Ron
Spears Joins Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver |
PR reports: Some men celebrate their 63rd
birthday by starting a countdown to retirement, but for bluegrass legend--and
road warrior--Doyle Lawson, April 20th was a milepost on the way to one
of his busiest and most successful seasons yet. Fresh off taping an episode
of GAC's Edge Of Country with Kylie Harris (air dates June 23rd & June
25th) that focuses on his newest release, More Behind the Picture than
the Wall (Rounder), Lawson paused to break some big news before heading
back on the road.
"I'm happy to announce that the new member
of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver will be Ron Spears," he said. "Ron will
be playing bass and handling lead and harmony vocals. Ron is a longtime
student and fan of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, and he understands the
style--when we got together, the vocal blend with the trio and quartet
was extremely pleasing to my ear. I'm looking forward to his vocal input
as well as having another songwriter in the band." Spears, who penned "Ocean
Of Teardrops" on Lawson's latest release, will start his new duties with
Quicksilver on a yet-to-be-determined date. - Click

Hits and Leftovers |
PR reports: On the heels of the band’s first
US Gold album and in anticipation of a major US tour, Finnish rockers HIM
will drop two new releases in May. And Love Said No: Greatest Hits 1997-2004
(May 8th) is a digitally remastered anthology celebrating their first decade

two new songs for this set, the title track and a rocking cover of Neil
Diamond’s classic “Solitary Man.”
Uneasy Listening Vol. 2, which hits stores

14th of last year). Both albums are collections of previously unreleased
versions of the band’s classic tracks. Uneasy Listening Vol. 2 features
rarities and hard-to-find versions of some of HIM’s biggest hits. This
special album includes demos, remixes, live and alternate studio recordings
of the band’s heavier repertoire. Much of this material has never before
been released and is highlighted by the highly sought after version of
“Buried Alive By Love” featured in Bam Margera’s CKY4 DVD.

Sculptured
recruit Winds member for new CD |
PR reports: Sculptured’s Don Anderson provides
an update on the band’s forthcoming third album, titled Embodiment, due
out sometime in 2007 on THE END RECORDS. Posts Anderson, "I'm very happy
to announce that Andy Winter (Winds, Age of Silence) has already begun
recording keyboards for the forthcoming Sculptured album “Embodiment” due
sometime later this year." In regards to the material Andy has contributed,
Don says, “Andy’s keyboards add a whole new dimension to the sound. I had
originally planned only a guest keyboard solo, but after hearing his ideas
I was very excited about his involvement in the project as a whole. We
both love vintage keyboard sounds and so Andy’s work reminds me of all
the 70s prog bands I love like Museo Rosenbach, ELP, and Goblin.” [see

Mojave3
Evolves into Loose Salute |
PR reports: Mojave3 members form new band
The Loose Salute. Fans of Fleetwood Mac, The Byrds, The Mamas and the Papas,
Wilco and Midlake tune in to debut album Tuned To Love, which will hit
stores on June 12th. The Loose Salute came to life a couple years ago when
Mojave3’s Ian McCutcheon (drums & vocals) and Alan Forrester (piano
& organ) were in the studio recording the band’s third album Excuses
for Travelers. One day at the Fortress Rehearsal Studios’ café,
McCutcheon overheard Lisa Billson (vocals) belting out Bob Dylan’s “Sad-eyed
Lady of the Lowlands,” while she cooked at the studio café.
Instantly impressed by Billson’s pipes,
he asked the songbird if she’d be interested in singing a few tunes he’d
written. She loved the songs and got friend Charlotte King (harmonies &
percussion) to lend back-ups. Guitarist Pete Greenwood, who played with
McCutcheon and Forrester on the last Mojave3 tour, was asked to join the
clan shortly thereafter. Together --sometimes with the help of Paul Noble
on added bass, surf guitar and mixing skills -- they form The Loose Salute.[see
