New
Beatles Song |
earvolution.com reports: The Beatles have
been moving a lot of product with the release of Love just before the holiday
season. If the alternative versions of old songs did so well, there's bound
to be some significant hype for a brand new song from the fab four. Ok,
not entirely brand new, but new nonetheless.
Paul McCartney reportedly is thinking with
the idea of going back in the studio to add some harmonies to a John Lennon
lead vocal track of a song they wrote "all those years ago" (sorry, couldn't
help it). The tune "Now and Then" was apparently considered for release
in the 1990s, but George Harrison apparently wasn't happy with the song.[see

Police
Reunion |
punkbands reports: Though no official word
from the band has come, a recent story from The Mirror is reporting that
the Police may reunite this year for a tour to mark their 30th Anniversary.
This would be the first Police tour since the band broke up in Melbourne,
Australia in 1984. The band consists of pop-sensation Sting on bass and
vocals, Andy Summers on guitar and Stewart Copeland on drums.
The article goes on to state that "an official
announcement is expected later this month after UK dates are locked in,

The
OC Cancelled |
TMZ reports: After killing off their most
famous character, turning Summer into a hippie, and forcing Ryan to fight
just about everybody who looked at him the wrong way, the folks behind
"The OC" have finally thrown in the beach towel.
"This feels like the best time to bring
the show to its close," said Josh Schwartz, the show's creator and executive
producer. According to FOX, on February 22 the struggling series will ride
off into the California sunset one last time. [now emo nerds have something

Omarion
Tops Chart |
E! Online reports: Turning 21 might give him
more chances to be naughty, but Omarion still finished the year on Santa's
nice list.
In what was an otherwise slow week in the
post-Yule music world, Omarion scored his second straight chart-topping
bow as a solo artist. For the week ended New Year's Eve, the soulful singer
made it to number one with 21 selling 119,000 copies, according to Nielsen
SoundScan figures Wednesday. It was the week's only new album to make the
Top 10.[see full story for more]- Click

Smashing
07 Planned |
DiR reports: Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy
Corgan took to the band's MySpace page to update fans on what Smashing
happenings are planned for 2007. We'll let Billy fill you in, here is his
post:
Happy New Year to you! May 2007 prove to
be a blessed year in every respect and every way...I send you every ounce
of love I have in my heart...May the grace of Mother be with you...This
year for us will see a new album of songs and a world tour of tears, and
we truly look forward to playing again for fans young, old, and missed...So
yes, tunes are being dusted off, while others are being asked to kindly
submit to an upstart millennia and all it's asking...In our daily prayers,
we send out the signal that all who should hear us come forward and be
seen, and by extension, heard...when we opened the lid on this music box,
we were pleasantly suprised at the music that played: familiar yet unknown,
welcoming but not sentimental...and that is all we can ask...God has absolutely
blessed us in every respect...for many years there were private laments
about opportunities missed and hearts so broken, but no more...we have
turned the page and moved on, from places and faces, names and games...this
age calls for resolve and certitude, and the fire within to burn ever bright...if
that fire should be connected to absolutely deafening guitars, thundering
drums, and the melodies of snakes, then so be it! We love you! If you are
meant to be with us, find us!! We have need, and our arms are ever-open...although
I can say definitively we don't need jugglers...but we do need ???? (what?)
what do we need!- Click

Murder
One 'Near-Death' Drama |
blabbermouth.net reports: MURDER ONE has issued
the following update: "The future of MURDER ONE continued to be cursed
as vocalist Paul Catten recently ended up on a life-support machine after
routine surgery for his appendix went terribly wrong.
"Paul was taken into hospital for suspected
appendicitus shortly before Christmas. After 24 hours observation, it was
decided to carry out the normally routine surgery on the Sunday morning.
At 12:30 p.m. on the Sunday, Paul was given a full anaesthetic and immediately
suffered a severe allergic reaction, which resulted in a cardiac arrest.
Once resuscitated and his condition stabilized, the appendix was removed
and Paul was put into a drug-induced coma for 24 hours and kept on a life-support
machine for the duration. He eventually woke at 9:30 p.m. on the Monday.

Nocturne
Sellout |
TuneLab reports: After announcing last October
that Nocturne would no longer be continuing in the industrial/goth scene
(but purposely not naming the new genre), vocalist Lacey Conner has re-surfaced
solo performing "pop music with an edge, appealing to fans of Pink and
Gwen Stefani". [Was the sellout inspired by Gwen? see full story for a

RIP
DRM? |
computers.net reports: More rumors are surfacing
around Amazon offering DRM-free MP3s to compete with Apple's iTunes. Only
this time the rumors include other MP3 download services and are coming
from the mainstream press (does that make it more or less credible?). Looks
like certain key executives have converted to the idea that digital downloads
should be sold as unprotected MP3s.
The reasoning till now seems to have hinged
on the idea that DRM is causing the digital marketplace to grow (huh?).
But 2007 is projected to be a downer, or at best flat, in terms of revenue
from digital downloads and mobile content. If *gasp* DRM can't continue
to grow the digital marketplace (yeah, right, like it was ever the reason
in the first place), then more music executives may look at DRM as an enemy.
Not that it was ever really an ally, but let's let them pretend it was
so that their flawed logic will make it go away.[see full story for more
including details on which services may be offered DRM free]-

Legged Doggs |
KNAC reports: Judging by the band members
resumes, its understandable to assume that 3 Legged Dogg would reflect
old school 80s metal. After all, its members are veterans of such world
renowned metallic institutions as Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, Quiet Riot,
David Lee Roth, and Bonham. But upon hearing the quintets debut full length
for Perris Records, Frozen Summer, the famous saying You should never judge
a book by its cover comes into play... Formed out of a California collective
known as the Hollywood Allstarz, Vinnie Appice and Chas West are 3 Legged
Doggs' founding members, while Jimmy Bain, Carlos Cavazo, and Brian Young
signed on soon after. And according to Appice, the groups chemistry was
instant...The group plans to hopefully play their first-ever live gigs
sometime in 2007 which may prove tricky, since Appice has been enlisted
by Heaven and Hell (which includes Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, and Geezer
Butler) to tour for much of the year. The tour plans are on hold but we
intend to do a 3LD video in February with Perris Records, so we can have
exposure on the internet and TV. [see full story for more]-

NOFX
Mix It Up |
punkbands reports: It looks like punk icons
NOFX can once again be added to the list of bands giving the fans what
they want to hear at shows. On tour last year, the band played their classic
18-minute long epic, "The Decline", in it's entirety on almost every date.
Now, the band has announced that for the four Hollywood shows of their
upcoming tour, a different album will be played each night. The guys broke
it down as follows:
As some of you in the Los Angeles area
might know, we will be playing 4 nights at the Hollywood House of Blues.
We decided to make it not be boring (for us) and try to perform 75 different
songs over the 4 nights. [see full story for more]- Click

Mike
Myers Who |
FMQB reports: It may seem like an odd choice,
but Mike Myers has reportedly been tapped to portray Keith Moon in an upcoming
biopic. The film about the late Who drummer will be called See Me Feel
Me (Keith Moon Naked For Pleasure), and is due for release in 2009. Apparently,
Myers was the first choice of singer Roger Daltrey.[see full story for

U2
Comp a Joke |
FMQB reports: Bono has told the BBC that he
hopes that U2 will take their music to "the next level" on their forthcoming
studio album. The singer/activist recently sat down with BBC host Jo Wiley
for an hour-long interview special. Bono discussed the band's recent compilation,
U218 Singles, calling it "a joke, really, because weve never been much
of a singles band. But we did it because we have a very young audience
coming through, and we wanted to just be very available for people who
want to check us out, you know?[see full story for more including Bono's
