PR reports: Sam Sparro orbits into our stratosphere
like a messenger from the future sent to hold off the end of summer blues
with one last wild party. As he says in the lead track "S.A.M.S.P.A.R.R.O."
of the EP Black & Gold, out August 21 on Modus Vivendi Music, he has
a lot to say and a lot to do.
In "S.A.M.S.P.A.R.R.O.," Sam blasts through
the sound barrier on an incessant meladrone beat, brandishing a vocoder
to synthesize his voice, shrouding the purity of his lush, soulful instrument
to minimize the impact upon ears dulled by lesser pop singers. He's the
dance scene shepherd preparing to lead us to sounds and places we long
to go.- more

BW&BK reports: Former PAGAN'S MIND guitarist
Thorstein Aaby, who played on the band's 2000 debut Infinity Divine and
2002 follow-up Celestial Entrance, has passed away today (July 24th). He
was 36. A statement from the band reads as follows:
On the night of 24th of July, our dear
friend Thorstein passed on. After a long time of illness, things took a
turn for the worse the last weeks. Thorstein has been a respected member
of the local music environment since the mid-eighties, later nationwide
and also outside of Norwegian borders - all well deserved.
Well known for his skills with the guitar
as well as his easy going personality - he was the kind of guy who got
more and more friends for each gig he did.- more

PR reports: Friday the thirteenth, 2007, was
indeed "A Night of Mayhem" at the Lakewood Theater in north Dallas. The
Hillbilly Orchestra hosted writer/photographer Chris A., Alrosa Villa Hero
James Niggemeyer and several hundred guests at the third annual event.
"A Night of Mayhem" commemorated the incredible life and ultimate sacrifice
of Damageplan Security Chief Jeffery "Mayhem" Thompson.*
According to Mark John Sternal of MJS Music
Publications, the benefit not only gave fitting tribute to Mayhem but also
raised money to help treat and prevent mental illness. MJS is the publisher
of A Vulgar Display of Power: Courage and Carnage at the Alrosa Villa,
which tells the story of the men and the events leading to the horrific
murders. Copies of the book were sold at the event and all proceeds have
been allotted for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), in loving
memory of Jeffery "Mayhem" Thompson.- more
