2&2:
Slayer |
antiMusic reports: Our very own Billy Gamble
caught up with Slayer as their roared through Rhode Island earlier this
month, fresh off their Grammy win. He spoke with Kerry King about their
outing with Unearth, the current state of metal, their Grammy win, Dave
Lombardo and why Slayer never followed metal trends. Here are a couple
questions from part one of the special interview.
antiMusic: Tell me about your thoughts
on the first ever Grammy Slayer won [earlier this month]. ** Kerry King:
I thought it was cool for my dad because yah know he's proud, but for me
the f**king Grammy's I think the vote process it's not tainted but it's
not correct because it's not by somebody by somebody who knows about every
kind of music they're voting for. I think there is probably 25, 40% of
people who actually have an idea of what metal is and I think they're 60,
75 percent of people who pass the category and say, "Metal, Slayer, heard
of them, cool." I'm glad they did it, yah know hey, it gives me something
cool to say "Yeah I won one of those." Not a lot of people in the world
can say that, from that aspect it's cool, but I'd rather have awards that
educated metal fans voted for.
antiMusic: Do you guys ever feel pressured
to change your sound to fit in with modern music? ** Kerry King: Not
at all [laughs] I just won a Grammy I don't got to do sh*t [laughs]. This
is what we like to do. We were very fortunate when we decided what we were
going to do 20 some years ago, we found something we dug and we didn't
have to change what we do to be popular. [see full story for the rest of

pulled away from a Hollywood party Friday night.
A rep for Blunt tells TMZ that, despite
reports to the contrary, the person run over "wasn't a fan" and says, "It
was a ton of paparazzi that were all swarming [James'] car as he was driving
two MPH trying to navigate his way through them... They were invading his
space. He was just trying to quietly leave the party." She adds that James
is "looking into the matter and will cooperate." [see the full story for

Warped
Backlash? |
punkbands reports: The most recent Warped
confirmations are the Briggs, Madina Lake, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster
and The Fold. Head honcho Kevin Lyman posted this message on the Warped
Tour site today:
It has been a very interesting Vans Warped
tour to book over 4000 submissions, in booking the tour this year I felt
that a diverse line-up was in order. The tour has always been a place to
explore and discover new music. This years line-up has old school, emo,
punk, screamo, hip-hop, more ska than you have seen in a long time and
everything in between. If open minded this will be a great show, if you're
not this might be the year to stay home and go do something constructive
with your lives instead of complaining about the line-up on the message
boards. - Click

Let's
Go Sailing With Elvis |
PR reports: In November of 2002, keyboardist
Shana Levy left LA indie pop staples, Irving, to pursue her own outfit
under the moniker Let's Go Sailing. With a little time and a little help
from her friends (such as Silversun Pickups' Nikki Moninger, Irving's Brent
Turner and Elvis Perkins), Let's Go Sailing fleshed out Shana's compositions
into bittersweet indie pop with sophisticated arrangements and heart-on-the-sleeve
vocals.
Let's Go Sailing has already gotten love
from tastemaker radio stations KCRW, Indie 103.1, KROQ as well as MTV's
"Real World," and is now ready to take the show on the road. This Spring
will see Shana and crew head out with much-buzzed about folk-rocker and
collaborator Elvis Perkins. [see full story for dates]-
