antiMusic reports: This week we have a real
treat for you. One of the best songwriting bands of this generation, Collective
Soul, is releasing their new album 'Afterwords' this week and we asked
lead guitarist Joel Kosche to select his five favorite tracks from the
CD and tell us a little bit about each one. (Ed checks in on a few tracks
too!). Today Joel and Ed tell us a little about the song "Georgia Girl":
He says of the track, "Another song that sort of transformed in the studio.
I had a hard time coming up with a guitar solo for that song. I guess I
was over thinking it or something because nothing was really working. It's
strange, sometimes the hardest part is finding that perfect first note
to play. Ed gave me the first three and from there it turned into one of
my favorite solos yet."
And here is Ed's take on the song: " "I
just sat down one day and wrote it. It's basically a true story about a
wonderful girl who helped me through a hard time. That may be the hardest
kind of song for me to write - a story that people can follow. That's the
greatness of someone like Springsteen. He can write you a story. I really
wanted to challenge myself to do something like that."
You can pick up 'Afterwords' at Target
stores and iTunes now, plus see them on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno
on Friday (August 31). You can preview the entire CD-

antiMusic reports: The world has lost another
music icon. Hilly Kristal the founder of CBGB has passed. Here is the official
press statement that was sent out. It is with deep sadness and regret that
we inform you of the death of Hilly Kristal, who died on Tuesday, August
28, 2007 from complications from Lung Cancer.
Kristal, 75, founded the legendary rock
club CBGB and ran the club for 33 years. A singer and songwriter himself,
Kristal opened the club to showcase "Country Bluegrass and Blues"; instead
the club became a breeding ground for Punk
rock. Among the many acts that called
CBGB home were Blondie, the Talking Heads, Television, Living Color, Patti
Smith and the Ramones. The club closed in October 2006, but CBGB continues,
with a retail store in New York City and worldwide merchandise sales; in
addition, there currently are plans to open new CBGB clubs in several locations.-

antiMusic reports: There is a river of mascara
stained tears in the UK this week as emo fans have their panties in a wad
over a metal band's win at a awards ceremony for a teen music magazine.
The emo girls are upset too. Metal band Machine Head pulled out a win for
Best Album as last Thursday's Kerrang! Awards and emo fans are throwing
a tizzy fit that they beat out their pin-up boy favorites. Machine Head's
camp issued this statement on their website about the controversy: Machine
Head's 'Best Album' win at last Thursday's Kerrang! Awards over pop-rock
powerhouses My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy has apparently cut deep
with fans of both bands, prompting a flood of angry whining and sad-faced
emoticons on the Kerrang! message boards.
Machine Head's upset victory over the multi-platinum
softcore acts sent their inherently sensitive fans into an emotional frenzy,
building into a tizzy of unparalleled proportions. Wrought with dismay,
polished fingernails the world over lashed out at the band and metal as
a whole with diatribes the likes of "MCR really should have won!!! I'm
mad now!!!!," "what a load of sh*t, who the f*ck listens to them?" and
"Stupid Machine Head!!," at times stooping so low as to say the competition
was fixed, and often gravely endangering the integrity of their carefully
sideswept hair with posts like "I H8 METAL, I H8 METAL, I H8 METAL, I H8

antiMusic reports: It looks like Nikki Sixx's
idea of promoting his new project by focusing only on the corporate and
tabloid media instead of where a few fans might still remain didn't work
out like he and his handlers had planned as the Motley Thru bassplayer's
new solo effort Sixx:A.M.'s 'The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack' had dismal
first week sales of just 11,000 copies according to TuneLab.
Adema's attempt at a comeback hit a brick
wall as well when their new effort "Kill the Headlights" only managed to
attract 2,000 fans. The one good news for rock this week is that As I Lay
Dying made a record debut on the charts with sales of almost 40,000 copies
of their new effort "An Ocean Between Us" landing them at No 8 on the Billboard
200 (more on that later in today's report).
Unlike Adema and Nikki Sixx, Nickelback,
Linkin Park, Maroon 5 and Korn still have a healthy fanbase out there purchasing
their albums well after their release.- more

AP reports: Investigators said a chunky textured
substance seized from the bedroom of rapper DMX was not an illegal drug.
"We're still looking at what type of powder
that is," Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Tuesday. "But we did seize a useable
quantity of marijuana. He does have a drug situation there."
Sheriff's deputies found three dead dogs,
guns, ammunition and drug paraphernalia at his Cave Creek residence Friday.

Gigwise reports: Rolling Stones guitarist
Keith Richards has demanded that a Swedish newspaper apologise for a recent
review of one of their gigs. A journalist for the Aftonbladet newspaper
gave the band's show in Gothenburg on August 3rd two out of five stars,
saying that Richards was "superdrunk" and "a bit confused" onstage during
the performance.
After being shown translated versions of
the review, Richard's has hit back angrily in a letter to the newspaper.
He said: "This is a first! Never before have I risen to the bait of a bad
review. But this time...I have to stand up...for our fans all over Sweden
... to say that you owe them, and us, an apology."
Despite Richards' demand for an apology,
Markus Larsson, the journalist who wrote the review, has stood by his comments,
reports yahoomusic. "I am not going to apologize for my subjective opinion,"
explained Larsson. "It is Keith who should apologize. After all it costs
around 1,000 kronor (US$145) to see a rock star who can hardly handle the
(guitar) riff to 'Brown Sugar' any more."- more

PR reports: John Fogerty reclaims his rightful
place among America's most iconic and revered artists with the forthcoming
Revival, due October 2nd. Fogerty's contribution to popular culture cannot
be overstated; his songs have become part of rock's DNA, the very building
blocks upon which much of American rock and roll has been built. As the
album title tantalizingly suggests, Revival represents a renewed musical
spirit and heart from Fogerty that incorporates all the best elements of
a career that has resonated deeply with generations of music fans and the
thousands of artists that he has influenced.
"It just seemed like all the records I
have made since Creedence Clearwater Revival have all been sort of pushed
off center," he says. "I felt like I was dancing around the outskirts of
what is my true center. With this album, I really wanted to stay on the
mark, right in the middle, right where rock 'n' roll is. I wanted this
one to be easier, a lot more fun than some of the past records have been."-
