PR reports: Despite the seemingly blatant
relevance to the U.S.'s current military policies in the Middle East and
despite singer/guitarist Michael Davison's youth as an Army brat and his
own stint with the U.S. Marine Corp, the title of The Velocet's upcoming
full length Eyeball Records debut, "A Quick And Dirty Guide To War", isn't
about politics or involvement with the Armed Forces. It's about life in
New York City, alienation, indulgence, pitfalls, and persistence. Currently
based in the multifaceted societal mecca of Brooklyn, Davison is backed
by local heavy hitters Joe Propatier (the touring bassist for Damon Albarn),
Aron Watman (of the Brian Jonestown Massacre), and the Juliard trained
guitar stylings of Kris Ricat. With a crew like that it should come as
no surprise that The Velocet's art is a cut above the rest.
The record, a blast of precise and fervor-filled
post-punk-rock boasts both piercing hooks and bone-shaking aggression.
Surviving the melee of industry, competition, and chameleon culture in
America's most intense metropolis can be an undertaking; perhaps The Velocet's
forthcoming release is the perfect field guide. "A Quick And Dirty Guide
To War" drops on July 10th courtesy of Eyeball Records.-

the bassist Fábio Alves, members of the progressive metal band AKASHIC,
are working in a new project, this time far away from the metal scene.
They joined Oscar Dos Reis (bayan) and Léo Ferrarini (piano), and
will record a cd in July. It will be recorded in Akashic's home city, Caxias
do Sul, and will feature songs composed by Oscar Dos Reis and Ástor
Piazzolla, including "Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas" (The 4 Seasons
of Buenos Aires), a masterpiece of the Argentinian tango master.
A sample of their work was posted in Marcos

PR reports: Eagle Eye Media will release Jethro
Tull Live At Montreux 2003 on DVD and in a 2-CD package on August 21.
The British band, led by the enigmatic
singer/songwriter Ian Anderson, who plays flute, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin
and harmonica, has never been stronger. Martin Barre is the lead guitarist
who also plays flute. Doane Perry is a rock behind the drum set. Andrew
Giddings is the theatrically-minded dramatic keyboardist. Jonathan Noyce
provides the stable bass bottom. Collectively, they’ve been one of the
tightest, most well-respected internationally touring units on the longtime
Classic Rock scene. Their fans are rabid, a percentage of which travel
around the world and show up at gig after gig, and have formed a community
of Tullheads who make each show like a family reunion. No doubt that there
were plenty of them in the Montreux crowd that 2003 night!
As on the current tour, the show in Switzerland
was split into an acoustic set and an electric set.- full

singer Kurtis John.
The result is 12 cinematic, singular songs,
rife with ‘80s musical references and classic rock influences, but with
a modern resonance.- tour
