2&2:
Queers View of Modern Punk |
antiMusic reports: For this week's 2&2
we turn the reigns over to Russ the Punk from our sister site Thrashpit
for a couple excerpts from his recent conversation with Joe Queer of the
Queers where they discuss the current and future state of punk rock.
2&2: Where do you see punk music
ten years from now? *** Joe Queer: I don't know. More commercialized
bulls***, like Good Charlotte. I started this band to get laid, play great
music, and travel. I had to learn life's lessons. We never had the safety
net today's bands don't need. It was either punk rock or Burger King! I
respect bands like Green Day and Screeching Weasel because that was their
situation, they could either play punk rock or flip burgers for the rest
of their lives, and they went with punk. It used to take balls to be a
punk rocker. Now it's just a f**king fashion show. You don't need studs
or money or showy mohawks. That's one road I've never gone down before.
2&2: What kind of influence do you
suppose the more political punk rock bands, such as Anti-Flag and the Refused,
have? *** Joe Queer: Bands like that have the politics of a freshman
girl at college. I think it's a shtick to earn money. It's conceited to
talk down to an audience and tell them what their opinions should be. Ben
Weasel said it best: "Politics are boring." [check out the full interview

Police
Reunion |
[update]We featured a story
yesterday from Side-line which "confirmed" a Police reunion tour and an
appearance at the Grammy Awards. Sting's publicist has informed us that
this is incorrect. So if this actually does come off we'll let you know
but for the moment it doesn't look like The Police reunion is officially
in the works. This is rock n roll and that can change but for now please
disregard the previous story. -

Peta
Cause J.Lo Stink |
TMZ reports: J.Lo's auditions for her new
"Glow After Dark" reality show were derailed Friday night when two members
of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) took the stage, pretending
to audition, and launched into a tirade against the singer/actress.
TMZ obtained video of the confrontation,
secretly shot by PETA at the event, which was held at Macy's in Downey,
California. "J.Lo, fur ho!" screamed one of the ladies, who began by saying,
"I think the most important thing about being a diva...is not only being
sexy and being stylish, but is not wearing real f***ing fur!" [see full

Mogwai
Myspace Row |
Gigwise reports: Mogwais Stuart Braithwaite
has got into a beef with former Test Icicles member Rory Aggwelts new
band. The guitarist started the battle of words by leaving a message on
Rat: Att: Aggs myspace page slamming their authenticity as a band.
It read: "Guys, seriously what the f**k
is going on here? I keep hearing your song on MTV2 at night and i'm confused.
is it a JOKE? I know i'm getting old but am i missing something? Is there
an existential element that i don't get? I like the guitarists clothes
but the singer needs medical help. Is it a pastiche on bob the builder?
I think it is but the thought scares me." [you gotta click the full story

Big
Flag Mess |
News.co.au reports: MUSIC fans will be able
to take Australian flags into the Big Day Out festival despite an attempt
from organisers to lock out the "gang colours" they claim incited racial
hatred last year.
Prime Minister John Howard said today it
was "stupid and offensive" for Big Day Out promoter Ken West to attempt
to stop fans taking Australian flags to Thursday's concert at the Sydney
Showground. But BDO organisers insisted their plea to the expected crowd
of 60,000 not to bring flags was "simply a request, not a command".
"If people show up with a flag they will
not be refused entry if they have a valid ticket," a spokeswoman said.

Beatles
iTunes? |
FMQB reports: The music industry has been
waiting for The Beatles' camp to enter the 21st century with the Fab Four's
catalog, which is unavailable digitally. While the Beatles' Apple Corp.
has famously feuded in court on-and-off over the years with Apple Computers
(now Apple Inc.), last year it was rumored that the entire Beatles catalog
was being remastered for a re-release in 2007. Now the rumor mill is turning
again, with release dates being thrown around this time.
The Toronto Sun is reporting that the entire
remastered Beatles catalog could be in stores by this June, and that their
music could make its way onto the iTunes Music Store as early as February.
