PR reports: On August 7, the soundtrack to
the new Ethan Hawke film “the Hottest State” will be released. The soundtrack
features sixteen songs, plus two score passages, all recorded exclusively
for the film. Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Jesse Harris wrote all the
music for the soundtrack and serves as the album’s co-executive producer
along with Hawke. Together they assembled a peerless group of artists to
record Harris’ songs: Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Cat Power,
Bright Eyes, Feist, The Black Keys, M. Ward, Brad Mehldau, Tony Scherr
and Argentinean newcomer, Rocha. Jesse Harris recorded three songs for
the soundtrack himself and also has a small role in the film. The soundtrack

PR reports: Independent record label Embedded
Music will release the self-titled debut album of hip-hop duo Iller Than
Theirs this fall. Brooklyn-based Iller Than Theirs is a mellow opposition
to the commoditization of hip-hop culture that has resulted in fake MC’s
peddling their own posturing while crazed billionaires buy up and tear
down the old neighborhoods. In a world that’s growing more convoluted,
complex, and corrupt, they’ve decided to respond with a simple, easygoing
honesty of lyricism, free of pretension and thug theatrics. “We’re not
saying that we’re better than anybody, alright? We’re not better than nobody.
We’re just Iller.”
Iller Than Theirs is made up of Tone Tank
and Krayo, artists from the Nuclear Family collective. Known as Nuk Fam
for short, these New York-based musicians pride themselves on their unique
humor and humility. Nuk Fam boasts artists Junk Science, who released their
debut Feeding Einstein in 2005, as well as Iller producers DJ Snafu, J.
Howells Werthman, and Scott Thorough. The album is set for release on September
18, on Embedded Music, and will feature guest appearances from Mastah Ace,
Cool Calm Pete, and varied Nuk Fam artists.- Sneak

PR reports: The past few months have been
nothing short of jam-packed for OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW (OCMS). The band
took a break from their hectic touring schedule and met up with established
photographer/director Danny Clinch in the Mid-City area of New Orleans
to shoot the video for their latest single, "I Hear Them All," an anthem
in the classic Woody Guthrie tradition.
The video features New Orleans local residents
who each had their own inspirational stories regarding Hurricane Katrina,
including George Porter Jr. of the legendary group The Meters, considered
by many to be the Father of Funk. Band member Ketch Secor (vocals/fiddle/harmonica)
commented: "Shooting this video in the Crescent City showed us first hand
the strength and dedication of all those hardworking people committed to
the rebuilding of New Orleans."

PR reports: The mail is rolling in! We're
ignoring the dozens of whining "your just jealous" emails from Claybots
as they will complain about any article that does less than canonize their
favorite karaoke singer. But some are right, a lot of people in the press
have blown this latest incident way out of proportion. But what else is
new? The price of fame. Anyway, Clay Aiken aside, we're sticking with more
relevant topics on the minds of our readers.
Tim writes us today about our coverage
of Moby's rant against the serving of meat at Live Earth. Here is what
he had to say: You guys can make fun of Moby all you want but the fact
remains that I learned far more about the problems with the environment
in the two minutes it took to read his message then I learned during the
entire 24 hour Live Earth nonsense. [point well taken, we take back our
suggestion about a Live Stock concert unless Moby agrees to rant for at
least 15 minutes of each hour. At least that WOULD be educational for the
viewers.]
Slashette sent us this angry missive about
the Velvet Revolver story from yesterday: Velvet Bomb? Almost any band
would kill to sell a hundred thousand cds in a week. How is that a bomb?
Idiots! I noticed you didn't even bother to review it either.[you are right.
Sorry. Congrats to Weiland, Slash and those other guys for selling less
than half of what their debut sold and being outsold by the daughter of
the guy that gave us "achy breaky heart". As for the review, an oversight
on our part as we tried to listen to it telepathically, since the band's
publicist didn't send us a copy, but it didn't work. We'll try harder next
time or call in Anthony Michael Hall to do it.] - Mailbag
