Shout Factory reports: On October 2nd, Shout!
Factory will be releasing the upcoming Mickey Hart/Zakir Hussain CD, Global
Drum Project, the follow-up to the Grammy -winning Planet Drum fifteen
years ago. Planet Drum has the rare distinction as the first-ever Grammy
for Best World Music Album, having spent an unprecedented 26 weeks at #1
on the Billboard chart, still selling as a perennial favorite to this day.
This new collaboration provides a more
tranced-out experience, full of elegant electronic programming and hypnotic
tuned percussion making the Global Drum Project a distinct release occasionally
reminiscent of the pioneering Byrne/Eno release, My Life in the Bush of
Ghosts.
Masterfully produced by Hart and Hussain,
the Global Drum Project has pulled together some of the world's finest
drum talent: In addition to former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and
Indian tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain, who is an international phenomenon
in his own right, GDP includes Nigerian drum legend Babatunde Olatunji,
Nigerian talking drum master Sikiru Adepoju, and Puerto Rico's master conguero
Giovanni Hidalgo. Additional talent includes Taufiq Qureshi (brother to
Zakir Hussain) on percussion & vocals, Niladari Kumar on sitar, Dilshad
Khan on sarangi, and sampled vocals by the late, great Olatunji. The ensemble
will again tour the U.S. this fall in support of the release.-

In There, Dear Black Diary and Farewell to Freeway and have shared the

to the public and we are happy to release it on Year of the Sun. It should
be an excellent experience for all of us."

PR reports: Straylight Run have released a
video for the song "Soon We'll Be Living In The Future," off of their sophomore
album, The Needles The Space. The band will be on tour soon in support
of the release , dates coming soon
Asked about "Soon We'll Be Living in the
Future," John Nolan says: "I'm really happy with how that song turned out
because I was finally able to put a finger on a feeling I have about living
and dying. It's a frustrating and terrifying experience living with the
full knowledge that at any point in any day you could die, and what would
your life have meant? Everything you're doing what does it actually mean
in the context of your life as a whole? It's something I probably think
about too much. It's not a good idea to be too thoughtful about such things."
Says John of Straylight Run's evolving
sound, which he concedes is difficult to pigeonhole: "I love pop music;
I love hearing a well-written pop song. And I like a lot of music that's
experimental and weird. I'm always looking for ways to take a pop song
and rearrange it into something interesting and fresh and original." Michelle
remarks: "We're very lucky because our fans seem to be open to whatever
we do. That gives us the freedom to explore any idea we have."-

for the legendary thrash metal band Anthrax! The heavy metal veteran will
be appearing on the next episode of TLC's "L.A. Ink," which airs at 10PM
EST, and will no doubt rock Kat Von D and her crew harder than ever before.
In the ultimate heavy metal tribute, Ian
will be inked up with a tattoo of another hard rock hero, AC/DC's Angus
Young.
Ian commented on his appearance on the
show, saying: "Kat Von D is the best and her shop is called High Voltage,
so who and where better to get a tattoo of Angus Young?!?!"-

antiMusic reports: Morley keeps his great
interview series MorleyView rocking with a new interview with Scorpions'
Rudolf Schenker. Morley and Rudolf spoke recently about the new Scorpions
album and how it came about as well as the concept. Here is a small part
of their conversation. Rudolf: We came in October to Los Angeles with lots
of songs, new songs and stuff but then Desmond Child, he presented us with
his concept, called Humanity Hour One. And then he brought his designer
with him, who designed the album sleeve and the whole concept convinced
us. We said amazing. That's great. That's something which is more mature.
And he said you know guys I do the overview, I do the vocals, and here's
James Michael who will do the guitars, the bass and drums. It was a good
idea because to really have two parts doing this album is very good. Every
part is controlling the other part. In this case, you don't go too far,
you're staying very close to what we are looking for. And we started doing
this album, we started working with writers like Marti Frederickson, good
friend of ours and Eric Bazilian, and Jason Paige. And then James Michael,
he wrote also.
And we put the whole thing together, and
an album which really, it's a bridge between older Scorpions and new Scorpions.
The Scorpions of today. Because we don't want to sell the same car, with
the same model, every year. We want to go forward and make the styling
more up to date, especially in the days where you work with ProTools and
you record digital, there are more possibilities than you can work and
have fun.
I know when we did with Eye II Eye
we went a little too far because it was our first album to work with digital,
and for hard disk recording. But this time we said we want to do it in
the right way. So in this case we really put something together where we
built a bridge between the older style of Scorpions and the new one and
we also tried to really balance the more, darker side and the more hopeful
side of the songs on the album. In the end this whole album was just sounding
like Scorpions and also the level of the songwriting and everything is
high class. My favourite song is "Humanity," and it's important to us that
also when we do this song, that when you have a concept album, call it
concept album but in the old tradition, it's a concept album in the way
of building something around human. Humanity Hour One, means human
beings 10 thousand years on earth, what is done, what is happening and
where we go. What is the situation that we have to go? And in this case
we put a lot of stories together to give people a message, to give people
some great songs.

antiMusic reports: Matt White's new album
Best Days will be out Tuesday September 18th and his label is letting one
lucky fan host a private concert in their home. Here is part of the PR
blurb about it: Take one listen to the music of Matt White and you're hooked.
His songs are relatableyou'll think of the one who got your heart, the
pains and pleasures of growing up and the remarkable journey in discovering
just who the heck you are.
Drawing inspiration from Elton John, Jeff
Buckley, and Coldplay, (he's like Maroon 5 in one person), Matt White's
self-titled debut marks the arrival of a gifted songwriter who draws from
his own experience. Matt delivers a song with a smooth voice that will
immediately put the listener at ease.
Music is in Matt's DNAhis grandmother
was among the first jazz orchestra leaders in the 1930s. He grew up in
New Jersey and started taking piano lessons when he was three-years-old.
Sure, he was a member of the swim and lacrosse teams throughout high school,
but it was making music that made him happiest. Being the romantic he is,
he followed a girl to the University of Wisconsin where he taught himself
to play guitar since he "couldn't fit a piano" in his room. Ok enough of
all of that, want him to play a show at your house? Then go-

antiMusic reports: Greg Cipes's band Cipes
and The People will release their album Conscious Revolution this Fall.
You may know Cipes already. According to a PR blurb, An accomplished actor
on hit TV shows House, Ghost Whisperer, Without a Trace and Deadwood, a
voiceover artist on Disney Channel's W.I.T.C.H. and Super Robot Monkey
Team Hyperforce Go! along with Cartoon Network's Teen Titans and a professional
junior surfer, the Florida-born Cipes comes from a show business family.
His grandparents both acted professionally and his father was a TV director
who became successful in real estate, then traveled extensively with his
family, often taking them to the Bahamas, where Cipes heard reggae music
for the first time.
"I was divinely placed in a position to
see how the music made those living in poverty feel so good," he says.
"The culture and the warmth of the people always intrigued me."
Citing reggae, hip-hop and rock as his
main influences, the 27-year-old packed up his yellow Nissan Xterra and
moved to Los Angeles to study directing at USC, but dropped out within
weeks when he landed a pilot at Warner Bros. "Music has always been part
of my life," he says, citing such disparate inspirations as Bob Marley,
the Doors, Sublime and Miami bass rappers 2 Live Crew, whose battle for
freedom of speech attracted a young Cipes as much as their music. "But
it only started to take this form seven years ago."- Is
it worth buying? Listen and decide for yourself.

Bluefinger is not a retread
to familiar Pixies territory, but more a denser, full-bodied extension
of Frank Black's Honeycomb and Fasterman/Raiderman albums. This time, he
added a healthy dose of punk energy and some fantastically absurd and abstract
lyrics. (4 stars)
