Our Lady Peace Frontman Sets Solo Release
PR reports: Raine Maida, best known for his gig fronting iconic Canadian rock band Our Lady Peace, has branched off on his own and created the record he was always meant to make.

The Hunter's Lullaby, set to hit on August 26th (Kingnoise Records) is a collection of 10 commanding songs that are poignant and lyrical, delivered in a style reminiscent of the 60's beat poets with hip hop influenced beats of today. A courageous album by an artist who is reveling in the freedom of creative and commercial independence.

The Hunter's Lullaby was created over the span of a year in Raine's private studio. Recorded using purely acoustic instruments, Maida gathered many of his nearest and dearest musician friends to help shape the record. His talented wife Chantal Kreviazuk plays piano and lends her unique vocals to several of the albums tracks. Victor Indrizzo (Beck, Gnarls Barkley) started the drum sessions with Raine back in the summer of 2006. Joseph Karnes(John Cale, My Brightest Diamond) contributed the stand up bass while Randy Cooke (Dave Stewart) laid down the majority of the drums and percussion. - more on this story

Solo Effort From Circa Survive Singer Hits Next Week

Best known as the lead singer for the Philadelphia-based progressive punk act Circa Survive, Green recorded "Avalon" last March during an eight-day period in the sleepy beach town of Avalon, New Jersey. With songs penned over the past decade, the album spans Green's adolescence and adulthood and shows him at both his most visceral and vulnerable.

Singer Launches Virtual Drinking Contest
Webster and Associates reports: Aria Records recording artist Stephen Cochran is launching his new video game. The virtual bar allows fans to challenge Stephen in a drinking contest to promote his new single "Thinkin I'm Drinkin". Upload a personal picture at the prompt and get started drinking. As a fan, you can actually see yourself sitting right next to Stephen at the bar drinking beer after beer and shot after shot. Beware because the interactive Stephen will let you know if you are drinking too slowly!

The game was produced by Grassroots Promotion, a Nashville radio promotions and music marketing company. GrassRoots previously produced a successful online game for the BamaJam Music Festival in Enterprise, AL. The "Thinkin' I'm Drinkin'" game interface allows the user to upload a photo and become a "virtual drinking buddy" with Cochran.

"Thinkin' I'm Drinkin'" is such a fun song and the game allows Stephen to connect with his fans in an unexpected way, while building word-of-mouth awareness that will take his music to a bigger audience. We are always looking for ways to effectively bring digital promotions into the marketing mix. "Creating innovative branded content and casual games is a new service we are excited to offer our clients," says Jim Alderdice, Director of Marketing, GrassRoots Promotion. - http://www.thinkinimdrinkin.com

Digital Nightwish Rarities and Real US Tour
Blabbermouth reports: Finland's Nightwish will once again tour U.S. soil, hitting all major markets and cities along the way. The band will bring its massively popular yet refreshingly unique blend of progressive Euro metal, fueled by the siren-like vocals of Anette Olzon, to North American shores for the third and final trek in support of last year's "Dark Passion Play", which has sold nearly 75,000 copies in the U.S. since its September 2007 release.

Jack's Mannequin Goes Soph

Co-produced by McMahon and Jim Wirt (Incubus, Hoobastank), The Glass Passenger is the follow-up to the band's debut Everything in Transit, which was released in August 2005 and debuted at No. 37 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart.

Like that album, The Glass Passenger was written and recorded over the course of nearly two years with McMahon going into the studio whenever inspiration struck. The Bassplayer Has Rotted
Metal Blade Records reports: The Rotted are to part ways with bassist Wilson. New priorities in his personal life have made it apparent that he'll no longer be able to commit 100% to the upcoming plans and fast-moving future of the band; therefore he's taken the decision to step down as bass guitarist.

Says Wilson, "It is with some sadness that I am announcing my departure from The Rotted. I've been with these guys through thick and thin for over 6 years, and had some of the best times of my life! When we reformed as The Rotted, the process was simple, that everyone would be firing on all cylinders in the same direction – I always said if my other commitments in life would hinder this, then I would step down for the greater good, and it is clear that this time has come.

"My last show with the guys will be at the Wacken festival – we play on the Wet stage on the Friday afternoon, so come down and raise a horn with me! I'm incredibly proud of what I have achieved with the guys, and the release of Get Dead Or Die Trying and the Wacken fest is finishing on a real high, what more could anyone ask for?" - more on this story

Hal Ketchum Records New Album Live In Two Days
conqueroo reports: Hal Ketchum recorded his new album, Father Time, without a net. He amassed more than a dozen new original songs plus a dream team of musicians and entered the studio to record the album live to two-track. There were no overdubs and only a few second takes. "When I went into this project, my mentality was that this is either going to work or not," Ketchum says. But at the end of the first day, with nine songs finished, he knew the experiment was a success.

The resultant album, which contains 13 Ketchum-penned songs plus a cover of Tom Waits' "Jersey Girl," will hit stores on September 9, 2008. It is the album that Ketchum's talents have promised since he burst onto the country music scene in 1991 claiming the #1 spot with his very first single, "Small Town Saturday Night."

The recording of Father Time as a live, direct-to-tape album originated from a conversation he had with some fellow musicians about how recording had lost some of its creative edge in this high-tech era in which players record apart from each other in separate rooms and booths. "By the end of that conversation, I said, 'OK, I'm going to cut live to two-track.' I went home that afternoon and got a yellow pad and put together a wish list of players. And almost everyone I called was available for the two days I had blocked out."

Ernie Halter Week: Day 2
antiMusic reports: It's hard to find a unique "singer/songwriter" in this day and age. The mere mention of the "genre" is enough to put most people to sleep, but there are a few exceptions and Ernie Halter is one of them with his unique mix of rock, soul and pop.

Ernie's new album "Starting Over" debuted on the top 25 of the iTunes rock charts earlier this month and with the physical CD hitting stores next week we asked Ernie to tell us a little bit about the songs. Here is Ernie with today's song:

Try: I wrote this song in Nashville, Tennessee with Josh Hoge. This was my first writing session on music row in Nashville. I traveled around for six months at the time, so this song is the balance between road life and my personal life. This song is meaningful to me because it is difficult to connect with someone on a day to day level while on the road.

Hearing is believing, so go grab a listen and learn more about Ernie and his new album right - here
