Over the last two weeks, the Music Nation panel of judges has voted, with
input from the public, to narrow down the 54 quarterfinalists to six remaining
competitors. Now, these finalists from each of Music Nation’s three genres
— rock, pop and urban — go head to head in hopes of earning a global recording
contract with Epic Records. With judges like Joel and Benji Madden of Good
Charlotte, producer Howard Benson (rock), producer Jonathan “J.R.” Rotem,
Charlie Walk, President of Epic Records (pop), and multi-platinum rappers
Nelly and The Game as well as Mark Pitts, President of Urban Music at Jive
Records (urban), the Music Nation competition has been a chance for unsigned
acts to have their music heard by some of the premier figures in the music
industry.
From now until May 20th, the public will

last week will determine the three winners – one from each genre – who

Bad
Brains of a Down |
PR reports: Bad Brains have confirmed that
Shavo Odadjian from System Of A Down will direct the first video off the
forthcoming album Build A Nation. Production will be in Portland and also
at Sasquatch Festival later this month, where Bad Brains will be performing.
It will be documented and a "making of the video" will also be filmed.
"I've been a fan of the Brains ever since
I can remember. They are iconic pioneers of punk, not just the music but
the attitude. The energy that comes off their stage is like no other. HR's
performances have effected not only my band, but almost every heavy band
in our era. Another major inspiration is their message of trying to promote
righteousness and living the righteous way. I am going to rock this video
for the Brains and try to capture their intense energy. It's a big responsibility...
I'm honored." says Shavo.[see full story for more]- Click

Haste
The Day Has Myspace in Stitches |
PR reports: On Wednesday, May 16th, 2007 MySpace
will host the world premiere of Haste The Day’s music video for “Stitches”,
the first single off the bands third album, Pressure The Hinges.
Shot in Los Angeles, California with director
Dan Dobi (Bleeding Through, Cannibal Corpse) at the helm, the video shows
a powerful band performance with undercutting images between two different
stories. Both stories have the same theme; however each story has an individual
feel, characters and problems.
“Stitches” was written by Haste The Day
members Brennan Chaulk and Stephen Keech and Keech states what the inspiration
behind it is, “Everyone knows at least one person in their life who destroyed
their life with drugs or alcohol. The song is about the need of intervention
from a loved one (friend or family member), and the use of five words that
can change that person’s life: you're worth more than this. Sometimes we,
as the loved one, have a hard time saying those words creating stitches
in our mouth.”[see full story for more]- Click

What
Does Star Wars and Poison Have in Common? |
PR reports: In honor of the 30th anniversary
of the Star Wars saga, Poison drummer Rikki Rockett has been interviewed
by the mysterious Maul Stanley (a parody hybrid of Star Wars character
Darth Maul and Kiss guitarist Paul Stanley). As part of this special week-long
event, Maul Stanley has also interviewed members of Twisted Sister, Cinderella
and Quiet Riot regarding their own unique Star Wars experiences. A few
excerpts from the Rikki Rockett interview follow: Maul Stanley: Do you
see any similarities between what you do with Poison and what George Lucas
did with Star Wars?
Rikki Rockett: The thing that always impressed
me about the Star Wars universe was that everything looked used and worn.
George Lucas was the first to do that. He'd created this futuristic, space-age
movie but everything in it was dirty! The vehicles were dirty, the clothes
were dirty, everything was dirty. With Poison too, everything was dirty.
Especially in the beginning! Even though we were a glam band, we had still
a certain unclean quality about us. We'd earn $100 bucks for playing a
country club, then go to a second-hand shop to put together new outfits.
That's why we used to look like we got dressed in the dumpster of a lingerie
store! I think we lost some of that as we went along and people started
making our stage clothes for us, but Poison and Star Wars both started
out with that same element of dirt. I would also say that both George Lucas
and Poison pushed the envelope in what we set out to accomplish. Poison
did it by combining so many different styles of music into our own brand
of rock & roll. We shoved 40 lbs. of s*** into a 10 lb. bag! Pop, punk,
glam, glitter... you name it, we borrowed from it. Lucas did something
similar by taking elements of science-fiction, action adventure and cliffhanger
serials and combining them with revolutionary special effects and classic
storytelling techniques. Whether you're doing sci-fi or rock & roll,
it still has to come from an original place, a personal place. If you can
do that, you'll have a winner on your hands. [check out the entire interview

Shocked Goes To Church for New CD |
PR reports: “Ask me about my religion,” writes
Michelle Shocked in her “womanifesto” for her forthcoming album. “Of course,
no one ever does.” But it’s all part of her long musical journey: “I was
moved by the power of rock ‘n’ roll. And if you follow the trail from rock
‘n’ roll, it always leads you back to the blues, sweet soul music and finally
to the churches and gospel music.” In Shocked’s case, it led to the West
Angeles COGIC mass choir in the heart of South Central Los Angeles, where
she now tries “living by the Good Book, and putting out a gospel record.”
The resulting album, titled (and spelled)
ToHeavenURide, is scheduled for August 21, 2007 release on Mighty Sound
through Megaforce/RED. [see full story for more]- Click
