchange for Money" tour kicks off October 9, 2008 in Virginia. This tour will take its upbeat sound [so it will be all rainbows and lollypops?] coast-to-coast through November 29th.

Mayday Parade: It is often unheard of for an artists debut album to remain on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart for over 30 weeks, however Mayday Parade's first studio album A Lesson In Romantics has achieved this and has no plans to let up. Praised as one of the "Five Bands that Broke Out" at Bamboozle 2008 by Rolling Stone [some might hold that against them], Mayday Parade continues to make headlines by touring with the likes of Paramore, Plain White T's, Emery and Madina Lake. [Really? The last headline we had on them was back in Feb] Mayday Parade continues to perform daily in front of thousands fans all summer long on the Warped Tour. - more on this story

Great White Fire Victims May Get Settlements By Year's End
projo.com reports: Lawyers for the victims of The Station nightclub fire are hoping to distribute the large pool of settlement money that has been offered to their clients by the end of this year, according to letters some of the victims have received in recent weeks.

Although some of the parties that lawyers consider most culpable have yet to enter into settlements, attorneys for those killed and injured as a result of the fire are anticipating that the civil lawsuits pending in U.S. District Court can be wrapped up during the next several months, without a trial. They've told clients that their "goal" is to distribute the proceeds by the end of December.

There are still claims against the State of Rhode Island and the Town of West Warwick that would need to be resolved before the victims' lawsuits can be terminated –– claims that, if settled, might require General Assembly and/or voter approval.
