TVT Ink The Polyphonic Spree
PR reports: Dallas symphonic rock group THE POLYPHONIC SPREE have signed with TVT RECORDS for the release of their third full-length album, THE FRAGILE ARMY. The new album's title was given to the group by director/filmmaker/artist Mike Mills, whose 2005 film Thumbsucker was scored by the Spree's Tim DeLaughter. THE FRAGILE ARMY reveals a collection of sonic blasts filtered thru The Polyphonic Spree's trademark sound: an unorthodox blend of brass, strings, choir and auxiliary rock elements. The album explores a search for the zeal in life, by way of loss and frustration, confusion and clarity. Ultimately, the Spree discover the power of love and the collective of hope in songs such as "Running Away," "Light To Follow" and "Overblow Your Nest." The album will be in stores in June 2007 (exact release date TBA). [see full story for tracklist]- Click Here for the Full Story

Metal And Porn
PR reports: Powerful heavy metal music and skin-slappin’ hardcore sex collide in Radium, a revolutionary adult-oriented music series from the world-bending mind of Matt Zane. In this new line, available exclusively from Pleasure Productions, Zane realizes a dream of combining metal’s sexual energy with porno’s lustful sensuality all in a single series. “Metal has a huge fan base around the world, and I know from touring the world and speaking with all the fans that about 99% love porn,” says Zane, an acclaimed adult director and world-renowned front man for the metal band Society 1.

Sharing Zane’s passion for music and sex, Pleasure Productions’ Tera Wray will host the unique series. Zane hand-picked newcomer Wray after witnessing her energy and appeal while shooting her for his “Tattooed & Tight” series. For the series’ first episode, Tera will visit California Metal Fest 2007, at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana, CA, and will interview the band “With Passion” before introducing their new music video. She will also get a drum lesson from Society 1 drummer, Berzerk Kirk. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Static-X Destroyer
PR reports: With only three weeks till the release of Static-X’s album on April 3rd, the band wants to give their fans another taste of Cannibal. “Destroyer” is the second track off of the new album with the raw heavy sound that Wayne Static wanted to bring this time. “I focused on stripping away the excess as much as possible to write short, simple, catchy songs,” Static says. This back-to-basics style for Cannibal has a lot to do with Wayne taking over most of the producer duties. Static teamed with producer/engineer John Travis (Kid Rock, Buckcherry) to help create the new sound. “I had a vision for this record, which is why I wanted to produce it myself,” Static says.

Check out the new track from Static-X and look for the new album, Cannibal, in stores on April 3rd. [see full story for a listen]- Click Here for the Full Story

We Are I EP
PR reports: What was the last band that managed to successfully merge classic rock's multi-layered sound with prog metal sonic exploration? Few have been so bold - but Boston's We Are I are no average band. "Everybody in the band is a really great player," explains guitarist Rich Chamberland. "It's really diverse. Jay Staples (singer) is a freak - he's very melodic, his voice has a Freddie Mercury-like quality to it. Keenan Wakem (bass) is amazing - his stage show is killer. New blood, Ralph Arsenault (drummer) has kicked the band up an extra notch."

On the heels of their first release, 'Off the Hook,' the quartet has just unleashed a self-titled EP produced by Anthony J. Resta, who has worked with the likes of Collective Soul, Megadeth, Perry Farrell, and Elton John. "Listen to our music, it's heavy but melodic, everybody sings. This is a four-part-harmony band. What you hear is what you get. We don't 'kind of pull it off.' I like to think of us as a 'hybrid band,' not alternative. We fuse together a lot of influences. When you listen to the music, you've got Jay delivering rapid fire lyrics, with the band playing three over four time, so it's like Tool but a little crazier - controlled chaos hybrid rock."[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Evil Dead The Musical
PR reports: From the moment the cast launches into “What the F—k Was That,” “Blew That B--- Away,” and the Rocky Horror “Time Warp” homage “Do the Necronomicon,” it’s frighteningly clear that Evil Dead The Musical ups the ante from the standard Broadway theater fare. Peppered with enough four-letter words to make a grown man blush and bursting with more farce than a Monty Python skit, the original cast recording to Evil Dead The Musical will be released on April 24th(Time Life).[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Gutterfly Set Release
PR reports: Straight outta Portland, Lifesavas stay ahead of the game with a new album entitled Gutterfly, a concept-driven ensemble of tracks that are both densely rich in production and stylistically beautiful. Gutterfly, the follow-up to the duo's debut release Spirit in Stone, will hit stores April 24, 2007 on Quannum Projects.

Gutterfly was inspired by a blaxploitation film project that was conceived and only partially completed by Brooklyn native Baraka Feldman in the early 80's (who later moved to Portland and shared his ideas with the Lifesavas), in addition to blaxploitation films from the 70's, in particular Coonskin and the Zatoichi series of Japanese cult films. Gutterfly is a movie concept brought to life in the way Lifesavas do art best; through poetic lyricism and powerhouse beats. Lifesavas created characters - a trio of ghetto superheroes for the 00's - Bumpy Johnson (VURSATYL), Sleepy Floyd (JUMBO) and Jimmy Slimwater (DJ Rev SHINES) - through which they were able to leap into subjects they'd yet to cover in their music.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Carla Thomas Stax Reissue
PR reports: Carla Thomas became famous thanks to several great singles on Stax Records: “Gee Whiz,” “B-A-B-Y,” “Let Me Be Good To You” and a duet with Otis Redding, “Tramp.” In 1969, she recorded The Queen Alone, produced by Stax co-founder and president Jim Stewart, in which the Queen of Memphis Soul proved that she was keenly aware of the uptown soul music being produced in the industrial north. The album produced two hits — “Something Good (is Going to Happen to You),” penned by the hot team of Isaac Hayes and David Porter, which notched No. 29 on Billboard’s R&B singles chart, and “I’ll Always Have Faith in You,” written by Eddie Floyd with Stax’s then-promotion man Al Bell, which reached No. 11.

The classic soul album will be reissued on the reactivated Stax Records through Concord Music Group on March 20 as part of the label’s yearlong series of 50th Anniversary events. The remastered reissue contains four previously unreleased tracks, plus liner notes by Stax historian Rob Bowman, author of the award-winning Soulsville U.S.A.: The Story of Stax Records.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Today's Reviews
....The Snake The Cross The Crown - Cotton Teeth
Brothers Franklin and William Sammons continue the catchy, jangly guitar and pop-friendly piano jaunts in Cotton Teeth, an album oozing with Radar Brothers-like folk jams and heart-felt lyrics that lazily slip off Sammons' tongue with a touch of twang. (4 stars) - Read the full The Snake The Cross The Crown - Cotton Teeth review

....Mezzanine Owls - Slingshot Echoes
Slingshot Echoes is the best unsigned release since Clap Your Hands…, but once this is released on a label (which would only make sense unless the band is intentionally anti-establishment), there is no reason for it not to take off like Turn on the Bright Lights. (5 stars) - Read the full Mezzanine Owls - Slingshot Echoes review

....Malevolent Creation – Stillborn
There is no such thing as a band that can constantly create masterpiece after masterpiece without a bad release. No matter how strong a band starts out, they'll eventually run out of ideas and make something not up to par with their other releases.- Read the full Malevolent Creation – Stillborn review
