TMZ reports: TMZ has learned that the Beverly
Hills Police Department is investigating rocker Joel Madden, after a female
photographer filed a "crime report" claiming he attacked her during a violent
confrontation Sunday night.

punkbands reports: Knives Out is considering
taking legal action against platinum-selling pop punks Fall Out Boy. Nicholas
Hans alleges the band took a phrase and concept from a T-shirt he designed
and used it for lyrics on a track from the multi-platinum 2005 record "From
Under the Cork Tree."
In 2001, Hans' former band Knives Out,
toured the U.S. and sold a black T-shirt with a drawing of a hand with
a ribbon tied around the wrist and the phrase "Don't Open Till After X-Mas."
The line "The ribbon on my wrist says, 'Do not open before Christmas,'
" is part of Fall Out Boy's song "Our Lawyer Made Us Change the Name of
This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued" (which refers to an unrelated matter).
"They 100 percent ripped us off," Hans
told us yesterday. "It just pisses me off. They should have asked," says
the artist/musician. [see full story for more including how FOB kind of

Gigwise reports: Kaiser Chiefs' Ricky Wilson
has hit back at journalists who have slammed the band's new album calling
them "wrong" and "liars."
The band's second effort has received a
damning response from many quarters, with Gigwise labeling it "the sound

But Wilson is defiant in the face of adversity,
saying that the band believe they have made "a great record."
He told 6music: "I don't want to sound

TMZ reports: Mark Burnett, the man behind
the popular reality show "Rock Star," is being sued INXS of $2 million,
by a woman who claims he was part of an alleged conspiracy to steal her
idea for the reality show.
In the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, a writer/producer
named Sharlene Sullivan claims that in 2002, she registered a show synopsis
called "Rock Star" with the Writers Guild of America, in which "lead vocalists
for rock bands would compete and would be judged by well known musicians/rock
stars."
In the lawsuit, Sullivan claims she shared
the idea with several industry people connected with both Mark Burnett
and the rock band INXS. After receiving initial interest from those parties,
Sullivan claims she was told to "abandon the project" and "write an unrelated
treatment regarding transvestites." Soon after, the suit claims, Mark Burnett
claimed he created a reality show called "RockStar: INXS." Sullivan says
Burnett knew that it had already been created.- more

TMZ reports: Blues Traveler frontman John
Popper was arrested in Spokane, Wash. yesterday for speeding (111 mph,
no big deal) and marijuana possession (not exciting). But during the search,
officers found multiple hidden compartments in Popper's vehicle -- which
held a total of 14 weapons, including four rifles (one of which was a 50
caliber), nine handguns and a switchblade knife! Now we're talking!
Popper was arrested along with a friend,
Brian Gourgeois, who was driving Popper's car at the time. They will both
be charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of
drug paraphernalia.
The WSP also says that DEA agents seized
Popper's vehicle, and he could face federal charges of possessing a vehicle
with hidden compartments. Let's hope his harmonica playing goes over well
in the big house. [see the full story for Popper's excuse for having all

against three insurance companies that declined to cover the costs of the
cancellation.
Eminem had been slated to headline the

KNAC reports: David Lee Roth is sticking to
his statement that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame told him he was not allowed
to perform at the ceremony to induct Van Halen into the hall. But Joel
Peresman, the Hall's president and CEO, said in a Saturday e-mail to The
Los Angeles Times that Roth is telling only part of the story.
According to the Times, the Roth camp says
that the only offer they had received before Friday was an invitation to
perform "You Really Got Me" with Velvet Revolver. Roth balked in part because
that song, off Van Halen's first album, was originally recorded by the
Kinks and is not a "true" Van Halen song.
Roth wanted to sing "Jump," but with rehearsal
time limitations, and other logistics, it was not possible.[by no means

antiMusic reports: An "exclusive" Orange County
rehab is suing Courtney Love for $181,286. Beau Monde claim Love skipped
out on the bill for her 11 week stay at their Newport Beach facility in
2005.
The rehab filed suit in Orange County Superior
Court on March 1st. In the lawsuit they claim that Love only paid an initial
$10,000 but still owes over $181,000. "Although demanded multiple times
by plaintiff, orally and in writing, none of the balance stated has been
paid," the lawsuit said. Gigwise also reports: Whilst Beau Monde cited
client confidentiality in refusing to comment on the case filed in Orange
County Superior Court, a representative for Love said "this matter is in
the process of being resolved," claiming there was simply a conflict over
the size of the bill.
Rant: We don't usually stick up for Courtney
here in the Day in Rock but anyone not on serious drugs would have a problem
with a $180K rehab bill. Did they toss out the 12 Steps (which you can
get for free) for the empty pocket method? (After paying them off you won't
have enough money for drugs.)- more

gunsnroses.com reports: The song "Better"
has been receiving airplay across the country, but there is no official
single release. No one seems to know where the song came from or how it
got out. Did Guns N' Roses purposely leak the track? "Here's what I know,"
keyboardist Dizzy Reed explains to GunsNRoses.com. "We were doing a commercial
with Harley-Davidson. Harley was going to do a version using 'Paradise
City' and another version using 'Better.' Their Web site even had a version
up for like one day with 'Better,' but the version of 'Better' that they
had was an unfinished, unapproved demo. That's why it was removed. The
version that's getting airplay is that same demo.
"Our understanding of how that happened
is that an experimental edit using 'Better' in place of 'Paradise City'
was somehow accidentally mislabeled as the 'Paradise City' Harley-Davidson
video/commercial and was inadvertently released on the internet. We believe
the 'leak' came from this source tape and someone with access to it
.
For the record, absolutely none of the
songs that have been leaked have come from the band or our organization.
None of the songs that have been leaked are anything more than demo versions,
works in progress. No final mixes.- more

TMZ reports: Kid Rock has struck back against
a woman who claimed he threw her into a snowbank -- with a lawsuit.
TMZ obtained the lawsuit filed by Rock's
attorneys against Kelly Ann Kozlowski, the woman who last week accused
Kid of assaulting her. The musician is seeking undisclosed monetary damages
for invasion of privacy, defamation, and for trespassing the Rock residence.
In a police report, Kozlowski had claimed
that Kid (whose real name is Robert Ritchie) grabbed her by the neck and
threw her into a snowbank, charges that Rock denied -- and that were ultimately
unsubstantiated. According to the Rock lawsuit, after meeting the rap-rocker
at a local bar, Kozlowski and her boyfriend tagged along to listen to some
tracks Rock had recently recorded, but "began placing drinks on [Rock's]
recording equipment and was otherwise acting improperly." -

Hecklerspray reports: Elton John is a man
who knows all about persecution; not only is Elton John gay but he's a
middle-aged tubby bald gay with gap teeth, bad eyesight, a ginger wig,
a voice like a dying walrus and the world's oddest sense of style - so
Elton John knows.
But for now let's just concentrate on the
gay thing. Elton John turns 60 this weekend and, instead of marking the
occasion by dressing up as a big duck and going to a poncey rah-rah party
with a bunch of sycophantic tossers, he's decided to do something useful
and speak out against all the anti-gay bigots in the world in an article
for the New Statesman.
By penning such an important and potentially
inflammatory article that'll be felt around the world, Elton John will
be drawing attention to a cause that many millions of people feel strongly
about. And also drawing attention to the fact that Elton John's back catalogue
will be available to download from iTunes for the first time on Monday
a bit too. But that's probably just a coincidence.-

Blabbermouth reports: "The Classic Metal Show"
recently interviewed legendary JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing about
a number of topics, one which was the proposed raise of royalty rates by
the RIAA that would, in essence, put Internet radio out of business. Downing
stated that he found the proposed royalty rates to be "just ridiculous,"
and admitted that he's never received a check from the RIAA for royalties
allegedly collected in his name by the organization. An excerpt from the
conversation follows:
The Classic Metal Show: The Record Industry
Association of America. They're going after Internet radio stations to
pay a very high royalty rate in order to broadcast copyrighted music. Basically,
just to give you the gist of it, in a year's time at the royalty rate they
are asking, an Internet radio station that, say, serves 1,000 listeners
365 days a year, the royalty rate that they would have to pay in order
to stay in business would equate to about $200,000 a year.
K.K. Downing: Well, that's just ridiculous.
That just doesn't stack up, as you say. That just doesn't equate. What's
the equation? Who put that together? That's obviously silly. -

TMZ reports: Velvet Revolver frontman Scott
Weiland and his wife trashed a Burbank hotel room during a rockstar-caliber
rampage last weekend, and now the hotel is pressing charges against the
Weilands for the damage they caused.
Sources tell TMZ that Weiland and his wife
Mary ripped alarm clocks and phones from their sockets and threw them,
made "dents and gauges" in the walls, and that there was even blood found
on some of the linens afterward. (A picture taken at the scene shows a
note attached to a trash bag that says, in Spanish, "with blood.")
The trouble started when Mary arrived at
the hotel Saturday, whereupon the couple got into "a huge argument" witnessed
by their two young children, who had to be taken away by Weiland's assistant.
Weiland himself then left, leaving behind Mary, who could be heard throwing
things in the room. The police were called, and the hotel is pressing charges
for the damage caused. There's no word whether either Weiland or his wife
were injured in the spat.- more

Not content to leave the commentary there,
Okereke also reportedly mocked the Oasis brothers' oft attempts to link

punkbands reports: In a turn of events perhaps
even more odd than the incident itself, Mtv is reporting that Anthony Lovato,
the former frontman for Mest, is getting off and won't face murder charges.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County
District Attorney's office told the network "We determined that the suspect
and victim had dated the same girl back-and-forth for over a year. There
had been threats, and the victim sent several threatening messages to the
suspect. Apparently, there was some mutual combat and Lovato attempted
to separate himself from the victim when the victim challenged him to a
fight.
The victim followed Lovato to an isolated
spot in the underground garage and tried to fight him. Lovato defended
himself, and there was insufficient evidence to show that it was not a
justifiable use of reasonable force in self-defense."-
