PR reports: Eagle Vision will release a precedent-setting
boxed set of Rory Gallagher—Live At Rockpalast: 5 Concerts 1976-1990—on
August 7 that contains nine hours of footage on three DVDs. Gallagher (1948-1995)
scaled international heights of electric blues fame when he married hard
rock to urban blues in the course of a brilliant career that tragically
ended at age 47 from complications of liver surgery.
Starting with power trio Taste in 1969
London, his fetish for American blues artists like Buddy Guy, Freddie King,
Albert King, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker turned into an obsession.
Three Taste albums later, he ventured solo in 1971 to fully explore his
blues fascination. Fourteen albums later, he was hailed as one of the finest
living practitioners of the art form. He was so respected that two of his
heroes, Muddy Waters and Albert King, asked him to record with them and
he did on Waters' The London Sessions and King's Live, where he proved
himself an exemplary blues sideman. - more

PR reports: Musab's Gettoe Juice is the antithesis
of Nelly's popularized Pimp Juice. While many rappers utilize the latter
as an attractant, the intrinsic beverage Musab speaks of is a DEET-like
emcee repellant. The irony here, of course, is that Musab - not Nelly -
is a real live pimp by day.
"Kool Aid," at face value, is a verbal
critique and subsequent dismissal of today's emerging rap trends: "Rap
is like sex/ Most don't know what they're doing, but every Tom, Dick, and
Harry think he the best." Upon further scrutiny, however, one sees that
Musab is also self-aware; he references Ecclesiastes' claim that true innovation
does not exist and even ridicules his own beat as passé. Perhaps
the first "hatin'-on-the-rap-game" cut to actually diss itself mid-verse,
"Kool Aid" leaves no one unscathed. With a catchy, scratchy, and soulful
vocal sample alongside jagged, electric guitars courtesy of Led Zepp[e]lin,
the production serves as the perfect assault to Musab's battery.-

PR reports: For the very first time, in a
music career that spans five decades, James Luther Dickinson -- Jim Dickinson’s
recording artist alter ego -- has made an album that will be released by
the same label as his previous record. It was just last year that Memphis
International unleashed Jungle Jim & The Voodoo Tiger on an unsuspecting
world and that album was only his third in 34 years. Now, a little over
a year later, comes Killers From Space, a new set of songs collected and
cultivated by Dickinson and produced by the artist, along with Memphis
International’s David Less. Release date is September 18th.-

PR reports: Southern California ska-punk-reggae
act Buck-O-Nine's latest album, Sustain, is christened with the most poignant
term that could be applied when summarizing the band's whirlwind course
throughout the past several years. From the extreme highs and chaos that
often comes along with being a full-time touring band, to the incalculable
lows of returning to “normal life,” the lyrical content and feel of the
music emanates from deep within the hearts of the band’s members.
Sustain out on August 7— produced by the
Buck-O-Nine with engineer Jeff Forrest in early 2007 and mixed by Jason
Livermore (Lagwagon, Descendents) — is the band’s first new studio full-length
since 1999's Libido.- more

PR reports: Jason Spooner is offering up preview
tracks from his new CD 'The Flame You Follow' on his Myspace page.
Here is a little info on the release: This
multi-award winning New England-based songwriter discovered his father’s
collection of eight-track tapes as a child and never looked back. After
early exposure to songwriter legends like Neil Young, Paul Simon, Jim Croce
and Van Morrison along with Motown heavies like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder
and Gladys Knight, Jason was inspired to start making the rounds on coffee
house stages in his teens. Shortly thereafter, he spent time in Europe
performing in folk & blues clubs and on the streets of London and around
Spain. Once back in the states, he landed a job at a roots & blues
record label where he witnessed numerous Blues legends (including members
of the original Muddy Waters band ) making magic in recording sessions.
Before long, Jason jumped head-first into the Northeast's burgeoning songwriter
scene. The maturity and strength of his impressive debut album “Lost Houses”
quickly began to turn the heads of fans and critics alike. Within a few
months of the release, he added a blistering rhythm section (Andy Rice
and Reed Chambers) to the supporting cast, establishing The Jason Spooner
Trio as one of the most interesting and noteworthy up-and-coming acts since
Kathleen Edwards or Martin Sexton.- Intrigued?

PR reports: The Phantom Family Halo is not
a cult. Members of The For Carnation, Slint and Dead Child take to the
road this summer in support of debut album.
The Phantom Family Halo may be most immediately
notable for its pedigree -- members of indie rock royalty The For Carnation,
Slint, Dead Child, et al. But, it's the band's sound that becomes the most
remarkable upon first listen: Think Syd Barrett and jamming with Hawkwind
or the 13th Floor Elevators in the height of the Krautrock frenzy, or The
Birthday Party subdued to play a rendition of “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.”
Others have described the Louisville, KY quintet as a unique crossbreed
of Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Tangerine Dream and Marc Bolan, or Scott
Walker fronting Roxy Music.
Curious music fans need not speculate on
The Phantom Family Halo's sound, however. The band is currently touring
the U.S. in support of the album with the likes of Slint, Dead Meadow and
Entrance. - tour
