antiMusic reports: It almost seems like only yesterday that Angels & Airwaves released their debut album but the band isn't messing around and a little over a year after that CD dropped they are already back with their sophomore effort, 'I-Empire,' which hits stores this week. To celebrate the release we asked Atom Willard to pick his favorite five tracks from the new CD and tell us a little bit about each one. Here is Atom with today's song "Call To Arms"This is easily one of my favorite songs I've EVER been a part of. Not only do I love the beat and feel, the whole build at the top came together so perfectly. We didn't have to work too hard on this one, it almost wrote itself, although we tried several versions of the bridge before we settled on what you hear now. It's an anthem, a get you off your ass kind of song, and it's so much fun to play live. Just in case you didn't know Angels & Airwaves is former blink-182 & Box Car Racer guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, Offspring drummer Atom Willard, David Kennedy from Box Car Racer and former 30 Seconds to Mars bassist Matt Wachter. Tom produced the new album. Preview some tracks from the CD, learn more about the band and CD and more

Jam! reports: Officers are investigating how a sheriff's deputy was injured as Britney Spears was leaving a downtown courthouse last week, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Friday. "We are aware that Britney Spears was leaving the courthouse," said Officer Jason Lee, a police spokesman. "We are also aware that a deputy was injured, but we're unable to confirm the details on the deputy's injury because the investigation is in its initial stage." The celebrity website TMZ.com reported authorities are investigating whether Spears ran over the deputy's foot with her car as she was leaving an Oct. 26 hearing on her efforts to obtain joint custody of her two children with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

antiMusic reports: You would think university students would be a little too old for the TRL friendly My Chemical Romance but apparently one university didn't think so and booked the band to perform. However, the band pulled the plug a short time before they were to hit the stage and the university is mad, mad, mad. Gigwise has the report: My Chemical Romance could be facing legal proceedings from an American university over a cancelled show last weekend. The band were due to play the University of Maine last Saturday (October 27), but pulled out at the eleventh hour blaming an apparent "medical issue" within in the band. Now the Student Government at the campus have sent two letters to the band asking for $20,500 to cover "lost" costs, covering money paid out for advertising, money paid to contractors and compensation costs.

BBC reports: Veteran rockers The Eagles have topped the UK album chart for the first time. No band has ever taken longer to reach number one, with a 33-year gap between their debut UK hit, On the Border, and this release, Long Road Out of Eden. The success of the US group's first full studio album since The Long Run in 1979 means Britney Spears has had to settle for second place with Blackout.

antiMusic reports: We get all kinds of emails from bloggers and website owners telling how great their site is and asking us to tell you, our readers, about them. Now if we did this with everyone, we wouldn't have room for real news but every once in a while a site doesn't come up that is worthy of the extra attention. So today we tell you about thecopycat.biz, a site devoted to exposing artists that rip off other artists and a quick browse of the site is indeed eye opening. The obvious one is the recent flap over Rihanna's apparent rip off of New Order's 'Blue Monday' with her track 'Shut up and drive'. They point out that "The suspicious thing, U might not know about, is that 'shut up Rihanna and drive away' is the only track on the album's list with no credits (sic!)." Something we didn't know as your as likely to find a Rihanna CD at antiMusic as a working microphone at a Britney Spears concert. Seems this wasn't the only song that Rihanna has supposedly lifted from another artist. The funny thing is they seemed to have found another artist, the much hyped J Holiday ripping off Rihanna's rip off of a Cranberries song. That's only the tip of the iceberg, you'll be surprised as some of their findings. Check out the site and learn more about musical copycats

antiMusic reports: "Mr. Hand since I'm here and you're here doesn't it make it OUR time?" What a different an s in a name can make as a memo at the "new EMI" issued by Guy Hands has leaked and shows he's a bit shocked at how the music business does business and he blasts artists that don't work hard enough for the label and instead focus on how much money they can get in advance money. Imagine that, a major record label executive concerned that artists focus too much on money. There is real irony in that. Wait until he starts reading the contacts the artists signed and learns where they go the idea from! The BBC has the story: The new owner of the music group EMI has said some of its artists are not working hard enough and its labels will become more picky in future. EMI was bought by Guy Hands' Terra Firma private equity house in August for £2.4bn. In an internal memo obtained by the Financial Times, Mr Hands set out his plans for the future of EMI. "Some [artists] unfortunately simply focus on negotiating for the maximum advance," he said. Unlike the investment banking world that Mr Hands is more used to in which bonuses are linked to performance, advances are paid to artists regardless of the success of their albums - "advances which are often never repaid", the memo bemoaned.
