Byzantine Preview Tracks
PR reports: West Virginia forward-thinking thrashers Byzantine will unveil two new tracks from their yet-to-be-released album on the band's MySpace page on Monday, October 1. The new album, entitled Oblivion Beckons is due out in early January 2008 through Prosthetic Records.

The tracks "Nadir" and "Expansion and Collapse" showcase the wider range that Byzantine has pursued on its newest release. "This is the very first Byzantine album in which all 4 members have contributed songs" Vocalist/rhythm guitarist OJ states, "and to my ears, it makes for a much more varied and interesting album from start to finish. This album is one hell of a ride!"

The follow-up to 2005's ...And They Shall Take Up Serpents, Oblivion Beckons was again recorded with producer Aaron Fischer and will feature art by longtime Byzantine collaborator Donnie Searls. - listen here

Matchbox Twenty TV Exile
PR reports: "Exile On Mainstream," the much-anticipated new album from Melisma/Atlantic recording group Matchbox Twenty, is set for release next Tuesday, October 2nd. A look back and a look ahead, "Exile On Mainstream" combines a six-track EP of new songs, produced by Grammy winner Steve Lillywhite, with a retrospective of the band's greatest hits culled from their previous three albums.

Matchbox Twenty will herald the album's release with a string of high-profile television appearances, including "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on October 4th, "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on October 5th, "Today" on October 8th, and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," also on the 8th.

Recorded in Los Angeles, the six new songs embody a central change for the band, with all group members writing the songs together at once. This is in contrast to Matchbox Twenty 's past three multi-platinum albums, where lead singer Rob Thomas wrote the lion's share of the material, with his bandmates adding their parts later. This time, guitarist Paul Doucette, guitarist Kyle Cook, and bassist Brian Yale were included from the beginning, and the collaborative effort spawned a distinctly new sound on the tracks, which marked the band's first work with Lillywhite.- more on this story

Kurt Cobain About a Son Premiers
PR reports: Over a decade after Kurt Cobain's death, the wildly iconic artist's voice penetrates the big screen in a new film documenting his story - Kurt Cobain About a Son. Directed by AJ Schnack, Cobain recounts his own life from his childhood and adolescence to his days of musical discovery and later dealings with explosive fame. Kurt Cobain About a Son will be screened on Wednesday, October 3 at the IFC Film Center in New York (323 Sixth Avenue) on Friday, October 5 at the Landmark Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles (11272 Santa Monica Blvd.) and on Friday, October 12 at the Varsity Theatre in Seattle (4329 University Way NE).

Produced by Sidetrack Films, Kurt Cobain About a Son is an intimate and moving meditation on the late musician and artist Kurt Cobain. Based on more than 25 hours of previously unheard audiotaped interviews conducted with Cobain by noted music journalist Michael Azerrad, originally conducted for his book "Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana," this film falls outside of documentary lines without celebrity sound bytes, news clips, sensational tabloid angles or attempts to mimic a grunge aesthetic.

Instead, filmmaker Schnack has created something closer to an autobiography of Cobain - a profound first hand account of the musician's own successes and failures, thoughts and experiences, allowing the audience unprecedented intimacy with a legendary figure in popular culture - set against the wildly divergent Pacific Northwest locations that loomed so large in Cobain's life.- You can find other screening information here

Tank Reissues
PR reports: One of the most influential formations which emerged in the beginnings of the N.W.O.B.H.M. madness was TANK - a fierce, ambitious young band, taking all that was the best in punk and metal to a higher level. The group was formed in Croydon (London, England) in 1980 by Alasdair "Algy" Mackie Ward, an experienced front man who wanted to go beyond his previous musical experiences, which included playing in The Saints and The Damned. Today Metal Mind Productions is proud to present the complete discography of TANK: "The Filth Hounds of Hades - Dogs of War 1981 - 2002".

The collection, containing Tank's full discography extended with exclusive bonus material, will be available in two editions: as a 9 CD BOX (8CD+DVD) and a 6 LP BOX. "The Filth Hounds of Hades - Dogs of War 1981 - 2002" includes the following albums: "Filth Hounds Of Hades", "Power Of Hunter", "This Means War", "Honour & Blood", "Tank", "Return Of A Filth Hound Live" (only in 9CD box), "War Of Attrition Live 1981" (only in 9CD box), "Still At War" plus a DVD with live material recorded over several years.

All CDs were remastered using 24-bit process and feature rare bonus tracks- more on this story

Setzer Puts the Orchestra in The Brian Setzer Orchestra
PR reports: The Brian Setzer Orchestra released their latest album this week, and Download.com summed it up almost perfectly: "For the third straight decade, the Stray Cat strutter has set about reminding a forgetful music audience how fun '30s music can be. Only this time, he means the 1730s.

And once you've heard Mozart done by a maestro of rockabilly guitar, you can finally safely say you've heard it all." Indeed, Wolfgang's Big Night Out, currently enjoying Top 20 sales at Amazon, features Setzer leading his 18-piece Rockin' Big Band through swing renditions of classical standards. We're talkin' Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn.- more on this story

Olehole Set Debut Show
PR reports: Olehole (pronounced o-lay ho-lay) consists of Brian Moss (ex-The Ghost / Hanalei / Wonder Years), Dan Wedgewood (ex-Burial Year / Quest For Quintanaroo), Jackson Blumgart (ex-Quest For Quintanaroo), and Alex Case.

Amidst a volatile social climate and a musical one of vast stagnation, the quartet pools from variety of influences, experiences, and personal traits with the unified objective of challenging both listeners and each other while keeping the razor's edge of contemporary counter-culture audio and lyricism sharp and ready for action.

On October 6th Olehole plays their debut show at The Apgar Coop (921 Apgar Oakland, CA) 8pm, All Ages, Donations. The band recently self-recorded a six song demo in the practice space. Four of those six songs are available for stream and download on their- myspace

Greg Summerlin Album Stream
PR reports: Greg Summerlin is once again behind the microphone for his most epic and poignant album to date, All Done In Good Time. Unafraid to wrestle with his own inspirations, Summerlin uses personal tragedy and triumph to unite four characters in a fluid symphonic melodrama.

Summerlin joined producer Ed Ackerson (Replacements, Golden Smog, Brian Setzer, Juliana Hatfield) in a cozy Minneapolis studio to record the album, and together, with grandiose Who-like execution, Summerlin and Ackerson triumphed in delivering a sincere record with songs to hook you into a sing along or embrace you in an epic tale.

Mixing business with pleasure, Summerlin is also the owner of Superphonic Records which has quickly become one of the leading indie labels in the Southeast, releasing albums by AA Bondy (Verbena), Louis Schefano (Regia, Remo Zero) and John P. Strohm (The Lemonheads, Blake Babies).- Stream the entire album here

....Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
The Foos long ago abandoned humor for a more grown up, morose view of life. Echoes is overflowing with that grown up attitude. A maturing group of Fighters is certainly not bad. If anything, it has added focus and consistency to their music. (3.5 stars) - Read the full Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace review
