Emo Suicides
News.co.au reports: In the aftermath of the deaths of teenagers Jodie Gater and Stephanie Gestier, psychologists have urged the community to avoid simplistic conclusions.

For sometimes there are no conclusions to be had. Suicide can be provoked by one brief and terrible moment or an overwhelming succession of terrible events; in the absence of a note, pinpointing a cause may be impossible.

Commentators have referred to Jodie and Stephanie's cyber activities and their love of emo music. Some ill-informed, poorly researched and deliberately stupid TV and radio types have blamed a contemporary rock sub-genre for the girls' decision to end their lives. Maiden Knight?
BW&BK reports: Fans of the greasy 1980s heavy metal band Iron Maiden have petitioned the Downing Street website. They're demanding the group's heavily tattooed bass guitarist Steve Harris be recognised in the next list of honours.

"Iron Maiden are often the band that encourage youngsters into rock music; one of the pleasures of a Maiden gig is the healthy mix of young and old," it reads. "Steve Harris, as a very fit, relatively moderate drinker, is a great role model for the younger fans that his band continuously attracts."

At the very least, Harris's followers are demanding he is made an MBE. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Congress Enters Net Radio Royalty Battle
FMQB reports: Congress has gotten involved in the ongoing fight to raise royalty rates for Internet broadcasters. Congressmen Jay Inslee (D-WA) and Don Manzullo (R-IL) have introduced the Internet Radio Equality Act, in an attempt to stop the Copyright Royalty Board's decision to increase the rates. The legislation is said to "modernize" the copyright rules, putting royalties paid by public broadcasters of "sound recordings" under the same system as "musical works."

Organizations who have been fighting the CRB decision have reacted favorably to the bill. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
