Beatles Boots On Hold
AP reports: A company in a court fight with the Beatles has agreed not to release recordings purportedly made during Ringo Starr's first performance with the group until the case is resolved.

A federal judge on Friday approved the agreement between Apple Corps Ltd., the London-based group formed by the Beatles that helps guard their legacy, and Miami Lakes-based Fuego Entertainment, Inc.

The dispute stems from recordings the Fab Four apparently made in 1962 during a performance at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany. - more on this story

Burn the Midnight Oil Again
Sony reports: Some 21 years after its release in August 1987, Diesel And Dust, the sixth studio album by the beloved Australian band Midnight Oil, continues to burn a trail across the rock wilderness that is as relevant and politically savvy today as the moment it was created. Source of an enduring manifesto of songs that cut across environmental collapse, native human rights, nuclear devastation, and big government, the album earned RIAA platinum in this country (and 7-times platinum in Oz) on its way to desert-island-disc status.

Underscoring Midnight Oil's activist core was the commitment of its lead singer Peter Garrett – who first campaigned for the Australian Senate on a Nuclear Disarmament Party ticket in 1984, while still in the band (losing only by the slimmest margin). Today, six years after amicably departing Midnight Oil in 2002, Garrett's dedication is strong as ever, as Australia's Minister for Environment, Heritage and Arts.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the U.S. chart debut of DIESEL AND DUST in 1988, an expanded edition of the album will now contain the long-lost 11th track "Gunbarrel Highway" (banned from North American editions of the album because of the lyric "shit falls like rain on a land that is brown"), coupled with a bonus DVD of the one-hour 1987 Blackfella/Whitefella Tour documentary – its first appearance on commercial home video (with bonus clips of "The Dead Heart" and "Beds Are Burning"). Newly remastered for the first time in two decades, and complete with band member Rob Hirst's original liner notes, the new package will arrive in stores May 6th on Columbia/Legacy. - more on this story

A Whiter Shade of Victory
AP reports: The lead singer of the British band Procol Harum won an appeals court judgment Friday awarding him the full royalties to the iconic hit, "A Whiter Shade of Pale."

Britain's Court of Appeal ruling for rock star Gary Brooker overturned a lower court decision granting the group's former organist 40 percent of the millions of dollars in royalties from the song.

The appeals court agreed Matthew Fisher, who played the haunting organ theme, was entitled to co-authorship but said he will receive no money from past or future royalties. - more on this story

Evil Maria Bringin Back the 60s
PR reports: After releasing and touring behind three CDs on his Spill Records label, singer/songwriter and guitarist Evren Goknar named his rock band Evil Maria for his fourth release. [Before you ask, no they did not provide a release date and we're too lazy to look it up]

Their music is best characterized as neo-sixties garage pop, infusing edgy rock elements with pop and early new wave. Bands such as Elvis Costello and The Attractions, The Kinks, The Pixies, and Nirvana influence their music. Add in his clever lyrics and strong melodies and you get "inherently catchy, consistently enjoyable and melodically proficient" songs as described by Performing Songwriter Magazine.

Sound And Fury Bamboozled
Chipster reports: There was a time when rock n' roll was regarded as some kind of terrible, howling, beast from the abyss, ready to pounce upon and devour the unsuspecting youth of the world--hurling them into a wild life of freedom and outrageous adventure. Well, the beast is back! Toronto Canada's SOUND AND FURY is undeniably all about the rock, as heard throughout their self-titled debut full-length album, 'SOUND AND FURY' due June 24th via Rebel Youth Records/MRI-RED Distribution. Fans will get a taste when the band plays at the east and west coast editions of Bamboozle Festival.

"I've had a lot of crazy experiences and rowdy times," recalls SOUND AND FURY singer/songwriter, Luke Metcalf. "I mainly write about when I was in high school and then afterward, when I was living homeless with the gutter punks in California."

"Right from the start I knew exactly what I wanted when I wrote the music and lyrics for this album," continues Metcalf. "I wanted to make a killer rock album to party your ass off to...an album to let loose, leave all the bulls**t behind and run wild to. When I hit high school I went totally out of control. It was just a rampage of crazy partying.

At the time, I was incredibly pissed off and f**ked up because I was dealing with a lot of really harsh s**t...but I decided: "f**k it all...I'm gonna have some f**king fun"... and I managed to have a hell of a lot of fun. I made some really great friends and had some really wild times and this is what the album is all about." - more on this story

Low Vs. Diamond The Next Big Thing?
Sony reports: Epic Records and Los Angeles based band, Low Vs. Diamond, are proud to announce that iTunes has chosen the quintet as one of their favorite up-and-coming bands of 2008. As part of their "Next Big Thing" program, iTunes will offer fans an opportunity to purchase the band's upcoming self-titled album months before its release this summer.

An uncompromising powerful record full of cinematic tracks, LOW VS. DIAMOND will be available via iTunes beginning April 1st. A band The Sun, NME, The Los Angeles Times, Paste Magazine and Time Out London all praised as a band to watch in 2008, will spend most of the year on the road including a stop at the first annual Pemberton Festival in Vancouver, Canada this July.

Low Vs. Diamond has created an album full of romantic songs that build to stadium worthy choruses and soar with nostalgic sounding chords that grab you instantly. With its undeniable melodies and chugging backbeats, The Los Angeles Times applauded the band for "standing precipitously between overwrought melancholy and chimey hopefulness, avoiding both excesses… the band's music plays to an optimism that stops short of outright glee."
