antiMusic reports: Acclaimed metalers Dillinger Escape Plan have just released with their brand new album 'Ire Works'. To celebrate the release and to gain a bit more insight into the songs we asked bassist Liam Wilson to pick his five favorite tracks from the CD and tell us a bit about each. Here is Liam with today's song: 82588 - This is the first of the more aggressive songs we started working on; there were other pieces of things, some of the songs with heavier electronics were jin-jangling around on Ben's bevy of hard drives, but this one was the first thing we started jamming on as a full band in late '05/early '06. It took us almost that whole time to settle on what, or maybe how that middle spaghetti-western/narrative section would end up. Ultimately, I think the studio magic and the wide range of gear we had at our disposal finally settled our scatterbrains about it. This was also one of the last songs we tracked drums for. The long stab pattern that starts at about 1:20 into the song is basically just a Latin rhythm that we sped up and twisted beyond recognition...I think a lot of listeners, from their point of view just think that stuff is at worst, random, or otherwise over-thought, but it all seems relatively normal or perhaps crafty from ours. Hear is believing so you can check out songs from the CD, tour dates, info on the band and more

AFP reports: Led Zeppelin could get together again for more projects after next week's long-awaited reunion gig, members of the iconic British rock band hinted in newly-published comments. Guitarist Jimmy Page recounted his excitement when they first played together in preparation for their reunion next Monday, and warned that the group should not wait too long or they will "need Zimmer frames." "I would like to keep this moving," he told Q music magazine's January edition, when asked if he would like to record some new material after the "one-off" concert at London's O2 Arena on Monday, December 10th. "I must say that after our initial get-together it was so exhilarating and fun that I did feel I would like to do more," he added. Bassist John Paul Jones added: "I guess the door has been left slightly ajar. We'll have to see how we feel about it afterwards. Everybody's got to really want to do it." [Before the link for more on this story we have an update to yesterday's story: The organizers of the Bonnaroo Festival have denied that Led Zeppelin and Metallica will headline the 2008 summer event.]

antiMusic reports: Morrissey has issued a rather detailed statement via fansite True To You.net about the recent NME article that insinuated his was racist because of comments he made in an interview over his concern over immigration and it's impact on the UK and the loss of British culture (which incidentally was published before the latest immigrant riots in neighboring France). The UK music pub refused to apologize or retract the story and as a result Moz filed a lawsuit against them. Here is some of what he had to say in his statement (a link to the full text follows): On Friday of last week I issued writs against the NME (New Musical Express) and its editor Conor McNicholas as I believe they have deliberately tried to characterise me as a racist in a recent interview I gave them in order to boost their dwindling circulation. I abhor racism and oppression or cruelty of any kind and will not let this pass without being absolutely clear and emphatic with regard to what my position is. Racism is beyond common sense and I believe it has no place in our society. To anyone who has shown or felt any interest in my music in recent times, you know my feelings on the subject and I am writing this to apologize unreservedly for granting an interview to the NME. I had no reason whatsoever to assume that they could be anything other than devious, truculent and unreliable. In the event, they have proven to be all three.

Contact Music reports: British goth rock supergroup BAUHAUS are to split for good after releasing one final album in 2008. The Bela Lugosi's Dead hitmakers reunited to perform at California's Coachella Festival in 2005, but a recent "incident" has prompted the bandmates to go their separate ways. So, after releasing their new album Going Away White in March (08), the group will part for good. Drummer Kevin Haskins tells Billboard.com, "We were getting along really well, but there was an incident that occurred (and) some of us just felt that we didn't want to carry on as a working unit." Haskins, who refused to elaborate on the incident, admits he knew the reunion would be strained

Rockdirt reports: In response to Neurosonic singer Jason Darr claiming during a recent concert that a cease and desist order came from Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz due to the band's song 'So Many People', critical of Wentz's girlfriend Ashlee Simpson, Darr has released the following statement: Anyone silly enough to believe I was serious about the comment I made at my [Neurosonic] NYC Knitting Factory performance has no sense of humor. Before we played our song, 'So Many People' I joked that Pete Wentz had taken out a cease and desist for the song because my lyrics are all about Ashlee Simpson's 'Saturday Night Live' debacle as well as celebrity culture. The song is not new... I wrote it 3 years ago... I wrote the music and had the initial lyrics right after the 'Saturday Night Live' debacle in October 2004, and completed the song right after Ashlee was given the Billboard award [December 2004]. 'So Many People' is on our album 'Drama Queen', which was released by our label Bodog Music in January 2007.

Contact Music reports: Janet Jackson has refused to join her siblings in a Jackson Family world tour - because she is reportedly trying to distance herself from her "freaky" brother Michael. The King of Pop and his siblings are planning an international tour with stops in 40 different cities - but their youngest sister is reluctant to join in the reunion as she doesn't want to be linked to the troubled singer and his legal woes, according to New York gossip column Page Six. A source tells the website, "Janet said she would be willing to participate in a few select shows next year, but (her fiance) Jermaine Dupri is holding her out of it. "He wants Janet to go back in the studio and record another album, and he's also wary of having her be associated with Michael because he's gotten such bad press and is just freaky."

Punknews.org reports: In a baffling but not entirely surprising move, Universal has decided to require all of their artists to provide only 90 clips of music on their myspace pages. The news comes from Wired Magazine which cited an email from Universal artist Colbie Caillat: "Due to circumstances beyond my control I have to swap the songs out on my page for 90 second versions instead of full length versions. In fact some of the songs have already been swapped as I write this. Every artist signed to a Universal label has to comply immediately." The story reports that some artists were required to do this a few months ago, but it is apparently trickling through their entire base. It's unclear how the removal of low quality streams will increase CD sales, particularly since it provides some incentive for more morally-questionable methods of hearing music.

Punknews.org reports: In yet another effort to punish everyone for the sins of a few, The Songwriters Association of Canada is pushing forward with a proposal to charge Canadian Internet and wireless users $5 per month to compensate for losses due to file sharing. The group explains: We propose an amendment to the Copyright Act which would establish a new right: The Right to Equitable Remuneration for Music File Sharing. In addition, it would represent excellent value to the consumer, since this fee would grant access to the majority of the world's repertoire of music, Since the license fee would be paid by all internet and wireless accounts, the amount of income generated annually could adequately compensate the industry for years of declining sales and lost revenues, and would dramatically enhance current legal digital music income.
