PR reports: After four years of constant touring
– including a breathtaking performance at the 2007 Coachella Music Festival
– Jose Gonzalez returns with his second album "In Our Nature" released
September 25, 2007.
"In Our Nature" sees Gonzalez coming into
his own as a songwriter – with songs that are as instantly accessible as
they are brimming with darkness and brooding intensity. "I like playing
with symbolism," says Gonzalez. "On this album I’ve wanted to bring out
the primitive aspects of human beings." In addition to Gonzalez on guitar
and vocals are Erik Bodin, percussion and Yukimi Nagamo, backing vocals.
The album art for "In Our Nature" is done by Elias Araya,, who also did
the artwork for Veneer.[see full story for more]- Click

PR reports: Elvis Costello's Pop And Classical
Sides Showcased On Two Rhino DVDs In 1993 legendary tunesmith Elvis Costello
composed, performed and produced THE JULIET LETTERS with the renowned classical
Brodsky Quartet. Calling it a "song sequence for string quartet and voice,"
this unique project was inspired by a collection of letters written by
an Italian literature professor who answered missives addressed to Shakespeare's
Juliet. Fusing pop sensibilities and chamber music, the collection gave
new meaning to "alternative music." Available for the first time ever on
DVD, Rhino Entertainment will release THE JULIET LETTERS on May 22 for
a suggested list price of $14.99.
LIVE: A CASE FOR SONG filmed at the BBC
in London, features Elvis Costello along with the Attractions, the Brodsky
Quartet and the White City Septet. LIVE: A CASE FOR SONG is finally being
released for the first time ever on DVD and now features Dolby 5.1 Surround
Sound, plus 6 additional performances which were never available on the
original VHS release. Rhino Entertainment will release LIVE: A CASE FOR
SONG June 26 for a suggested list price of $14.99.[see full story for more]-

PR reports: The Afghan Whigs stood apart from
their contemporaries in the grunge-soaked '90s by injecting an element
of soulful R&B strut to the band's hard-edged, post-punk aggression.
More than 15 years after the acclaimed group's debut, the music's cocksure
swagger, dynamic arrangements and polished lyricism still sound fresh.
The band recently reconvened for the first time after splitting in 2001
to record a pair of new songs for The Afghan Whigs' first-ever, career-spanning
compilation. The album, Unbreakable: A Retrospective 1990-2006 will be
available from Rhino Records June 5th.
UNBREAKABLE contains 18 tracks that span
the band's career and includes more than an hour of music drawn from one
EP and five studio albums (two each with Sub Pop and Elektra and one with
Columbia). The album also features the debut of two previously unreleased
songs -- the newly recorded "I'm A Soldier" and "Magazine," a song written
shortly before the band broke up, but left unfinished.[see full story for

PR reports: Are you ready to tweak out this
summer? Because on July 5th The Sleeping will embark on a full US extravaganza
known as The "Flip On A Tweak Realm and Set It (Off)" Tour. This happens
to be OUR FIRST HEADLINING TOUR EVER!!! It is an amazing feeling and we
are extremely excited!! We will be doing different legs of this tour and
we will be bringing bands we not only think rock... but who are just all
around good people that understand the importance of hard work and honesty.
The bands/bros we will be bringing are: Envy On the Coast (7/06-7/17) -
A Thorn for Every Heart (7/18-8/03) - I Am the Avalanche (8/04-8/17) -
A Day to Remember (ALL DATES) - Valeyra (ALL DATES)
We cannot wait to hit the road with all
of our good friends in these incredible bands. Although, there is something
else we would like to mention. Every day we come across so many young bands
who have been working their asses off trying to make a name for themselves.
We see how important this life is to those doing it for the sake of working
hard and bringing back honest music to the fans and that is something we
have always appreciated. We told ourselves that one day if we ever got
the chance, we would do our best to help out as many of those bands as
possible.
So many bands get to a certain level and
forget the fact that they once struggled to be where they are. Some take
for granted the fact that they had good Family, friends etc. from every
angle believing in them and being supportive when they were at their worst
of times and we think that sucks. So with that said, we will be adding
a local band on every single bill in every single city. Some will be good
friends, some will be who we have met at gas stations and some will be
found on the good ole' Information Super Highway. No matter how we find
them, we WILL have a local band on every show. We might not know locals
in every town we play, so we set up an email and myspace so people can
let us know. Tell us about the best bands we don’t know here www.myspace.com/196158479

PR reports: ThrashPit's Matt Hensch has set
out on a new mission. While not news we figured a lot of the Day in Rock
readers would be interested. Here is Matt to tell you a bit about it: There
are literally hundreds of metal albums that stand as classics in the genre:
Iron Maiden's Seventh son of a Seventh son, Black Sabbath's Paranoid,
Slayer's Reign in Blood. I could go on forever listing all the
great albums metal has produced, but such a huge genre is bound to leave
some classics buried in the dust. Do albums of this glorious magnitude
remain forgotten, or do they even exist at all? To answer the question:
yes, there are MANY fantastic metal CDs floating around the world that
didn't receive proper attention or coverage in their own time. You can
certainly find rare CDs to buy, but which ones are good? Which bands are
great? What do they sound like?
Don't stress out, because with my new column,
Unearthing the Vaults, you will get my take on unknown bands and
their great CDs, but with fun facts about the group and the easiest purchasing
method with a short bio written by me. Unearthing the Vaults will
run twice a month, and will feature a new band each time. The first edition
was published today, so any metal fans looking for some rare stuff will
want to check this column out! [see the full story link for the kick off
