Alan
Vega Sets Release |
PR reports: Alan Vega – one-half of the seminal
electronic duo Suicide – is to release "Station" on July 31, 2007 through
Blast First / Mute. "Station" marks the latest decisive stage in a musical
journey that began for Alan Vega way back in 1970 in downtown New York.
A visual artist and singer, Vega teamed up with the classically trained
Martin Rev to form Suicide. Always ahead of their time, Vega and Rev were
the first to use the word “punk” in a musical context. Together they formed
Suicide, whose minimalist music, a fusion of Rev's ominous, repetitive
keyboards and Vega's rockabilly snarl, helped paved the way for the electronic
artists of the future. Meanwhile, Vega’s own music continued to evolve
and amaze. "Station" – Vega's 10th solo record – was recorded in New York
between 2004 - 2006 and is not only self-produced, all instruments are
played by Vega as well.

Recoil
Returns |
PR reports: After a 6-year break from recording,
musician / producer and former Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder returns
with Recoil’s 5th studio album, subHuman, released on Mute on July 31,
2007. Collaborating with Recoil on subHuman is Louisiana native and bluesman
Joe Richardson, and English singer Carla Trevaskis who has worked with
artists as diverse as Fred de Faye (Eurythmics), Cliff Hewitt (Apollo 440)
and Dave McDonald (Portishead).
Wilder's skill at blending diverse and
eclectic musical styles with often controversial subjects has produced
an album of complex sonic imagery and expansive dynamic range. subHuman
asks us to reach within ourselves and extract the very essence of what
makes us human - and more importantly what allows us to subordinate others,
sometimes with the most brutal consequences. We are all subHuman in somebody’s
eyes…

Herb
Alpert Rises Again |
PR reports: Shout! Factory, in partnership
with music legend Herb Alpert, expands the label’s historic Herb Alpert
Signature Series reissue program with the fully restored and remastered
release of Alpert’s disco-infused 1979 masterpiece, RISE.
Alpert’s artistic comeback started with
the release of “Rise,” a down-tempo dance single departing from Alpert’s
signature Tijuana Brass sound. It climbed to number one on the Billboard
charts and became the biggest hit of his career. Every album in the Herb
Alpert Signature Series has been meticulously remastered under Alpert’s
personal supervision, and the expanded CD booklets include new liner notes
with reflections from Alpert himself. The 11 previous releases in the series
include Whipped Cream & Other Delights, The Lonely Bull, Going Places,
rarities collection Lost Treasures and many more. RISE joins the Herb Alpert
Signature Series on CD May 29, 2007 with two previously unreleased tracks,
for the suggested list price of $13.98.

album Come What(ever) May on Roadrunner Records on June 26. The special
edition is jam-packed with extensive bonus material. The audio portion
boasts six previously unreleased and unavailable tracks, including an acoustic
cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game," recorded live for a Canadian radio

full concert performance. Filmed in October 2006 in Moscow at the RAMP
awards, the concert documents Stone Sour's first and only visit to Russia,
a must-have for fans.
"Now before all of you fans get upset about
a re-release, (because I know how you are), let me just say that I am an
avid music fan and a record collector. That's why, when the decision was
made to release a special edition, we knew that it had to be just that:
special," says guitarist Josh Rand. "We added everything we could possibly
get our hands on, including an entire show from Russia, making it only
the greatest special edition ever! You guys are gonna love it!"[see full

Mugwumps
CD Finally Being Reissued |
PR reports: The Mugwumps are best known as
the band immortalized in autobiographical song by the Mamas & the Papas.
Many know of them, but few have heard their one 1967 album for Warner Bros.
Records. Until now, that is, as Collectors’ Choice Music prepares its June
5 reissue of The Mugwumps’ self-titled album.
“This was the first folk-rock group ever,”
Cass Elliot boasted to Johnny Carson about The Mugwumps. In a sense it’s
true. Born of the late Greenwich Village folk scene just as many of its
proponents prepared to colonize Laurel Canyon, the band consisted of Cass
Elliot and Denny Doherty (later of the Mamas & the Papas), Zalman Yanovsky
(future guitarist for the Lovin’ Spoonful) and Jim Hendricks. A small amount
of cross-pollination occurred in the group’s formation: Cass and her erstwhile
husband Jim had been in Cass Elliot & the Big Three, a progressive
folk outfit. Canadians Denny and Zal hailed from The Haliax Three, a more
traditional folk trio. In early ’64, Zal and Denny launched a rock alter
ego called The Noise. Also in ’64, Cass introduced Zal to John Sebastian
by claiming Ringo Starr was with her. A historic connection was made as
Zal and John went off to form the Lovin’ Spoonful, while Cass and Denny
joined John & Michelle Phillips to form the Mamas & the Papas,
who pioneered rock’s “California Dreamin’” era.[see full story for more]-
